Chasing the Dream RV
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ต.ค. 2019
We're Randy and Terry, and with our pugs, Gracie and Woody, we live the Full-Time RV lifestyle. In May 2020, we decided life was too short to stay in one place, so we happily sold our home and embarked on a thrilling journey in our Tiffin Allegro RED 33AA. Our RV adventures have taken us all over the U.S., and along the way, we've documented our experiences through vlogs, sharing valuable RV tips, captivating travel stories, and a glimpse into our nomadic life. Whether we're rolling down the road in the motorhome, exploring in our Jeep TJ, cruising on our e-bikes, or working on the homestead flower farm, there's always something happening.
“Sunday Solutions” drops on Sundays at 10 AM, RV technical tips and tricks.
“Life on the Homestead” catch those videos Tuesday at 7 PM .

Excellent Video and a Great Help! Don’t get caught doing that at the campground, they can kick you out!
😂
I think almost everybody is RVing in the snow this year, no matter what state you live in or are camping in
Nice informative video. What about water/well? Thank you.
Thank you for watching. We had the water company put in a meter. Randy rented a machine and dug the 2,500+ foot long trench. I helped him install the water line pipe and he backfilled as I connected each piece all the way up the knoll.
you talking too much just show use that you do not talk about it so bad
What?
I believe he said Randy talks too much and to just show "us" what he does, not talk about it so much. We appreciate all views and comments and will take that into consideration. I wouldn't expect much to change though 😉
Thanks for watching, hope my translation below helped 😀
I would remove the pipe insulation so the heat can get to the pipes.
Thanks for your suggestion. We seem to be doing pretty good at this point...it went down to 9 degrees last night 😱
What park is this if I may ask
This is the Y Not Flower Farm homestead.
We have a 2014 Open Road 34 QFA which seems to be identical to yours so your videos are quite helpful. The previous owner lived in Canada and had installed a heater, thermostat and temperature sending unit in the wet bay so the heater would automatically kick on. Unfortunately, I don’t have power at my storage location so we have to pink the pipes. We’re in central West Virginia and just shoveled over a foot of snow off of the roof, very unusual weather so far. When we travel through Eastern Tenn., we enjoy staying at Warrior’s Path State Park. Keep the solutions coming.
Glad you’re finding the videos helpful. Keep Chasing the Dream ✌🙌💕
I do not envy your cold situation.
@@RamblinRoadies I’m not digging it much either 😂 besides it’s snowing now and supposed to -4 tomorrow with windchills uggggh
@ChasingtheDreamRV we're 64 in San Diego today, climbing to 86 on Thursday. Unseasonably warm. Low is in the 40's at night. Is the Tiffin not mobile right now?
31 this morning in Garibaldi Oregon. Have two electric heaters and two propane on to take the chill off this morning. Thanks for the idea about the heat lamp.
@@robertmcallister4560 you are welcome, the heat lamp is more of a redundancy in case the ceramic shuts down for some odd reason and it gives a helping hand also. Thanks for watching!
I'm a retired truck fleet mechanic, when I hear people talk about class A engine problems with pretty low miles its hard to believe. When I've been around trucks with several hundred thousand miles with very little repairs ( before the regen exhaust and DPF ) I'd never buy anything with that . I'll stay with my old F250 7.3 diesel and pull a 5th wheel. Just my opinion.
@@Mike-j6i4u I think most of the problems stem from the fact that most owners use their coach once or twice a year which as you probably know diesels like to run not sit. We’ve had very little engine problems other than an scr replacement which was a recall covered by Cummins and a seized a/c compressor. Other than that she’s been great. We’ve got 77k on her now and she still purs like a kitten. I agree tho we could do a lot better without govt regulations. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

Another helpful video for our full time RV adventure we’re planning to Yellowstone this summer. Thank you so much! 2Miles2Go,
Thanks for watching and for your kind words. We hope it helps you enjoy your trip to Yellowstone! ✌🙌💕
@ I’m sure it will!
Nice......Very nice.
I'd like to see your shooting range.
@@andyrix54 we’ll get some video of the actual range…but there won’t be any action because all the platforms get crazy about showing big scary things ( can’t even say the words without getting into trouble)
@@ChasingtheDreamRV "Preciate it. I enjoyed your video, thanks.
Very nice piece of property, that would keep me busy in the winter and travel the rest of the year.
It's a great balance! Thanks for watching!!
I have always wondered what you guys did in the off season. Thanks for taking us along and looking forward to seeing more. Get that fire rolling next time, looks like your putting out smoke signals 😂 #homestead #homesteadlife #chevy #badboymowers
Thanks for watching and we are working on that part of the life..✌🙌💕
Not sure what the above comment was talking about. I thought your video was clear as possible considering the tight space of the repair area. I have your same model only a 2019 version. They’ve done away with the floor peddle and instead added a hand lever near the turn signal. Guess they seen this issue a few times before and re-engineered it (or it reduced cost for themselves 😉) Thanks for continuing with Sunday Solutions I’ve learned a lot from them and have fixed/maintained a few things by watching them…
You are 💯 percent correct what the video doesn’t show is how tight that area is even with the seat all the way back. Thanks for the kind words. I do not/will not do negative or nasty comments on this channel so “that guy” was removed. Have a great day!
