Nice XS11! Love these old 1100s. A small bit of advice, the XS1100 CV cards will do much better and help eliminate the low end stubble with adding some velocity stacks. The stock ones inside the stock airbox work amazingly well.
I’ll be trying that soon. I also smoothed out the timing table in those areas.
You cannot ride without tunjng the carbs for how much air they getting now. Without an airbox you suck in a LOT of air. The fuel is not compensate for that.
@@BikeWorkz1991 I would agree except for the fact that it’s always rich.
After such a short distance, the spark plugs should be just about clean like they came out of the box, with just a hint of tan beginning to form on the porcelain. My Virago sounded similar when the plugs became too fouled. The plugs were completely black after 5 miles, and the the missing set in. Turned out it was failed O-rings that are not listed in any parts diagram, and not available as spare parts. When they fail, instead of mixing air into the needle jet, you get fuel. I am pretty sure the carbs on your XS1100 are designed differently, but if the main jet is bolted into a plastic pipe and the carb piston runs in a plastic guide, that could be the issue. However, it is more likely to you have an issue with float level or carb clogging or fuel supply or something else regarding the carbs. For instance, you will never be able to get CV carbs to work well without the airbox. You can get the engine to run OK eventually, but you will never get nearly as much horsepower as you will with the stock setup. Cycle World magazine did extensive testing on a GS1100, as did German magazine MOTORRAD, using dyno and CO2 emission testing, and there just was no was to get proper operation under all conditions. Inline fuel filters can also play havoc with fuel flow. But do not rule out a spark issue. A strobe timing lamp will only flicker if you have a spark going on inside the cylinder. If it breaks down or is erratic, you either have a defect spark plug or no energy reaching the spark plug.
The airbox thing is Just not true. You can get it running as good if not better if you tune it right
seems like timings off, might be hydrolocking the cylinder from not firing then it fires and fouls the plug slightly, that noise might be fuel igniting in the exhaust
I'm loving seeing all these new creators coming on the scene and bringing us classic machinery. I subbed to your channel. Have a Merry Christmas and keep on cranking out bangers.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Merry Christmas.
Yeah, tuning the carbs would do you wonders, but i'm also wondering if your timing is advancing because its backfiring hard... Try setting your timing to a fixed angle and reving it with a ziming light hooked up to see if it stays put with rpm increase ...
On fixed timing it doesn’t waver and the timing is correct within a couple degrees.
Mine used to foul plugs all the time. Try cleaning the needle and seats and checking the float height is correct.
I rebuilt the carbs with new idle needles and visually the seats were clean, maybe I’ll give them another cleaning.
Carburetors!!!!
I was just out there yesterday with my T7. I contemplated doing the trail you did in this video, but the ruts were filled with a lot of water so i decided to pass haha. Are you local to tahuya or just the surrounding area? We should ride sometime, id say our skill levels are similar
@@DocOn2Wheels21 surrounding area, it was about an hour ride for me. I’d love to ride with more people! You can message me on instagram.
@toyoboi is your insta handle the same as your youtube?
@@toyoboi sent you a message. Let's get out there and ride!
I was going to give my two cents about "standing up more" and keeping momentum. But I kept watching and to be fair to you, that's ADV bike hell bro. It's wildly rutted out and I probably wouldn't be going much faster, regardless of experience.
Yeah, the couple times I tried keeping up more momentum I almost go over the bars when I hit the bottom of the rut. Thanks for watching!
Fun trails, but hell it feels terrible sometimes when you dont know where you gonna end up at lol
Why didn’t you ride the single track? You were in the 4x4 section.
@@ChristopherLeback-hz8lg figured the single track would be too difficult and meant to stay in the easier 4x4 stuff. I was fine until I got to the deep pot holes.
awesome video! looks like a really fun place to ride(except for those crazy 4x4 trails) can only imagine how slick it can get when its real wet.
It was a blast even on the 4x4 trails until I got to the section with the dips lol.
