I’ve learned over the years to always stand on the lid before flushing! After having one blow up in my face you don’t make that mistake twice! When that flapper gets stuck or the gasket goes bad that 175psi of compressed air the is supposed to blow the waste out will blow it right back into your face with incredible force!

His best tip was right at the end. "If you do make a mistake med mooring, don't hesitate to bail out." Our instructor also taught us this. "Never try and recover from a failed med mooring. Go out, regroup and try again."

Indeed, preparation is a absolutely critical! Another important thing is to avoid crossed anchors which happened very often in the Med’s crowded harbors and particularly Greece.