What about the belt? How often should you change the belt? It looks like a real pain to change it .
@@robcacchio6774 I just inspect it every service you really shouldn’t need a new one unless something breaks like the ac compressor. Probably would change it around 75k
Does the light under the step have to work
@@garywalton5135 I wouldn’t think so as long as there is power to the step, that’s all tied into control board under there so if your step and light aren’t working and bulb is good I would guess control board is bad?
Its like nobody has ever heard of bleach!
Great place to visit, or stay for a while. You couldn't have had better hosts !
We couldn't agree more!! We are pretty fond of Lori and Pat 😉
New to RV life (Just bought an Airstream)but not new to Westgate River Ranch. Have used our timeshare there a couple of times and I agree with Randy that it is very pricey. Although we have been there but were never aware of the difference between Westgate and the River Ranch RV Park. By accident while we were staying at Westgate we stumbled on the back side of the RV Park and it was during the Christmas time of year and everything was decorated for the holiday and it was beautiful. So glad you explained the difference. Loved Randy's point of view and have to say he is a very special man as he has a way of not offending anyone but gets his point across. Thanks for all the info.
Glad we were informative. And thank you for watching. Randy is certainly special 😉
Always wondered how much a project like that costed. Thanks for sharing this!
It will vary depending on circumstances. At least the basic expenses are outlined to give someone an idea what the infrastructure looks like to build. Thanks for watching 😉
Ok, do you do this after cleaning, or dumping your tanks ? Or before dumping ? I guessing after .
@@djc3949 after dumping tanks…
Hello, so I just got a new fuse for my Sharp carousel and I plug it up and put it to start and then it goes right off after. Is it because my fuse isn't powerful enough or it might be something else?
We're sorry we wouldn't really know to trouble shoot for you. We hope it worked out okay for you. Thanks for watching!!
Very nice
Thanks for watching! 👍
Uhm depends
Absolutely!! Thanks for watching and responding!!
I have the pen version of their natural gas and LP leak detector and that thing is great. This one would definitely come in handy for hot tent camping with the heaters. Yall have a nice RV. On my bucket list to get one some day.
Thanks for watching. Good luck in checking off your bucket list 😀
8 ft lbs for oil plug
Thanks for watching
Started to watch you channel and I’m extremely pleased with your content. I plan on being a future van lifer and the quartzite video was the reason I’m a fan. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much for saying so. We work hard to put out decent material so it certainly helps to have someone appreciate the effort. Good luck to you on van life. Wheels Roll...Dreams Unfold ✌🙌💕
In my 2005 safari simba, i have the older black plastic version i think its 1870 or something and i want to check the fuse as well. Does the panel pop out on the older version of this as well?
Unfortunately we don't have an answer for that. Good luck in getting it fixed.
@ChasingtheDreamRV I just went to Costco and ordered one of their electrical toaster ovens that plug into tbe wall. Let the next owner deal with that!
Just found them on Amazon for about $29 for 4.
Thanks for letting us know and thanks for watching. Keep chasing the dream!!
Fuel filter change-- every 500 hours.
Thanks for the info and for watching ✌🙌💕
I have found that the oil filter is much easier to remove on this particular generator when taking off the front panel of the generator instead of going underneath to that little trap door. Supposedly having that door is fot easier access to the oil filter but I don't find that to be the case for me anyways.
Thank you for the suggestion.
Thank you for this! I have the Same Gen! It's in my mobile pet grooming trailer! It is past time for the fuel filter to be replaced on my gen. Love this gen!!
We hope you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!! ✌🙌💕
Love the dishwasher!! I also have a 2014 and I'm taking a trip to Red Bay in the Spring. Did Cody custom craft the front cabinet panel to match or did you buy it that way from Tiffin? If he matched it, I am shocked he was able to do such a good job matching up that old stain. Looks great!!
@@drewstyring1446 yes he did, he also did some trim work around our fireplace (We had to go to a different size, because the old one broke)and it’s matches perfectly looks like it’s from the factory. He is a very honest guy and takes pride in his work.
@ChasingtheDreamRV I actually saw your post on the Red Bay Open Roll Call group about that after I asked here! It looks great!! Do you have the part number or model number for the dishwasher you can share? I may order it from tiffin and have Cody do the same thing. Thank you in advance!
@@drewstyring1446 Cody sourced ours thru Tiffin, I would contact him he sometimes has new units that others take out of their coaches to add storage instead of having a dishwasher. That may save you some money and units are usually never used. There were none available at the time so we purchased thru Tiffin. Ours is a Fisher & Paykel same as factory would install. It uses I think 1.8 gallons of water a wash and it has operated flawless. It has been a game changer for us living full time. Cody did our install and all the wood trim and had someone else there to do the plumbing, which is minimal. He took care of all of that. I would contact him soon and he could keep an eye out for a unit that someone removes for you if you want to go that route.