@@toyoboi yeah that looked tough. Good job powering through it.
you put up a good fight, so did the t7 LOL. Ill subscribe just for what ya went through there. Good stuff. Shower must've been refreshing. what audio recorder did you get?
@@The_MotoRebel I got a zoom h1e for audio recording. I have another video I’m editing where it’s even more of a struggle so be sure to check that one out once it’s posted
Good thing you are a young buck!!! Think you got off of the T7.....
Keep at it man! You're definitely still learning to control a big bike off road. I've had my T7 on most of the trails out there. There's something very satisfying about riding trails on an adv bike. A lot of the jeep trails in Tahuya out by Belfair are a bit more big bike friendly. If you're wanting to get more comfortable and build these sort of skills, try spending some time out there.
Thanks for the kind words! Any specific trail you’d recommend?
@@toyoboi I would suggest accessing the trails at the entrance across the street from Elfendahl staging area. There's several directions you can go from there. Most of it is pretty manageable on two wheels. Wear some waterproof boots and pants, though lol
"This is a horrible idea" is the opening line to every great story!
A former Olympia low life now residing in Texas. I sure do miss riding Rock candy, middle Waddell, sheltucky and Tahuya. Looks like their doing a lot of clear cutting up there. Not much Capital forest left.
Love the colour aesthetic of the video. If you want to make it more cinematic and make the footage look faster. Get a wide angle lens mod for your GoPro and make the recording frame-rate 24fps That’s only if you want to
@@DylanSpam-sl8pn this is the widest setting on a standard hero 10. I’ve considered getting lenses but instead I think I’m going to get an ace pro. This is 24 fps, motion blur isn’t quite as good as it could be. I f I set the exposure to 48 it would be amazing but then I’d need an nd filter which would require me changing the nd filter for changing lighting conditions. In a couple of my previous videos I set the exposure to 48 and in the shady parts the video looks amazing. But any time there was sunlight I had to cut it out because of how washed out they were. I keep the exposure set to auto since I go in and out of shadows so often. Thank you for the tips! And thank you for the compliment!
@@toyoboi haha the constant battle! I’ll have to go check that out with the ND! I’ve also battled getting my footage to look faster I’m one of the Toyota Rally videographers here in RSA it never translates the speed of these cars properly! Unless I sacrifice the damn GoPros by the wheels or bumper. But your bike, I was told by the Rally team here to check out that Yami and wow I’m hooked (a lot of the team here are Dakar drivers as well)
Sometimes the best videos are just the sound of the engine on a road through the woods.
I’m planning on getting a better audio recording set up for videos like this, along with a different exhaust.
So beautiful over there! I can certainly empathize with letting your brain get the best of you when out there alone. Work up to it like you said and you'll be good. Nice ride and video, thank you for sharing!
The first year I went wild camping, there was no problem UNTIL I was woken up in the middle of the night, by a big wild boar sniffing my luggage in my open shelter - THEN I felt like you with all the noises. Every time there was a sound close by, the flashlight would be switched on - Now I know most sounds are birds and mice and I sleep tight !
All the abandoned vehicles 😮
Dude, the drive back in the dark was so much more dangerous than the noises at night. Those fears are your primitive limbic part of you brain playing tricks on you. Go out again right away, sleep with some bear spray and a big buck knife if you must. Make yourself get used to it. It gets easier and soon you will come to love the noises at night. 👍
Lol, if you're scared of the noises, maybe you shouldn't solo camp. Or play music or podcasts on your phone to drown out the other sounds. Nothing is going to get you dude, that was a great spot and you should have stuck with it.
It was a great spot and luckily it’s not going anywhere so I’ll be going back for sure. Logical adult brain knows I’m perfectly safe but unfortunately that’s not the part of my brain that’s in charge of whether I sleep or not.
It's trippy man after the sun goes down lol. Especially in the woods.
I’d really like to know about your nav device please
Just my phone on a quad lock mount using the Gaia app
