This is a GREAT symphony!!!

According to Wikipedia, the music for "Ein Traumspiel" was written in 1941-42, and after 1942 Syberg stopped composing altogether (the reason for this is not given).

Dass Baußnerns Symphonien weder gedruckt, noch auf CD eingespielt sind, ist eine der schmerzlichsten Lücken im musikalischen Repertoire. Vielen Dank für diese historische Aufnahme!

Boeiend om dit totaal onbekende concerto te mogen ontdekken. Ten treure schrijf ik: hoeveel goede Vlaams-Belgische muziek ligt onder het stof begraven en blijft onontsloten. En zeker hoeveel goede solisten hadden en hebben we niet die destijds vooral eigen componisten speelden. Robertt Groslot, ooit laureaat van de Elisabethwedstrijd!

Fu Pfitzner un compositore di ampio respiro un po' tetro serio ma molto originale affondava la sua cultura musicale nella grande scuola tedesca, ovviamente, di cui era grandissimo conoscitore e ottimo interprete ma voleva pur essendo tardo romantico essere un classicista....particolare a volte tentato dalla modernità da armonie complesse e sofisticate fino portare il sistema cromatico a conseguenze più aspre.Resta un grande compositore un poco scostato da tutti.

Der Komponist ist extra zur den Aufnahmearbeiten nach Bamberg gefahren um bei der Aufnahme Tipps zu geben. Die Aufnahme ist vom 26.7.1975. Ich hatte das Glück, den Komponisten noch selbst persönlich kennenlernen zu dürfen, in seiner Wohnung in Heidelberg "Am Werderplatz 10". Eine eindrucksvolle Persönlichkeit!

Souris is one of the most neglected of 20th century composers. His music was wonderful and he was a fascinating person.

The date of this performance is July 10, 1962. It's a fine, idiomatic one, too.

Very musical and about music. Not a remaking of music from scratch but so what?

Delighted to be able to hear this music. Just came across it in an Australian review. The Bulletin (19 June 1965) carried a review by David Salter of a youth concert with the Sydney Symphony under Joseph Post. Orchestral parts for Richard Mohaupt's "Townpiper Music"[Stadtpfeifermusik] did not arrive in time for rehearsal and “Irkanda IV, a shorter work by the Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe, was hastily substituted. Three instrumental dances from de Falla’s “Three Cornered Hat” were added to draw the concert out to an acceptable length. After an appropriately swaggering “Rienzi” Overture the orchestra settled down to the task of accompanying Jorge Bolet in the Schumann Piano Concerto.

Where to find sheet music

A bit like Mahler. Wonderful sense of voicings of the orchestra. Lots of polyphony. The emotional content seems to be one of a questing spirit.
