I love plants! You can find me pottering with my plants most days. Sometimes I have help from the sweetest assistant, my daughter, Rose.

Rabbit Fern Update
มุมมอง 2.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This addresses a video I made where I repotted a Rabbit Foot Fern. It got a lot of views and many people disagreed with how I had repotted my plant. This video is an update on the plant and a conversation about the comments made.
Rooting a Variegated Monstera deliciosa

Here are some methods I use to root my variegated Monsteras. Some are clear cut (like water propagation) and others are a bit more experimental for me, like rooting in soil.

Break the pot...
Thanks for this. I have the same issue and have found no info on what to do. so am pleased to find your video. I must say that you are very brave for filming it and uploading!
Gosh, I'm thankful she's not a surgeon....
Yup I agree
Yes, I saw the first video. I’m glad that you made an update. They look absolutely beautiful.
The roots on the bottom of the pot were holding the plant in the pot. if you had removed them and pushed a stick up through the hole in the pot you would have found the plant would have come out easier.
I’ve been using a ton of these for almost all my plants (25+), big ones included! Absolute lifesaver for someone who can’t keep track of which plant is running a bit dry. I’m using an imitation version which is much cheaper but seems to work the same. Especially my Alocasias and Calatheas love these!
Yay! Happy fern! I’m glad it’s growing beautifully!
What is the name of the very large fern at the end of the video
He is loving life!
I would crack the pot.
Wow 😊 it is looking amazing. I’ve just been gifted a huge, overgrown rabbit foot fern that I need to repot. It was my father in law’s dad’s so I’m happy to have your videos to help me along the way. Thank you 🙏
New subscriber. So glad I found your channel. Not many channels that deal with plants in South Africa.👌🏻
👏Beautiful plant, ❤ ferns. I have a philodendron in the biggest pot I can find this reminds me of what u had to do. Watering can help maybe a few hours before. Break the pot maybe mine is plastic so I couldn’t. That’s a really pretty fern I hope it’s doing well. Do you sell any fern clippings and or do you have a button fern? Thank you so much for this video & I’m not being critical people, just trying to help. 🫶
Must be doing something right, she is surrounded by happy plants. ❤
Very informative I know absolutly nothing about these plants but have been asked to do some research for my brother.would it be any good to have a few inches of soil in a glass jar topped up with water and then let the cutting grow into the soil. Or is that a totally cuckoo idea.
Break the pot, geez
Great, glad she took to the new pot so well! I appreciate that you didn’t break the first pot - my fern is in a very pretty pot I’d hate to have to break, so I appreciated your efforts. Thank you so much!
Oh my God, what an ordeal! I need to repot my fern and I’m dreading it - now I know why 😂!
If anyone is ever in a repot crunch like this use a old chop stick from takeout and do the outer edge to loosen all the way around or just hammer the pot. I took on a monster of a repot like this once myself. Its a beastly of a job lol.
Thank you, I've been avoiding repotting mine. She's also heavily bound and finally did it. Putting soil back In was..fun 😂
Q ada punya akar gitu
I have one of these! I can't wait until mine gets longer feet like yours!
4:42 I usually push a finger down into the drainage hole on the bottom of the pot from the outside as I try to pull the plant out. Sometimes it works. : ) Did the plant survive?
thé way she does it you will never have the roots suck the water in the bottle .
Thank you So Much ! Most Detailed & Helpful Video I've for On This Exquisited Plant ! Love Their Beauty of Being Unique, Like All Of Us ! Bless You
very nice, thanks for sharing just a little heads up in case you are not already aware it does not have aerial roots, those fuzzy "rabbit-foots" are rizomes, basically creeping stems and i don't thhink you need to repot this anytime soon as they don't acctually need very much soil to thrive in nature they can grow on rock or the sides of trees as long as they get enough moisture
for super rootbound plants I use a cheap flexible bread knife run around the inside of the pot. Works like a charm! Thanks for the video!
I can't watch this anymore , Poor plant. Hanging up
It really hurts when I see ppl damage plants ..u did what u had to do .....but I would ve cut the pot and save the plant ...gd job any way
I would have just broke the pot
So glad it survived. I’m planning on repotting one similar to this today. I’m going to soak mine for about 15 min before.
Great job repotting! There is not much info out there on how to repot large, overgrown Rabbit Ferns. Your videos give me a starting place. Thank you for sharing!
Did the plant live? Is it still alive 2 years later? 😊 just wondering. My rabbit foot fern is ready to be repotted. Thank you for sharing your experience ❤
It is! I made a recent video about it :)
My mother pulled hers out and used a knife to divide it into more plants. Cur right through the middle. I have mine in a hanging basket.
I’ve heard of people just cutting the roots and the plants doing fine. Sounds counterintuitive but seems to work for some
Your space and plants are all gorgeous! Great instinct with what you did for that Rabbit Fern, it will probably catch up to your massive one! Gorgeous :)
Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for this. I just found a VERY root bound and sun damaged RFF on the side of the road. The aerial roots are completely covering the top of the soil and I needed a tip on what it would look like once out of the pot...I'm going in....
Pleasure! Good luck!
It looks tragic compared to a smaller one I have but I’ll give it all the lurve I can.
I use honey as plant food all my plant are thriving using this About 2 tablespoons or so per gallon of water My rabbits foot is doing great I use a bit of honey in my water I love it and it will not burn the roots like commercial plant food does
Interesting. Never heard of that method before
I usually wash out the soil with a hose pipe first. It makes it a lot easier to remove rootbound plants without damaging the roots.
Plants aside, I love your floor 😄😄
Thank you! It's a bit of a problem in winter because it's so cold, but in summer it rules!
Wow Lovely plants 🪴 😍 Thank you for good sharing 😊 Include LIKE 41 , I leave 3 presents 🎁 My friend, always Stay connected. Have a nice day 😊 & Welcome to my channel ~~

The white Variegata!
My favourite
What kind of fern is the huge one you showed?
I actually have nooo idea. I suspect it’s something indigenous to South Africa but have never had it IDed.
Beautiful plants.
Thank you!
Please talk about the moss poles. Do you make yours?
I don’t- a friend does. But they’re relatively easy to make with wire mesh and spaghnum moss
Wow beautiful green hause and plant👍🤗🍀☘️🌱🌿
Thank you so much, I really do love it
So many amazing plants!
Thank you!
So cool! Do you buy your coir poles?
The moss poles I buy from poles and plants in JHB, the coir poles generally come with the plants when I buy them
I just watched the 1st video screaming use a butter knife! :) But then came to see how it did. Well done ♥Mine has just come out of a BiOrb that took over the space. And needed more watering than I realized for a terrarium ...so dry! BiOrb is getting a makeover and now I know some of my fern should be tough enough to survive.
With enough water, these guys can definitely be quite tough!