@@ChasingtheDreamRV thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it. Your coach looks amazing with the ungrades. Well done 😍
Thanks for the honest breakdown of your expenses. We are getting ready to start this same process in East Tenn. Your skill at building the retaining wall is amazing. Is there anything you would do differently if you had to start over?
Thanks for watching. We don't think we would change anything right now. The pad, lift station and shed have worked out great. 😍
That's a little high for me I have 40 acres in northern ,Michigan I was going to put a mobile home there and was informed by the seller that I had to have a concrete slab Also I need to put a road in and a septic system and I would like a shed The mobile home itself costs 100 k If I have to pay another 75k for prep I might as well stay in an apartment but I grew up there and love the solitude I just didn't realize how costly it will be😏
I wouldn't be too discouraged. If you already own the acreage, it can be used as collateral towards your mobile home to free up the cash to do the septic and driveway. Most places won't require a deposit because of the value of the land. And please keep in mind, our build was a bit more expensive just because of the location we picked for the RV pad was over 1/2 mile up the mountain. Thanks for watching!!
We almost moved to Florida, but decided to jump into RV Travel instead. That way we could avoid hurricane season. Thanks for showing people the dangers.
We sold our sticks and bricks in Florida to travel the States but seem to end up back in Florida way more than expected. This time due to Randy's dad passing away and his mother's health. It wasn't the best decision to stay and very blessed to have weathered the storm safely. Things could have gone sideways (literally) with all the tornadoes that were present that day. Hope your chasing your dreams!!!
About to do this too. Will be in a travel trailer, but want to get all the infrastructure in place and will build the house later on. Our first septic install quote (for a 5 bedroom septic, pressurized system) was $25k, not including electrical or permits. Going to meet the electrician and a different excavation company tomorrow to get more understanding of costs and site plan. We'll be doing a 10x20 shed, insulated, with minisplit as well, plus our washer and dryer. We've had a shed quote for about $4500 (that's delivered and built on site), but that doesn't include insulation or anything else, it's just the shell. Hoping to keep the total shed buildout to around $10 to $12k or less. We had budgeted $12k for water lines (we have a shared well already) and $12k for electrical work, plus $20k for septic install. Not sure if we'll hit those numbers or not. But we are also doing far less distance than you guys did. Maybe 300 to 400 feet for electrical/water piping each (same trench) and our graveled driveway will be about 250ft long total (u-shaped driveway off the 'main' road). Plus it's all flat land. Overall costs are going to determine whether we build a house next year or have to wait an extra year to save up. :) Great idea on putting extra pipes for future internet/cables though. We will be on Starlink for now, but heard that some day/year in the future cable internet will arrive.
Thanks for watching. Hope your infrastructure installation goes smoothly. It will be worth it once you're done and living in the rig!!
Do you have or can you create a video on replacing the fuel filter? Like the engine oil, this is recommended to be replaced every year.
@@rweissen not yet but I will on next change
Absolutely love this family and spot. Definitely at the top of my list!
Oh they were truly the best hosts we have stayed with. If Pete's watching, Randy and I say "Hello"
Great video
Thanks for watching. Hope it was helpful!
I do have a question after watching you change the oil. You showed the two fuel filters and I noticed as you panned back to the oil pan there was another ORANGE FILTER about the size of a regular car oil filter. I am not sure what that is. Can you tell me what that is for? One other question, have you ever changed your air brake air dryer cartridge? If so, is there a video on that?
@@mikefitzpatrick5209 not sure about orange filter I believe that’s the oil filter for the engine your seeing? Last time I did air dryer I had a shop do it as it has to be taken apart on my unit, some of the newer units have a spin on cartridge that’s the same as an oil filter, hope that helps
@@ChasingtheDreamRV Thank you Randy. After watching a couple more videos of yours, I realized that little orange filter was the transmission oil filter. Good to know about the air brake cartridge dryer filter. DO you pull your air brake cables on a regular basis?
@@mikefitzpatrick5209 yup I forgot about that one…I was advised pulling of the cables is not needed if your air dryer is working there should be no moisture to release. Different back in the day when we used to pull them everyday
Finally, I found a you tube channel with VERY HELPFUL tips and maintenance videos. THANK YOU
for a 5th wheel would you try to keep the truck and trailer combined under 40 or just the camper... or maybe the camper plus the width of the truck? (parked)
@@QuadTap if you like the majority of your stays in state or national parks yes under 40 on rig, parking truck usually isn’t an issue because most parks have places if you can’t get it into your site…IMO
Needed this. Gonna help me get off the ground on my build. Unfortunately, I’m in CA so already know some of the contractors are gonna screw me.
Well I hope they don't!!! Good luck getting your infrastructure installed
Great Job have the same Genne on our Monaco 41 dft. Oil plug same issue had to use a breaker bar first just to get loose, Lol appreciate the video. Happy RVing.
Thanks 👍 Happy RVing right back atcha 😉
