Cascade Ride Adventures
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ต.ค. 2022
Welcome to Cascade Ride Adventures! This is a personal channel where I, Todd Shillam, upload videos of my motorcycle and overland adventures throughout Washington State, mostly in wilderness areas, national forests, and national parks. I also publish motorcycle how-to videos, moto-camping tips, and more!
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: I just recently started motorcycle riding in July this year (although I rode many years ago). I own a 2022 Royan Enfield Himalayan, and I prefer adventure riding (both on and off-road). I also own a 2013 Jeep Wrangler.
I am also no stranger to the outdoors in Washington State. I have been an avid backpacker throughout my adult life having done all 95 miles around Mt. Rainier on the Wonderland Trail back in 2010. I have also hiked the Elwha River Trail in the Olympic National Forest, and I have hiked many parts of the Pacific Crest Trail here in Washington State and more.
OFF-ROAD NAVIGATION: I use OnX Off-Road desktop and mobile app to navigate offline.

Did you make it all the way to lonesome
@@tonyruiz9481 yes! We walked down the small ramp and down the the shore...the lake was completely covered by snow. It was very pretty as the sun was out.
Nice video was a fun trip ❤
i gave it my all damnit. hahah
Thank you!!! It was a fantastic show this year! We had a blast and will certainly be back next year.
Total patience there nice 👍
Looked extra slick this year
About noon it started sleeting/snowing!
@cascaderideadventures bet it was cold as fuc# went last year and it was pretty miserable
Clown! No idea what he is doing 😂
Very nice!!
Hey that my boy Peirce. I live with this braddah. This toyota is no joke.
So when KOE does come up I’m guessing this is the course… did anything change from last year
@@extremeoffroad9807Yes! It's the route. I have not been there before; but the folks that work on the Boat Ramp and race route dug out an entirely new track--super deep holes. The Boat Ramp has been significantly improved, as well as the VIP area. If you attend, be sure to wear you mud boots. It's going to be a really cool event this year.
@ I don’t race it but I love going to them in so excited
That green and orange toyota sounded tired lol
Ya it did. I'll never understand how you spend all that money to build a bad ass rig but you leave it carburated.
Wooo hooo koe2024 🤘🤘

Leaf springs and boggers for the win!
Thanks for taking and posting videos! I had a blast trying to get up the boat ramp!
You're most welcome! I had a blast filming everyone that came out yesterday. I'll be out there at the KOE event and hope to get more video.
To bad you missed the drop into the hole
I was trying to get there! I had walked the trail earlier and didn't think anyone would even try it...that was until I saw somebody was actually going to give it a shot. Incredible wheeling no doubt.
Was my buddy and I, my first time wheelin 🤙🤙@@cascaderideadventures
How many hours did this section take your group to complete. I have a small group that wants to run this section mid September. Looks like we should be able to run the whole section in the day light in one day.
Short...easily done in almost half a day (6 hours). There's quite a bit of easy pavement driving north from Ellensburg before reaching gravel...which Lions Rock isn't very far once hit dirt. Most of S3 is not technical until you get to the washouts...take your time. WORN just did a recovery a couple weeks ago there. After the washouts, easy drive on gravel to Beehive Reservoir. Be sure to do the part of S3 between Wenatchee and Cashmere...the whoop-de-dos are fun.
I’m planning on doing section 3 next weekend. I know it starts in Ellenbsurg for me since I’m going north to cashmere. Just wondering if you go through lions rock first or through beehive reservoir. Trying to map it out
You'll drive up to the peak of Lion Rock Mountain first. You won't get to Beehive Reservoir until shortly after the washouts...which is near the end of S3. The part of S3 between Wenatchee and Cashmere is fun...lots of whoop-de-dos.
@@cascaderideadventures thanks! I’m mapping it out in OnX Offroad. Where do you recommend camping?
@@jo23sue23 Lion Rock veiwpoint is best...but the wind may be a factor. If so, drop back towards Ellesnburg down to the grove of trees where we camped in the video (trees provide good shelter from the wind)....it has a nearby pit toilet in the thick of the trees at that spot, or there is a nearby forest bathroom just down the dirt road further towards Ellensburg (within sight of the grove of trees). Otherwise, there are a couple dispersed spots further down along the ridge north of Lions Rock and then there is a dispersed camping spot across from the Beehive Reservoir--just not quite as scenic. NOTE: There is no camping at the reservoir itself. Great trout fishing however if you brought your gear. Not much dispersed camping from Beehive to Cashemere.
Washout section is so much scarier in person. Yesterday was my first time.
There's good reason to have some respect for the washouts; a rolled over vehicle was just recovered down the hill this week. Glad you made it safely across and that you enjoyed your trip!
That's a big group. Nice job.
So I just bought two of the newest version of the light, and I went all out, motion sensors, solar panels, basically all the accessories. It's clear they have changed the tripod design, at least for this model...but not necessarily for the better. The foot incorporates a small "hole" on the side to accept a "stake" but the stake simply looks like a small allen wrench, not pointed and very short. This in itself may still work, but the foot is a hard plastic that will undoubtedly break apart the first time it's put under any sort of stress, it's a very slick and brittle plastic, so brittle in fact that one of my tripods had a broken foot out of the box. I had an inop motion detector and they shipped me a new one immediately, so kudos on that, and otherwise the lights seem amazing, but I haven't seen any movement on how this foot will be repaired or replaced, but in all honest, I don't see them lasting a single camping session and feel that I'm ultimately going to have to figure out my own tripod modification to affix some sort of metal eyelet to the bottom of the foot to secure a proper stake, and then possibly a larger one to the central mast in some fashion to allow me to secure the overall light system to a solid object on my overland camper to prevent it from possibly getting quickly snatched up if I happen to be in a more populated area, sad, but precautions are a sound move with gear that's a bit pricey. great info, keep up the good work. I'd love to see any other modifications folks have made to these systems
Do you have the camera mounted or are you holding it?
