Northern Homestead
Sweden
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ก.ย. 2021
In 2020 we decided to finally take the big leap and sold everything in order to follow our dream to self sufficiency. We started living in a caravan where we had our first daughter and then moved to the north of Sweden in 2021. After 1 year of living here we bought a piece of land in the middle of nowhere where we moved to after having our second daughter in 2023. Follow us on our channel and watch work hard towards our goal of growing our food, raising animals and being self sufficient as much as we possibly can. We're on a search for freedom and independence!
Things I'll Do Differently In 2025
It's that time of the year where resolutions are made and we are no different, so Vince sat down to make a list about things we need to change on the homestead in 2025. Feel free to share with with us any changes you plan to make in your life!

First Snowstorm Of The Year | Finding Burst Pipe In Barn - Vlog 7
มุมมอง 35612 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We are travelling back in time to 2 weeks ago and show you the trouble we're having getting a water connection set up between the house and the barn, so that we don't have to haul watering cans to the sheep every day. Besides that Caroline makes a lovely carrot cake after which we jump back to the present day where we are taking down the greenhouse roof so that it doesn't collapse under all the...

Homesteading Is Hard! - Vlog 6
มุมมอง 706วันที่ผ่านมา
We've had another busy week behind us and things didn't go all that smoothly. At some stage it felt like we were taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back! In this video we'll be working on our water feeders for the sheep, moving the sawmill outside, milling our own lumber, fixing the engine and making a start on the barn extension. We also feed the chickens draff, which we get free from our local...
This Solved Our Frozen Chicken Water Problem! - Vlog 5
มุมมอง 44614 วันที่ผ่านมา
Another week has gone by and we've managed to build ourselves a functional home-made water heater for the chickens which solved our frozen chicken water problem and a couple of simple but also functional feeding troughs for the sheep. Remember, we are doing all of this for the first time, so if you have any suggestions on how to make it better, drop us a comment! Hope you enjoy the scenery and ...
First Time Sheep Owners - How are we doing after 3 months? - Vlog 4
มุมมอง 43621 วันที่ผ่านมา
Watch as we show you how we got our first sheep to the farm, how we prepared and restructured an old barn into a sheep barn and where we store our scythed and hand-baled hay. We also touch upon predators in our area and rotational grazing. These sheep are a special breed in Sweden (Finewool/Finullsfår) and have the highest average lambs per birth, plus they are well known for their fine wool an...

Making hand-made hay bales in the north
It's great to have future plans. I live off grid but I am not a homesteader. Have you tried pressure canning vegetables & meat? It's a great way to preserve food without needed refrigeration.
That's very impressive that you're off-grid! That's certainly our goal, but we found this home which was connected to the grid and then you can get too accustomed to the ease of it. However, it certainly feels very good to have home made electricity when there's power outages several times a year and we want to be independent. We are actually also going to look into canning next growing season yes. Thanks for reminding me! We've never done it before, so do you have any tips on what brands are good?
@@northernhomestead2024 I will be sending you an email regarding my recommendations.

Good job 👍
Thank you!
I caught plastic in my snow blower once. What a mess. It wrapped around so much, it stretched in so deep. I don't think I got it all out. Nice Vid.
Thank you! It really is a mess. I had hit a tarp last winter as well, but that just ripped the tarp. This was a first for me and it took me a lot longer to get it out than shown in the video (as you'll know from experience!)
So happy to see you enjoy life in Sweden / Louise 🇸🇪
So far it's treating us very well 😁
Nice home made Pizza 👌
It was very tasty! Especially with hot sauces of course 😁
Great !!
Thanks! 😁
amazing
Thank you!
Nice building skills 👌
Thanks! All done with leftovers and some beams that I cut on the bandsaw :-)
Now you can say that you just casually almost made a barn fall
I'll have something interesting to say at my next dinner party...
Nice one Vinnie😂
Thanks VP! You'll be happy to know that I did level it in the end lol
Love the snow. We managed to catch the tail end of last season in Fransta when we were over in Easter and our last couple of days had a big dump of snow :)
We had the same. I remember it, cause people were supposed to come visit us, but instead we just got snowed in!
Haha what happened up there? Did the skylift tilt because you tried to fight the fall of the turbine?
Like the muppet I am, I actually pressed the wrong button which made the skylift go sideways and then the weight of the turbine did the rest. It slid off and I think it was best I didn't manage to hold on to the turbine, cause that particular skylift was really wobbly and almost fully extended, so god knows what would've happened!
@@northernhomestead2024 Haha yeah good decision to let go
the whole time watching this im just waiting for it to catch a bind lol
Surprisingly that actually never happened, even though it gets clogged so quickly
Vince are you from Holland ? Awesome story by the way
Hej! Yes I am. My wife is Scottish, but still my Dutch accent will never leave me I'm afraid 😅 Where are you from? Your name looks Dutch... Thank you for watching my video btw, and very happy to hear you enjoyed it!!
Two man job then
Absolutely 100% correct!
What an amazing journey you have made! Makes me very happy to hear you stopped drinking alcohol for good! It really is something so many others would benefit a lot from doing. Mainly healthwise, but also like you say its a way to save money! You guys are truly inspiring!
Thanks a lot! I certainly wouldn't be able to the things I do today physically and mentally if I hadn't quit the booze. At the same time it's also thanks to being out here that it was easy to quit, so it's a wonderful balance!
Well done!
Thank you!
Wind turbines are a bit of a catch 22.....need significant maintenance and you really need to spend lots . Most people are relying on solar, even up north.
Yeah, solar is certainly popular up here. We have only 2 panels and they provide a lot of electricity. We need some alternative in the dark winter months however, although 1 wind turbine is not gonna cut it. We have one "neighbour" who is building his own wood gasifier, which he'll connect to a generator and get electricity that way, which sounds like a very good solution.
Am impressed by both you and the sheep that I think both did great! That sheep really trust you 💙
Thank you! They still trust me, even after that experience 😅 The ewes are a different story though, but I'll win them over one day...
Nice to see and hear you sharing your new life and the hard work you do to achieve your goals! Good luck and keep up with the vlogs! And yes, the internet remains a wonderful possibility to connect us all whereever we are.
Thank you! Without the internet we would certainly not be able to do the things as fast, or as well as we are doing them now!

Just a short back and sides thanks 🤣
OK, get the disinfectant ready!
Cool video! Great to see you guys are doing well. I have to agree with Vincent, if you are online, you aren’t off the grid :)) Also more cats please
Thanks! And thanks for agreeing with my ON-line does not equal OFF-grid theory 😁
Congrats Vinnie and Caroline! Where are the cats? Greets
Thanks VP! Fluffy passed away a long time ago. He only became 3 years old. But the second cat Fraggle has been with us all throughout our travels and is now bringing home mice every night 😁 Hope all is well with you! Greetings from the north
So great to see you guys / Lou (ex colleague)
Thanks Lou!
Damn, Im impressed! 5 more bales Vince! ;)
I made 200 of these in the end! Sick of hay bales 😂
