Sleeping Dog Homestead Alaska
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ม.ค. 2023
Two kids building a homestead in SouthCentral, Alaska with our three dogs.
We’re escaping the city, chasing our dream of living off the grid. We purchased 31 acres on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska sight unseen.
Moving off grid will allow us to connect fully with the outdoors. We’ve spent our weekends venturing out hiking, camping, hunting, and foraging but are ready to be outside all the time!

And Action! | Our First Time Dipnetting For Salmon
So many snafus on this trip! First, we forgot our life jackets. Then we waited around for stores to open which didn't pan out. After that we drove all the way back into town to pick up our life jackets and scissors from home. The five hours drive after that was rainy and bleary. After arriving in China we followed a hand drawn map by one of our friends. The map was very confusing given our lack of knowledge of the area. We learned that we needed WAY more pole extensions than we had purchased,
After watching a few TH-cam Videos we heard about "the canyon." Our next move was to drive around and figure out where that was. After we sorted that we set out to hike down a trail that most only ATV down to find a spot to fish. As we walked down the winding trail we realized what an extreme hike down to the river it would be.
We tied off a rope and climbed down a spot that looked promising and tried to apply all of our regulations and internet knowledge we had brought with us. After some time we got our first fish! We were ecstatic! The excitement continued between periods of waiting for the fish to arrive.
After we ha caught our fill, not our limit but as much as we wanted to hike out, we started the journey back up the canyon. We made it home with so many amazing memories and a lot of work to do.
We apologize for the delay in videos! Our software and equipment went down and it took way longer than we planned to figure out how to bring it back.
Thanks for watching! We'll have more Alaskan content from this summer and updates on our homestead coming out in the next few months

PIKE FISHING
มุมมอง 4462 หลายเดือนก่อน
We took a trip out to the Matanuska Valley in Alaska to try out hand at fishing for pike in a new lake. We haven't targeted pike specifically before and are excited to catch a few. Our goal for the weekend was to get enough pike to make Travis' grandmothers pike dip recipe! The day started out slow but Travis caught a few large trout. We didn't catch video of all of the trout but because we wer...
Russian River, Cooper Landing Alaska

We went to the Russian River in Cooper Landing, Alaska. Our goal was to catch some salmon and have a relaxing weekend. We may have been too late for the run though! Working on our property has taken a lot longer than we planned and has changed our timeline for fishing and hunting. If we don't start catching fish soon we will have to really buckle down for hunting season so we have food for the ...
Snagging For Sockeye In Seward, Alaska | Vanimal Is Back On The Road
มุมมอง 2.7K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
This weekend we went snagging for sockeye salmon in Seward, Alaska. We got our 1990 lil’ extra van, Vanimal, out of storage and ready for the road. We drove down to Seward to fish in Resurrection Bay. Specifically we went “snagging” which refers to dragging a hook through the water with the intention of hooking a fish in its path. In Alaska you can only snag in salt water. Fresh water fishing t...
Caught In A Storm | No Camping Stove And Two Broken Chainsaws
มุมมอง 1.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
What a wild end to the long weekend. We got caught in a storm and our camp stove and both chainsaws broke. We may be at out wits end with the property. This land is both stunning and unforgiving. We started out our morning trying to get the camp stove to keep a flame. We gave up on that and decided to just throw our perk coffee pot in the fire while we trekked down to the truck to get more wate...
We’re Back! | Expanding Our Cabin Site & Alaskan Spruce Grouse Bigger Than You’ve Ever Seen
มุมมอง 2.9K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
We’re back on the property! After taking some time off to let the ground dry, we’re back with a vengeance. Our plan this trip is to expand our cabin site. We’ve decided to open up the area above where our tent sits so that we can eventually put in a garden and barn. The grouse have been very active and spent a lot of time with us now that we’re back. when we purchased the property, we placed ca...
How To Make Salmon Caviar At Home
มุมมอง 3176 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of our favorite treats is Salmon Roe with rice or on crackers with cheese. We went salmon fishing here in Alaska over the weekend and were blessed with a female sockeye salmon. I forgot to film the before of the raw eggs fresh out of the fish but this is how we process them. Instructions: 1. Fill a bowl with hot water and put your salmon eggs in. Let’s them sit for 10 minutes. 2. In a separ...
Trout Fishing In Talkeetna, Alaska | A Rainy Start To An Awesome Day
มุมมอง 1947 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today we went fishing in Talkeetna, Alaska. What started out as a rainy morning soon turned to biting fish and lots of laughs. We started our journey in Anchorage then made a pit stop for breakfast at Three Bears in Chugiak. There had been a ton of ducks in the Palmer Hay Flats the last time we drove north but they seem to have moved on. Cloudy conditions persisted all day but small outbursts ...
Hypothermic Camping In Alaska | Managing Expectations For Our Homestead
มุมมอง 637 หลายเดือนก่อน
Camping while we figure out what needs to be done on the property has been challenging! We picked up a Mr.Buddy Heater for in the tent but it is eating through our propane supply. We have to carry out anything we need for the property because we don’t own off road vehicles yet. We’ve had to manage expectations when it comes to where we want the cabin to be. We are in the only dry area on the pr...
Cutting A Road To Our Off Grid Property In Alaska | Life In A Tent With Three Dogs
มุมมอง 587 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are just beginning of our homesteading journey here on the KP in Alaska. The trail was less muddy this time! We are so thankful that the dogs will be less dirty while we are living in a tent. Camping while we figure out what needs to be done on the property has been challenging! We thought we had good gear till it was 30 degrees at night. We’ve been huddling for warmth and are thankful for h...

