Extreme Microbial Life in the Great Salt Lake!
We're back at the Great Salt Lake! Here we find some #brineshrimp #algae and #brineflies. These little brine shrimp, brine flies and algae are all hugely important for the ecosystem in general, as they are a foundational layer in a larger food chain for migratory birds.

I picked up one of these at the local Goodwill store for my 5 year old thinking it might be a nice, cheap, way for him to get into looking at stuff close up. Sadly, this is a steaming piece of garbage. Absolutely, 100%, DO NOT buy this. There are several that go under different names, but are basically the same piece of shit. It's completely worthless and will only turn your kids off of ever wanting to use a real microscope. Spend some more money, get something better.

Is rain water is safe to drink?

I've kept some larger green ones, and was unexpectedly surprised by their rather complex behaviour, I noticed that they seemed to lay eggs synchronised in swarms and attached them in crevices. I have no idea how animals that seemingly lacked even sensory organs managed to do that. The fact that they are spread by birds makes me wonder if they would lay eggs on the legs of resting waterfowl.

You’d need to get the rainwater drop directly on a clean and sterile glass microscope plate or the continuation could come from anywhere including the bottle, jar or pool in your case.

The mainstream camp repeats what they're told. That spontaneous creation isnt possible. Now see the red brown yellow ' proteins '. Scope that every day, with the dark bits in sterile jar. Watch the black torroidal rings that are not air bubbles. Get pictures of a halfway point where a microbe is forming out of the variable proteins. This proves life forms without a progenitor or dna. Then your mainstream camp is speechless.

When rain belongs in a globe actually its unsafe to drink here you can drink a rain cause it: 1. contains toxic PFAS 2. it has harmful bacteria 3. when you hold a cup in a rain water place a microscope like you do it 400x it will appear parasites 4. it also had viruses These clues help you that you need to CAREFULL of rain water because if you do, you can get sick or die cause you mistreated rain water.

5:48 About the drought resistance of their eggs, I started up my brine and fairy shrimp colonies lately, and I believe both 7 (few fairy shrimp species) and 9 (brine shrimp) years old dry stored eggs hatched just fine, and they contained some ostracods too, although the hatch rates of ostracod eggs were already greatly reduced. The small species I've yet to bother identifying but the largest one is some species of Chlamydotheca I think:)

I would like to add that the shells of these little friends are studied as they are slightly different from species to species. In geological layers they give important indications on changes in the quantity of water in the past. The most important collection of ostracod shells in the world is located in the Natural History Museum of Geneva.

For kids: get a stereomicroscope. No sample preparation and it's easier to figure out what the sample image mean. With compound microscope, the image (if you get any decent quality) is still abstract for most kids. Maybe when they get older and after viewing a lot of microscopy on YT for sample preparation.

I found ostracods in a flooded foundation, I don't know how they got there, most likely birds brought them there. They are orange and quite large, about 2-3 mm. And this is very strange, but they do not eat vegetables and fruits, but only meat and boiled eggs.
