New drive system for my machines.
มุมมอง 2625 ปีที่แล้ว
I am working on a new drive setup for my machines. I want to get away from the rotisserie motor setups. Get something with a little more control and reliability. Right now sitting on a one button reverse , variable speed from 2 rpm up to 5 rpm atm but that can be changed via programming. I think this will be the next evolution. Along with the higher reliability I see all sorts of other potentia...

Custom foam insert on spindle.
มุมมอง 4816 ปีที่แล้ว
This is getting to be very close to the final design. This video is showing my daughter putting the insert in a Ozark trails wine tumbler. It also fits very nicely in quite a few other things I tried it on that I have around here. Believe me that’s a list. I’m upload this from my phone and to be honest do not want to type out the entire list on phone. But short list is 20’s , 30’s, 40’s, the co...

Experimental foam piece in wine tumbler.
มุมมอง 1.4K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is the first piece where I took one of my spindles , mixed and poured my own foam around spindle. This is the very first attempt. Fits pretty nice in the wine tumblers. I am trying to achieve a soft memory foam feel to them. I’m still playing with shapes a bit so not sure what will be the final shape.

    this video makes it look like it fits in easy? I love your adapters for most everything and im sure I will like this , but I have the newer one and its much harder to get in and does not go in like in this video it won't fit straight in like the video shows you have to bed the fingers to get the whole thing. I broke one finger but once it is in it still works , I wish I would of got it when they were newer, it looks like it smaller and goes in smoother

      No sorry. It was pretty much designed from ground up to do this. The bushings thru the frame I print in house on a 3-d printer. The gears are all lasercut in house , the frames are machined to keep positions close for a smooth fit. Sorry to say this makes it where some of the components are not off the shelf.

    Can you explain how you made this?

    • @WillardHurst
      @WillardHurst 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The design from ground up is mine. I use everything from 3D printers to large cnc wood routers to machine the frames. The tolerances have to be pretty close to make sure everything works as advertised. The one in this video is an early generation one but the design is currently very close to what is shown. Minor changes here and there to make them just a bit better here and there. About the only "off the shelf" component is the motor assembly. Everything else is made.

    • @BloodSweatnBass
      @BloodSweatnBass 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      still ridiculously priced at $225 I don't care what you used to make it there are plenty of components that could have been used other than 3D prints and the use of CNC's...(over kill) ...this whole design could be easily made with common parts and hand/power tools.

    • @stevenbunch393
      @stevenbunch393 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've tried several other cheaper designs and they just haven't worked. I personally think going the extra mile to design these to work better makes the price fair. People are selling these cups for 50/60 bucks. This machine pays for itself for those who make a business out of these tumblers. Common parts don't always make for a reliable machine. It's also compact enough for convenience.

    What do you mean you print yourself, what could I use in place of!? Than

    • @WillardHurst
      @WillardHurst 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 3-d printer that I use to print portions of the spindle adapter. These parts are then re-enforced using PVC and a steel screw. This assembly that I print is then screwed into the pool noodle. This is a pretty tight fit. This expands the pool noodle a little more and creates a tight fit between the noodle and spindle. This also makes it a pretty tight fit to the cup itself. The longest one has been on so far was during testing a 30 oz mug was left on continuous for just over 2 weeks. It then fell off due to the pool noodle taking the shape of the ID of the cup. So tip of the day no matter who's design you use the noodles will eventually fail first. So stock up in summer months when they are on sale for a dollar a piece. Alternatives: I have seen quite a few different ways. I first tried just taking the spikes that come with the rotisserie kits and sticking that into pool noodles. Keey wife happy and done deal. But no :(.. This however creates a tapered shape then after so long the cup falls off. Maybe a couple of hours , maybe 30 minutes. Now this has become a thing for me against machines. I do not loose. With that being said this was also easier said than done. With keeping a fair and reasonably low price into the mix. The square drive needed to be tapered to get it to seat in place and not walk off. Whatever holds noodle onto the spindle cannot be smooth. Noodle falls off spindle. Yes you can glue them but then it's not very easy to replace noodle. Mine essentially screw into the inside of the noodles. Cut old ones off screw new one on. I thought about going down some other lines but then things started getting ugly and generally complicated. Functional , yes , clean looking , no. I like clean and easy. If you already have some sort of rotisserie motor setup and are looking just for spindles I sell those individually as well. Just my .02

      It doesn't have to bridge too big of a gap as it comes back up on top. It just hangs over a little bit more each pass. You get a little spot at the top of hole but it's easy to clean out with a knife.
