    Wax rings are superior to rubber period! I've never had an issue with a wax ring and removed many toilets that had them and been in place for 20 plus years without a leak. The few times I've used the rubber a noticeable percent leaked or the toilet didnt want to sit right. Rubber is junk!

    Bro, you've had three or four calls where a homeowner didn't install Better than Wax properly? I've had three wax rings fail in our *one* house in the past seven years. I don't know if they were installed by a plumber or not, because we didn't have it done (although the triple-stacked wax I'm assuming was some dummy DIYing), but I have had to cut out large sections of subfloor *twice* because of failed wax. I would literally never install a wax ring again, and I throw plumbers out of my house who try to argue with me about it.

    I just had one installed with the Fuidmaster. I've had so many wax rings fail on me over the years in 5 different homes or so, and I'm done with them. The last time, the water was literally flushing under the tiles into a bedroom for about a year! The wax was completely gone when the toilet was removed.

    We call it groundworks... deep groundworks and layout... then we run our waste (abs) ...vtr Then the water crew does the pex and everything else... we run test..pass test... drop test... silicone/glue test t plugs then tubs... then toilet flanges... then trim later... we do new construction apartments so the bottom floor always requires some chipping for the flanges if they shift during backfill anf concrete pour...so we wrap the 3" toilet pipe with foam wrap before concrete... then pull it out and use offset flanges...

    • @lanceball6298
      @lanceball6298 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For this style on the spout there is an allen set screw for the spout behind the rubber or plastic plug. For a normal style they are sometimes threaded or have a set screw. For this I would recommend calling a service plumber as damage is likely onbthe set screws.

    If you cant plung a wax ring without blowing it out says to me the material is faulty, you shouldnt have to call a plumber everytime you clog a toilet. I have blown out at least 3 wax rings just from plunging it, and that shouldnt happen. What i do now, if im constipated ( medication induced) i will squeeze a bit of dish liquid in toilet b4 droppin a load, it does help by creating a slick surface. i know this info will help someone

  • @philipnicholson3216
    @philipnicholson3216 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I respect and admire professional trades people but honestly, who in the hell doesn't plunge their toilet? So if you use wax, you run the risk of blowing out the wax, which happened to us and is why I needed to cut out and replace subfloor due to damage of undetected leaks. Fernco makes a waxless funnel which actually glues onto the horn at bottom of toilet, other end has baffles which seal inside the funnel of the flange and opening of the waste pipe. Easy to put on, nothing to blow out. As you sit your toilet down you can "feel" the baffles crunching verifying a good fit. Have never seen ANY product that actually attaches to the toilet itself - it's like a freakin miracle

  • @TheNYgolfer
    @TheNYgolfer 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Here is the problem with the no wax seal. 1. The inside diameter of the seal is so much smaller than the outlet flange on the toilet, so if you follow instructions and place the seal on the floor flange then seat the toilet, the seal will never pass over the toilet outlet flange. The toilet flange will just push the seal down instead of fully engaging it. 2. The outside diameter of the seal is just about 1/4 inch larger than the inside diameter of the floor/closet flange on old lead pipe installs. So if you just move the toilet a little after seating it in order to say "square" the toilet with the wall , you can create an air gap between the rubber seal and the closet flange. So, here is how I do it, and have never had a problem. I've never heard it done this way so I'd like to think I invented the method..lol I use both the no wax seal and a wax ring without the trumpet insert. I place the wax seal on the floor closet flange and I place to no wax seal on the toilet outlet flange. It will go on very tightly, which will make you understand why there is no way the toilet will ever engage the seal fully if you follow the manufacturers recommendation of placing the seal on the closet flange, then seating the toilet. As for how to glue the toilet down so it doesn't move after installation, I remove the water closet ( toilet tank) then turn the toilet upside down on the floor, then run a thick bead of GE Silicone II (no cheap garbage subsitute...you will regret it) on top of the toilet's bottom perimeter. Then flip the toilet back upright, without of course letting the bottom of the toilet with it's silicone bead touch the floor (it ain't easy and having a helper is nice, although I have never used one) now go ahead and seat the toilet onto the closet flange bolts. Tighten them down, then do the finger smear job to remove excess silicone that has oozed out during install. The key to making the finger job look good is to push very hard with your finger and, go only about 2 inches at a time, then wipe your finger clean on a paper towel, then do another 2 inches , and so on. Anyone who thinks the silicone won't hold, consider this. Whenever I had to remove a toilet down the road, which I installed, it is a bitch getting that toilet to break loose . I end up using a utility knife to cut into the silicone. One caveat though. The floor must be very clean and dry as well as the bottom of the toilet. Otherwise the silicone will not adhere properly.

    If you are careless using a K-6 toilet auger then you can hook the rubber on the seal. Still the rubber is the better way to go. You end up with a servicable connection so it makes removing and resetting the toilet much easier. All wax rings and rubber seals should always have a toilet flange at finished floor height. If you don't then you will have problems no matter what you install!

  • @richardhaley3347
    @richardhaley3347 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wax rings melt in the service truck. The plastic horn on the thicker wax ring will eventually wiggle loose and shift, obstructing the toilet drain opening especially with air assisted tank units. Wax does not do well with movement....like really big people(calorically challenged) people getting on and off the toilet repeatedly. I have had much better results using the rubber than the wax rings.

    • @lanceball6298
      @lanceball6298 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the faucet is wobbly either the valve assembly is loose or the handle has not been tightened enough. The main spout piece is tightened by the allen screw on the back of the spout. If that does not tighten the trim then its the valve and that has to be tightened by accessing the bottom part of the valve.