Getting Off The Grid, Kenai Peninsula Alaska | Felling Trees and Flattening Ground With Hand Tools

The second day of our first weekend on our homestead. We are living in a tent with our three dogs while we build our homestead. We bought property sight unseen on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. The property has a “road” to it but it is a muddy mess! We would call it more of a trail. Making it out to the property without the use of off road vehicles has been challenging. We can only bring to the...

We Bought Property In Alaska Sight Unseen | The Ink Is Dry And We’re Here!
I found your channel just now new subscriber but the first and only copper salmon that Ive had i bought at safeway in sf on sixteenth for 40 bucks a pound the best fish ever hands down
Wrong type of net
You may be right, but the fish they caught didn't know the difference.
F the trolls bro. Nice vids, but fingers away from the teeth. LOL Pike fishing is my favorite and I am from Michigan and lot's of good pike fishing our way. Figure out how to filet the Y bones out of Pike and Pike is the best flakey white meat you can eat. Keep it rolling my man!
Thanks for the support man! We’re new to pike but we had a lot to learn! We made an awesome trout dip with our catch
Little action ....allot of talk ....by the way : Use the 16:9 format when you edit videos because it`s not full screen .... Will even keep an eye on your channel , hopefully more action will be caught on camera . Peace !
It was a slow day! We’re learning about video editing and will work out all the kinks. Thanks for the advice! We have a salmon fishing video coming out Friday with a lot more action. Let us know what you think!
Just found you guys! Good luck on your new adventure...I got some videos to catch up on!
So glad you found us!! We’ll have more videos coming soon!
Everyone saying the red run was over weeks ago in Seward too. Wtf!!
This was a couple weeks ago! We caught the end of the run because we were working on the property.
I'm so jealous! Looks gorgeous! Enjoy while we got it! ❤
Any form of snagging fish is so unethical. You have to have no soul as a human to participate in this shit.
Your salmon probably comes from a trawling vessel so
😂 you must not be from Alaska.
It is beautiful - just awesome what you two are doing in Alaska!!
Thank you! We are so blessed to be able to chase our dreams together
ok so you had the propane bottle upside down.
We watched a few @jiujitsu2000 campstove videos and realized our initial mistake 🤦♀️ we changed the tank position and the regulator is still messed up
@@sleepingdoghomesteadAK yes because it came in contact with liquid propane and broke it. people like you should not play with stuff you don't under stand.
👍
Julius smugness….. gold
That boi is not loving it
We are thinking of doing this too. Followed you!
Thanks for the follow! It’s been an adventure so far and we’ve only just begun
That boy can dig ! I’ve seen him dig all types of holes ! Round holes, deep holes, long holes, wide holes, holes that even go through rocks….
🤣 I’m honing my skills so I can be as good as him one day
We bought our property sight on scene as well and it worked out great! I just subscribed to your channel. I'm a fairly new TH-camr as well. We have a lot of work to do also. Life is good. We're not moving up until 2026. How about you?
Thank you for subscribing! We’re going to follow you too! Our plan for this summer is to build a road, clear and level some spots on the property and get a pad set up for the cabin! We would love to start building this year but we’re expecting to build next summer. We’ve been cutting trees and leveling what we can by hand. Where are you located!
I’m building a cabin here, tell me when ur ready for us!! 🫶🏼
Once we get this road in yall can come up!
