This is a ranking of the debut albums of these bands, It doesn't suggest that these are necessarily their best efforts.

I think to do that one needs to include albums from 1995 to 1996 too. Mine is restricted to max. 1994. After 1994 lots of second wave bands were having their second albums released, so actually the impact of the wave was dwindling. I think it is tidier this way.

@@NeptuneTowers First comes the songwriting, then musicianship. The production quality is not the biggest part as long as it is so bad that dragging the song down. The lyrics rarely elevate the score of the song, but they might lower it. As soon as the song starts, first ten or twenty seconds, a score comes to my mind and as the song continues, the needle of the dial in my mind goes up or down and at the end the final score is reached. Even it is a song I know very well (the songs I know well are the usually ones that trickiest to score) I'd give every song at least two listens and more for some songs. The songs themselves have to earn their points, some songs' scores start low but they compel me to listen to them over and over again until they earn a very well deserved higher score. If songwriting is not there but instead the song is full of riff salads and cheap gimmicks I am really hard on them. I'd appreciate a song that has layers and evolves, opens up as the song plays but if it is not done coherently, aimfully and tastefully I would rather a straightforward, simple one riff song. These are some of the points that come to mind. In a nutshell, it is subjective. I am not a musician but I deem myself to be a very good listener of music so I don't give a damn about how many notes per second the guitar player plays as long as it fits the song and those notes are written good.

Ya I get that, but did you like Frost? It was a way more aggressive album in a more evil in way, especially Vocally.

It was Enslaved's first release on Osmose productions. Instead of a few lengthy epics like in Vikingligr Veldi, Frost has 9 songs, some of them only 4 or 5 minutes long. Musically, they have lost some of that "raw" sound that was effective on their demos and Vikingligr Veldi, but the new sound still works very well. But they certainly haven't sacrificed any speed, the songs “Wotan”, “Loke”, and “Jotunblod” especially go at a breakneck pace. Some songs, like “Fenris”, offer very interesting changes in pace. It starts off pretty slow, then gradually speeds up a bit, then at about 3:30, vocalist Grutle Kjellson growls menacingly and drummer Trym leads a speed assault that lasts for the remainder of the song. The songs “Isöders dronning” and Yggdrasil both make good use of accoustic guitar, several of the songs have catchy synth bits, and Ivar Bjørnson's guitar work is solid throughout. Spoken vocals that I enjoyed so much, especially on the Hordanes Land song "Slaget i skogen bortenfor," return for a little bit at the end of “Isöders dronning”. So overall a very good release from Enslaved. Although their later work became very experimental and the vocals became more philosophical and in English, Frost is a good example of classic Norwegian viking black metal.

@@DesolateSolitude Thanks for the lengthy answer. The problem is, I have always seen Enslaved as a Viking Metal band (I know it is a thematic genre not a musical one) and the concept I have in my mind for BM is mostly tied to the themes like satanism, paganism or other fantasy elements (that must be why I love Immortal- Instead of milking the overused Viking themes they used Demonaz' Blashyrkh). I see Viking Metal from a departure from Black Metal. I know it is like an umbrella genre for Bm, Melodeath or Folk Metal bands, but I have a distinct line in my mind between Under the sign... and Blood Fire Death, the first is BM the latter is not. I don't dislike Viking themes, I don't mind listening to it from time to time but maybe because how it is popular and overused, I lost my interest in it. I remember how I enjoy listening to Amon Amarth in early 2000s, but now when I come across their newer music on my YT pages, they look like a joke to me with their cheesy, corny Viking themed songs. They , like "let's make the same generic melodeath music and add Odin and Thor into the mix, the suckers will buy it anyway". Maybe I got more cynical with age but that's what I feel. So, even before I made this list I was hesitant to put Enslaved on it but the consensus was so strong on the albums place in the second wave so I felt compelled to put it on the list.

Bir haftadır hastanede refakatçi olduğumdan pek bir şeye bakamadım. Haftaya hastane işi daha fazla uzamazsa tekrar video üretimine başlıyacağım. Solstice'e gelince, pek bildiğim bir grup değil. Elimde yapacağım grupların uzun bir listesi var. Onların bir kısmından sonra belki ileride şarkı ya da album reaction tarzı bir şey yapabilirim.
