As a Jamaican who's been in the States since 69. I feel in love with motocross in 1972 when I "borrowed" a classmates copy of Dirt Bike Magazine. I was entralled seeing been in the air... All of two and a half feet in the air. There were the best in the world, names like Nicola decastor auberg, and deep inside of me I knew I wanted to be like those guys. Couldn't have foreseen that 30 years later novices on dirt bikes would be flying way way higher than these professional and Grand Prix but they did what they could with the machinery they had. After all was said and done I was the poor kid that didn't have the cool toys and whose parents couldn't afford the dirt bike and they hated motorcycles anyway. Took me 10 years to from when I got my ride on the back of a mini bike to when I was able to grow up and by my own dirt bike. Took another 10 years for me to figure out how to actually win a race, but in all that time my passion for the sport turned into journalism, so even though I didn't become a pro with the throttle all the people that you look at in the United States and think of wow that's Ricky Carmichael, that's James Stewart, I've been right in front of these guys getting into before and after races and that was my way of hanging with the stars of my sport . Like everyone who puts on a helmet and it is a race whether it's two or four wheel I don't say that I have any regrets, but I would have been more disciplined and dedicated in the early part of my racing, and I would have committed the resources to getting good at it instead of leaking it bit by a bit over time. Getting a coach and the last 2 years of my racing took me from scratching inside the top five to completely decimated the amateur classes when the knowledge of my writing coach John, a former Grand Prix racer and one of only a few men to have scored points in the 125, 250, and 500cc Grand Prix Motocross classes, he was also three-time Greek national champion.. John Efthimiou 👈🏾 look him up. There have been a couple of black professional racers in the time that I was competing and also covering the races as a journalist The most notable of which is the world renowned James Stewart Jr. But I'm the same age as another guy Andrew Jefferson, aha, Bro Show, as well as two brothers from Pennsylvania who were already racing the pro-class when I was just beginning. Then there was Wendell Giles from here in New York, you can look that name up also and probably find him on Facebook. The first time I saw Wendell had a race and this is before I started racing I was shocked when this person took the helmet off and looked around and I saw a black face that looked like mine. He has no idea how the first time I met him it put the idea into my head that I can do this too. It's a beautiful thing to see black people riding dirt bikes, causes still at the race is where I live there's not that many even now. And it's not because of the tribe, I called the Motocross drive family and I mean every letter of the word family. They took me in, and embraced me because they saw how much I wanted to be a part of this amazing tribe. I hope the Bermuda racera continue to hold races like these. I'm sure there are daddy his who can mentor the young riders, but I would love to take someone under my wing and share my offer they're years of experience with them. My questions are: does the time start at altitude? How many flights a day? How is it cleaned between said flights, cause ya know!? Also, can thr piolet hear you? Cause for some, that may be a bad performance thing
