The Huey Family | Well Sortied
In this video, we're diving into the legacy of one of the most legendary helicopter families in history: the Bell Huey family. The UH-1 Iroquois, known as the "Huey," and its fierce sibling, the AH-1 Cobra, were game-changers in military aviation, evolving from simple utility roles to indispensable battlefield assets. From medevac and transport to direct fire support, these helicopters adapted to the intense demands of the Vietnam War, paving the way for modern rotary-wing combat.

Trying to beat Sprocket in Increasingly Stupid ways (Stream Highlight)
You could do a video explaining the vast differences in design & effect between APHE, AP-HE and SAPHE shells. APHE Examples: Soviet 45mm. BR-251, Soviet 76.2mm. BR-350, British 47mm. 3 Pounder, German 37mm. PzGr.18, German 75mm. K.Gr.Rot.Pz. AP-HE Examples: German PzGr.39 APCBC-HE (all calibres). SAPHE Example: British 5.5 inch howitzer HE shell with innert AP fuse plug installed.
A7V did have suspension of the same type as the St. Chamond. Also, the Mark tanks didnt really need suspension because the ground underneath them was their suspension. They were made for difficult soft terrain, which naturally cushioned the impacts from driving over uneven ground shapes.

The BT-42 wasn't really meant to fight tanks as it was an assault gun used against infantry and enemy emplacements. Although, even at that job it was mostly just.. ok-ish.
I love the ahoy like thumbnail, it goes hard as fuck.
I know an iconic arms thumbnail when I see one
Keep up the good work! More people should watch this.
Love the AHOY inspired thumbnail!
Thanks! Ive enjoyed making them aswell!
You could forget that the Cobra was a slimmed down Huey
The most iconic helicopter of the Vietnam war. It's also so fitting to see the footage at the end of the war and at the end of the evacuations that the Americans dump those helicopters in the sea.

"Mark" series...
I thought it was pronounced "Boogie"
"so the British invented the Boogie 2988 type L tank, it was extremely heavy, cumbersome and above all a pathetic tank design"
To my knowledge, both the Schneider and Saint Chamond running gear were heavily inspired by Holt tractors. In fact, they were modified so that to avoid paying fees.
As was the Sturmpanzerwagen (A7V is a misnomer). The Holt tractor was prolific due to it being basically the first continuous track suspension to be successful.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I just had a quick peak at your channel, and god damn do I love it already! Clear, interesting, nice style. I am a simple wee lad, easily won over, have me subscription!
Cheers, thanks for watching!
The A7V did have suspension, 3 sets of 5 wheel bogies per side on coil springs.
@@garyzimmer4149 Oh oops, one of my sources said it didn't have it but not looking at it it did have Holt Style vertical spring
Always wondered about this - I noticed particularly with the F1 it looked like there was suspension for the track on the upper side, but none for the actual road wheels.... This answers my questions, thanks a bunch!
Glad to be of help! I've been wanting to dive into this for a while!
Hey, Congratulations, a great video, with really cool info. One thing though: Speak more clearly when you narrate these videos, it's sometimes hard to understand what exact word you said, plus no one likes a mumbler.
Thanks for the tip
Nice video dude, suscribed
Cheers, I hope you enjoy the content!
Thanks for making this video, it was really interesting! Keep at it dude :)
Thanks, I put a fair bit too much time looking at suspension of tanks for this
4:55 I would describe my mother in law the same way.
your mother in law is a british rhombiod break through tank?
Jumpscare at 4:22
What is a smoke box and why do you need it in a HE shell?
A smoke box in a high-explosive (HE) shell is used to create a visual marker by generating smoke when the shell explodes. This can be helpful for adjusting artillery fire, marking targets, or signaling. It's often used to help spot the impact or provide cover on the battlefield. tbh its generally not used in tank shells, typically more used in Naval and Artillery shells
@@Enigma2373 Thank you for the detailed response!
Another fine Target tow / Trainer aircraft .
The "squash" /"squish" is strong in this vid. The British army would be proud
To add to this: 1) Since launching an explosive with an explosive is a bit risky, the higher the muzzle velocity, the thicker the shell gets. This means that a Tank cannon with 125mm and 1000m/s may have less explosive per shell than an 80mm mortar that shoots at 300m/s. On the plus side, this means more shrapnel and the shells are less vulnerable to shrapnel/spalling themselves. However, modern explosives are far more stable and thus thin-walled explosives could be made. 2) Such a HESH packs not only more explosive but loses less energy from breaking its own hull and the explosion is closer to the target, whereas by a conventional HE round only the nose touches... 3) another issue is sloped armour: if the projectile bounces off or the nose with the fuse breaks off, then nothing will happen. The HESH deforms and has the detonator at its rear. Thus, it is far more likely to ignite on target. 4) However, HESH doesn't help much against spaced armour and even less against composite armour or ERA-addons. In that case, you're better off shooting a classic HE and hope that the fragments penetrate the roof (thinner armour) or damage the optics, etc. causing a mission kill. In addition, modern tanks have internal anti-spalling liners that greatly reduce the effect of HESH round and modern steel armour is vastly superior to WWII-era armour plates, which were prone to shattering. 5) Modern HE has better high explosives which increase the lethality of the shrapnel towards armoured targets and compensates somewhat for thicker shells.
I really appreciate your contribution! Your expertise adds a lot of depth to the discussion, and it’s great to see such passionate engagement from viewers like you.
Mild script mess up there. 3:09, where I explain about ERA stopping HESH rounds, it sounds like I implied that ERA is the only thing that could counter HESH. This is, in fact, not true, as many different armour types reduce the effectiveness of a HESH shell, like spaced and composite armour, not just ERA. In my head, I thought I said "Like ERA" providing just one example of a thing that could affect the effectiveness
That intro reminds me of Lazerpig(No offense)
@@luap502nd no worries, it was deliberate
What are you censoring? you dont like history now? why even talk about war? dont you know thats not advertiser friendly when people die in war?
@hellishcyberdemon7112 I had to censor some historical symbols because TH-cam's automatic bots flag them. In this case, it was the Finnish Army Roundel, which looks very similar to the German Swastika. I hope my explanation makes sense.
While ERA is effectiv at stopping hesh even the simpler spaced armor already did that.
Wasn’t HE was get stopped by that too? Plus, I probably will dare use HEP/HESH especially demolishing, Make build turn into flat and even Great optional to hunt any of enemy who taking covers, more than Regular HE or HE-frag.
Thanks for your comment! You're right; spaced armor can also effectively counter HESH rounds, and I appreciate you pointing that out. In the video, I meant to emphasize that while ERA is effective, it's not the only type of armor that can reduce the impact of HESH shells. Many armor types, including spaced and composite armor, play a significant role in mitigating their effectiveness. I appreciate the clarification!
@@Enigma2373 even regular homogenous steel alloy armor can defeat HESH, when it is angled steeply enough. more than 60° angle to the impacting HESH round will result in the round splattering and not "squishing" Also shallower angles can have this effect. HESH is overall extremely reliant on a very accurate 30° impact angle to work properly, otherwise its drasticly loosing effectiveness or even completely ineffective.