I have an Insta360 X3 camera attached to an invisible stick...it is attached to my indoor driver side door handle and extends out my window above the cab. When I film, the camera films 360 degrees....I reframe the video clips using the desktop app back at home. You can find out more about the latest Insta360 action camera here: th-cam.com/video/utIKv7KNOYo/w-d-xo.html
Looking great guys!
Very cool
Messing around and found out!!! Sorry but it’s never a good idea to play around 1 arm riding in the dirt setting down. SHIT HAPPENS and quickly.
It does look like I was riding with one arm with the 360 video...I wish I was that talented...but no. I actually had both hands on the handlebars. It's that moondust on Section 5...coming down Cooper Mountain and caught some of it on the right side of the rut and front wheel just dropped in suddenly! $#!+ does happen quick in dirt...a few times on WABDR for me. Took a really hard fall on Chumstick Mountain just as I neared the top too--hit some loose sand and the bike went over the edge..for real! I went completely over the handlebars and landed really hard on the chest--had bruised ribs for weeks. Very glad I had the Icon vest armor on--that saved my life.
@@cascaderideadventures Sorry you crashed it just happens so fast . I fell on a cliff on the PCT between Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie and it was fast slipped on a piece of slate over the cliff I went. did that end your ride ?
Crazy, my son and I were at that exact spot 9-16!!
That's awesome! Perfect weekend to visit Bethel Ridge too--clear weather and wasn't to chilly.
@@cascaderideadventures Heck yes, we all got lucky :)
Amazing, that made me feel like I was just there!
Makes me want to do Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6!
Nice drive!
It was an amazing first day of the WA BRD! Camp was a great little spot. Unfortunately it's that time of year and a camp fire was out of the question with all the fire's around the state but nonetheless it was a great first day!
One of my Favourite bike
Yay! was so much fun!!!
Luci, we (Paige, Cynthia, and I) had a blast tagging along with all of you and Jeepin for the afternoon!
Like the 360, specially exterior. Really gives some great options for viewing.
I love these videos bud..
Perfect--I like making them and I am glad to hear that others enjoy watching them! 👍
Thanks for the awesome visual💯I plan on doing a run up there soon and now I kinda know what to expect 👌🏾
Mike, thanks and I am glad you enjoyed it! Give it a few more weeks for the snow to melt a little more and it should be perfect up there. I enjoy watching your wheeling videos too. I do want to visit Walker Valley, but I think I'll be heading to Tahuya ORV park on my next outing.
Hey love the footage. I was just about to check out this area. I was at cascade river road last week. Up to 35-40 inches of snow at the deepest parts. Would you mind dropping me Google map point of your favorite trail so far this winter? I want to go snowheel and I think checking out the spots you just went to is a safe bet. So far my Hilux surf could handle 30 inches of old snow. 2 chains. Powder is so much easier to drive in, wish that area has more of it. Thank you!
I like Gifford-Pinchot National Forest, but they close some roads during winter (so be sure to check their website). They also close some roads for Washington Sno-Parks and snowmobile use, but still lots of great areas to explorer. I like Elbe Hills and the area south of Mt. Rainier by Ashford as it's pretty close. I hear there are some forest roads open near Mt. St. Helen's that have snow and I am interested in checking that out sometime.
Does this music play in the car on the drive too ❤😁
Love it!!!!! We started the #PNWGnomeHunt on the Carbon river side 😊
Oh please tell me more about this PNW Gnome Hunt!
@@cascaderideadventures PNW GnomeHunt you tube channel exploring the trails in Washington especially in winter weather conditions giving people an update on what the roads look like what type of vehicles can get down there how far they can get down them and then at the very end as far as we can go while they were in the forerunner or the jeep we will leave a gnome hiding somewhere with a note protected in a plastic bag for someone to find, tag us and keep 🏔️✨💜 there are two bags of knomes we’ve left at spots so far!
My husband and I found your gift at the trailhead! They accompanied us on our journey of a polar plunge .... followed by a fire and are now cozied up under our tree ready for our girl's snuggles! Thaank you!!! Also, great trail shots! What a beautiful ride!! 🤙🌱🥰
#socool love the music 🎶 it was such a gorgeous day with the yellow peak 🌲
Ahhhh Jeremy’s favorite part!!! Seeing the snow and driving on the dirt roads!!! #superfun #Toddhunt2022
I’m glad you got footage of the gorgeous scenery!!! I went straight to rock hounding and didn’t even look up 😂
We did!!! And it was #supercool ⛰Thanks for inviting us to join you!!! We love our #Toddhunts 😜
Kewl. How is the video so stable?
Got the new GoPro 11 with HyperSmooth technology. I just tucked the GoPro selfie stick in my backpack side pocket and hiked as I normally do to get that third-person footage. It turned out surprisingly good.
Third person was cool, like the music too. Can see you spent a lot more time on this one. Can't wait to start working on these and comparing.
Dude that is Awesome! I need to do that trail again.
