I saw this when we pulled into Kure 2009. Amazing scale and detail. I was told that when they launched the Yamato here in Kure shipyard, they flooded the town. They also have other WW2 hardware in the adjacent room (Zero, etc).

Seven of the ten US fast battleships still exist as museum ships. Four Essex class carriers who had a hand in the sinking of Yamato and Musashi are also museums.

I suppose this is at Kure because it's where Yamato and her sister Musashi were built. The model looks like a builders model. I remember a similar Iowa class model in the Admin building while going through bootcamp in San Diego in the 70s.

I'll just bet that not one in a hundred of those people basking in japan's "wartime greatness" was aware of the vicious cruelty of her military.

Interesting they would have this display when true History is not taught in Schools! When My Chinese Wife and I visited many Cities in Japan a couple years ago, I learned that Student are not taught THEY were the aggressors and only learn the truth when they study abroad . Saying that, We had a wonderful time there and experienced no animosity whatsoever. We will go back another time.

That was a formidable ship that fortunately was never used as it might have been. Her and her sister ship were just pounded to smithereens by the American Carrier planes. Oh well, I'm sure it was for the best...

A 1/10 scale model of the Yamato!! Who makes that? Tamiya, Hasegawa? Imagine trying to get that unassembled kit home - and then storing it!! 🤣👍 Great clip, especially showing the Zero (i didnt know it had 2 different wing mounted guns) and the line-up of gun projectiles. Love the models, they're superb!! (Again, all by Tamiya or Hasegawa? 🤣)

Incredible. Some part of me regrets that such a great ship could not have survived the war somehow and been preserved as a museum. I know it is impossible, but I can always dream. If I go back to Japan and am in the area, I really want to see this museum.
