Cartagena is a port city and naval base in the Murcia region of southeast Spain. It was my first time going to Cartagena, Spain. It was raining on the day we arrived, but I could still enjoy the city excursion. Seeing how the museum was built around the architectural finds was interesting. Parque Cornisa del Teatro Romano was a spectacular visual of a Roman theatre. It was a city within a city. The tour detailed how the transformation of the Market building took place. The city really reminded me of Venice.
As we went further down into the ruins, I tried my best not to become claustrophobic, but I didn’t do a good job of it. The artifacts, especially the pottery, were stunning.
The excursion also took us to La Union, Parque Regional Calblanque, Montes de las Cenizas y Pena del Aguila, La Manga del mar Menor, and Real Club de Regatas.
The real beauty was looking at the city from my balcony as we sailed on to our next city adventure.
