Some people don’t get it - it’s a deeply felt song about the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Matthews has performed the rock jam version many times in concert, with wailing guitar leads portraying the final battles & horrendous killing. Here he shows even more how he understands the quiet parts, which happen in the course of a war, & abruptly end when fighting is resumed. The story ends in the death of a civilization. Neil has also performed soft, acoustic versions, using his voice & harmonica to convey the pathos. Both he & Dave show us their deep empathy. Someone needs to tell him Nowhere is definitively a good song. Haha That was great! I’m sure he has written them, but I can’t imagine Josh writing a bad song. He’s one of those rare artists where everything they release never dips below a certain high-level of quality.

There's a version Dave Matthews did in NY with Warren Haynes and it's 10x better. This sounds like they practiced this for the first time just before going on stage.
