We are a troop of 7 monkeys, headed by the Queen and King. The Queen monkey has been hooked on all things crafty since learning to crochet at the age of 7. The King monkey is affectionately known by many as the ‘quilt helper’. He can always be counted on to carry the boxes, reach things on high shelves, and hold up the long quilts for pictures. The rest of the monkeys help in various ways.
We feel that in order for you to transform your thoughts into your beautiful, one-of-a-kind handmade items, you need to be given quality supplies as well as friendly support and help. We thrive on providing both.

    Diamonds are a girl's best friend. I love them in quilts. Marking the join line is essential. Eyeballing for mere mortals will not cut it. Another useful alternative tool is Marti Michell's Deluxe corner trimmer. It has line up and marking dot that I find helpful for sewing diamond offsets. It's "Deluxe" because it has an angle for all the blocks to include the triangle in square. Perfect results every time. I mark the seam, then pin it on a pinable surface and glue baste. Everything stays put at the machine. Many ways to skin the quilt cat. (I don't press my seams open). If you like to make lots of 45 degree diamonds, the Creative Grids Diamond Dimension ruler as more visuals to allow for perfect cuts on the top, bottom and on the 45 for every block. It's a godsend. There is not other ruler out there that is better marked. Also it is perfect for mitering you borders on your quilts.

    @notesfromleisa-land 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The beauty of these rulers and the blocks is that because there is so much bias in the underlying cut pieces, they use an oversize build and precision trim down. For any blocks with high degree of bias, this combo technique is one that I have universally adopted. It makes my quilting experience more enjoyable because the final product is perfect every time. No toeing in or out on the edges or loss of points where needed. I also migrated these practices to construction a pickle dish block by upsizing the outer brackets...all the difference in the world. Also, their seaming technique of putting concave on the bottom helps ensure that the feed dogs take the slack out of the concave without puckering. I hope that your viewers who are tentative about curves become fearless---because these techniques are foolproof--and you don't have to invest a ton of seat time to get great results. You need about two blocks to get proficient.

    On this video, you pressed both seams before the Y-seam, down onto the fabric on top of the orange, piece #1. Saying it another way, piece number 1 dies not have to fold on the seam when piece 2 and 3 are attached to it. Is that an intentional part of the process? Does that intentional pressing help with the final seam, the Y part?

    • @5littlemonkeysquilting
      @5littlemonkeysquilting 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. Pressing you seams away from each other helps them nest in the end.
