Move to Raleigh
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ส.ค. 2023
Welcome to the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina! If you're considering a move to the Triangle, or you already live here and just want a more in-depth look at the area, my goal is to show you a little bit of everything that I love about living here -- and throw in some educational videos on the buying & selling process.
As an NYC transplant to Raleigh, NC, I can relate to those looking to make the move to a new city, and I love sharing what makes living here so great: amazing access to the outdoors, great weather, a booming food scene, one of the most educated populations in the country, tons to do, overall affordability...the list goes on and on. And as a real estate broker with over $60M in sales, I know how to work with customers from all over the country -- and world -- to find your dream home in the Triangle region. If you're considering a move, I'd love to connect!

Your über driver lied to you. We’re in Denver now (Highlands Ranch) and watching videos planning our move to Raleigh…it rarely snows here. It can snow in June or October, but that doesn’t mean it will. We didn’t get snow until November this fall. Granted, it was 20” when we did, but it will be melted and gone by Wednesday.
I heard about the storm y'all just got - wow! We knew the Uber driver didn't mean it snows in Oct and June EVERY year, but it did reinforce for us that, while we still wanted a place with four seasons, we didn't want winter to be too long. We get proper jacket weather here for a couple months, but it hasn't snowed since Jan 2022 (I'm hoping that changes this winter!). Then we're back to comfortable temps by March/April. Always happy to chat to answer any questions you have as you're planning your move to Raleigh - 310-850-4855 or matt.martin@compass.com
Most interesting cocktail I ever had was a beet-infused vodka with singed rosemary at J Betski's. If I lived a thousand years, I'd turn into Dracula before using beets in a drink. Amazing. The red beans and rice at St. Roch is *revelatory* -- the bbq sauce is the same they use on the bbq oysters and I just can't clock it. I've tried brown butter, beer reduction, smoking the ingredients, and combinations of all 3. Can't figure it out. [I ate there only once in 2017 and I still think about it]
Those both sound amazing!
I always appreciate the opinions of a gay man on restaurants in my area. You all have a great eye for food.
@@BBAERSTANCE1 🤣🤣 Happy to help! Do you agree with the choices?
@ yes, I would only say the BBQ options could be better. But if you just moved here they are fine options
@@BBAERSTANCE1 ooh - which do you recommend? I also love Lawrence BBQ.
Raleigh summers definitely nicer than Ohio Valley, but it was the critters that were untenable. I lived near the new Top Golf construction in Morrisville when I first moved so I attributed it to that, but the random roaches, silver fish, newts, frogs the lake in apt walls and breezeways made me a little crazy. I lived on the first floor so I put a seal around my entry and large heavy door mats i hoped bugs couldnt crawl over. I used irish spring, peppermint spray, sonic bug/rodent repellant, kept Zevo traps for gnats that got into my apt from a crack in the wall my complex found started in the roof 3 floors up. That first summer was rough. I don't recall a mosquito issue but I would put salt in standing puddles after rains to curb that.
Ooh the salt is a good move! We get our house sprayed for other critters about twice a year and it's thankfully worked great.

Hi Matt, thanks for this video. Is there also a county tax? Having lived in NY state, there was always either city+town/county or village+town, or some combination of 2 taxes as part of one's property. How do school taxes work (again, that was a big tax in NY)? Lastly, I didn't know about the car tax. Is that extra charge fueling a buildout of a publicly-owned charging network or expanding electrical grid, or is the state a little anti-electric car (not meant as a political statement, just curious)? Thanks, again.
@@StephenPortugal hi! Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, everyone pays the county tax, and then you also pay a city tax if you live within a city's limits (usually meaning you have access to city services like water, sewer, and trash pickup). There's no separate school tax that I'm aware of - school funding comes from a mix of local property taxes and state funding (income tax revenue, corporate tax revenue, etc.) As for the additional electric car fee, it's because electric car drivers don't otherwise pay the gas tax that ICE drivers pay, which is used to help maintain and build out roads. So this additional EV tax is meant to supplement that lost revenue.
How about Feyetteville?

How do you think the hurricane will affect the market and people wanting to to move to your area?? Hoping all effected are safe.
That's a really good question. The Triangle was mostly unscathed by the hurricane, so I don't know that there will be much impact on inbound demand. Unfortunately this has been our wettest September in 30 years and apparently one of the top 3 of all time, so this is not common at all.

The weather seems a lot like Californias. Does Raleigh get a lot of rain/ storms during hurricane season?
@@mangoqueen1681 thank you for watching! Being from CA originally, I can say the weather is very different between the two. We have four full seasons here, so our winters are much colder and our summers are much more humid. We get about 45" of rain a year vs LA's 15" with more thunderstorms than you'd see in CA. We have much more moderate weather than many other parts of the East Coast though. Our winters are much shorter and warmer than the North East's, and we don't have an agonizingly long summer like you'd find further south.
