Talk by Rahul Chajwa, Stanford University, Stanford, USA of America at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA) Abstract Global carbon-cycle on our planet ties together the living and the non-living world, coupling ecosystem function to our climate. Gravity driven downward flux of carbon in our oceans in the form of marine snow, commonly referred to as biological pum...
HOW DO SOCIAL ANIMALS USE VOCAL COMMUNICATION TO COORDINATE GROUP BEHAVIORS?
มุมมอง 2956 หลายเดือนก่อน
Talk by Ariana Strandburg-Peshkin, University of Konstanz, Konstanz, Germany at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA) Abstract Sociality is widespread in nature, but group living requires coordination. From achieving consensus about where to move, to banding together against common enemies, coordinated action requires communication to solve a range of tasks. In ma...
SIGNAL-DEPENDENT REGULATION OF NF-KB ACTIVITY
มุมมอง 1216 หลายเดือนก่อน
Talk by Dimitris Thanos, Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens, Athens, Greece at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA). Abstract The NF-κB family of transcription factors functions as the central hub integrating and interpreting a wide range of signals. NF-κB is normally inactive in cells and is bound to specific inhibitor proteins (IkBs) in the cytopl...

มุมมอง 316 หลายเดือนก่อน
Talk by Duhan Toparlak, University of Oxford, Oxford, UK at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA) Abstract Chemists have long sought to observe and control the motion of molecules at the nanoscale. To this end, recent years have witnessed the maturation of the field of ‘molecular machines’, inspired by the mechanics of engineered objects. However, many efforts thu...
A CONSERVED FERTILIZATION COMPLEX BRIDGES SPERM AND EGG IN VERTEBRATES
มุมมอง 1086 หลายเดือนก่อน
Victoria Deneke, Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), Wien, Austria at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA) Abstract Fertilization, the basis for sexual reproduction, culminates in the binding and fusion of sperm and egg. While several proteins have been demonstrated to be essential for this process in vertebrates, the underlying molecular mechanisms ...

Talk by Serena Bovetti, University of Turin, Torino, Italy at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA) Abstract Acquiring sensory-related memories during infancy is a process of social learning found in many species and it has a variety of different adaptive functions. For example, sexual imprinting is a process of instinctive learning during early postnatal developm...
MAPPING THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF BMP, A KEY PHOSPHOLIPID ENABLING LIPID DEGRADATION IN THE LYSOSOMES
มุมมอง 586 หลายเดือนก่อน
Talk by Shubham Singh, MSKCC, New York, USA of America at the 23rd HFSP Awardees Meeting (17-19 June 2024, Washington DC, USA) Abstract Bis(monoacylglycero)phosphates (BMP) is a negatively charged phospholipid exclusively localized in the lysosomes, where it helps lysosomal lipases dock at intralumenal vesicles (ILVs) and degrade membrane lipids. Altered BMP levels result in lysosomal lipid acc...

A great lecture. Is there any way to get a transcript?
Thank you for posting this incredible lecture. I've read about prostaglandin f2α restoring the glypmhatic system to younger functionality in mice. Are there proposed or theorized safer compounds that could potentially do the same to restore function in an impaired or slowed glypmhatic system?
