Camouflage working in the start

Those Daimler Benz motors sound incredible!

I can't speak with certainty to the 109, but in any other WW2 warbird I have heard or experienced first hand, that "whistle" has never been the supercharger. It has invariably been an aerodynamic sound caused by airflow over or through a scoop ( e.g. F4U ) or gun port ( P51D or K ). It is most certainly a cool sound, and always sends a bit of a chill up my spine !

Terrifying.

Running a stationary plane on the ground at full revs with no wind rushing through the radiator would burn up the engine.

a beautiful aircraft, little appreciated or overshadowed by contemporary fighters. But when you see the results in combat in its comfort zone, "Low level" and in the hands of good pilots, it was a machine that did not forgive its rival. The Soviets "Voyenno-vozdushnye sily, VVS" took great advantage of it and had great aces PS: thank you for showing these magnificent images

That sound must‘ve been absolutely terrifying to hear back then.

I always thought the P-39 had a canon in the nose cone. The plane is beautiful though!!!

Sitting in my office in Celle, Germany, I heard this sound outside. Quickly rushed out to see it flying overhead. Glad I didn't miss it.

Errrmmm.... that sounded really like a Merlin to me. If so, that aircraft was a Bouchon and striclty speaking, not an Me.109.

Bf 109 is a legend 👌, way ahead with its desighn for the time and even today it's still a true flyer for any survivors, this one sounds sooo damn healthy and I love it, was not full speed though but rather maybe half of what it can do, man I love airplanes since the day I opened my eyes in this lifetime, I've built heaps of model aircraft too and at 63 I don't even have one to show due to somthing that happened to my massive collection yrs ago and have never built one ever since because of that, one of my all time favorites is the bf 109, I know the history of all 2nd ww aircraft from all over whe world and the 109 was probably the hardest worker of them all and has seen service from the beggining to the end of the war on just about every front for Germany 👍, the only problem with them was there landing gear setup because while on the ground the pilots could not see the runway until its tail wheel lifted just before take off and many noob pilots met there demise due to that alone lol 👀, but once in the air it was a beast in good hands, Adolf Galand was pro in hese yellow nosed bf 109 as wer many other German pilots ✌

When i was a lad we always called them ME109s. Messerschmidts. What on earth is all this "BF" stuff these days?

Reminds me of the Movie Battle of Britton where the being scenes where the Germans attacked the french airfield echelon formation where the rear 109's were 100yards back and higher and front 109's mowing the lawn. Nasty tactic for the AA gunners you hear them but unless wise focus on the rear so when you open up the front 109's have you cold as you did not notice them. My uncle told me that was a common tactic and learnt early you here them but don't see them stay low in the hole.

Somebody decided to avoid the lunacy from the start, using ME and BF 109. All the air aces of the Luftwaffe referred to their aircraft as ME's not BF's. At least most or all of the 300 Club if I remember correctly.

nearly 40 years ago there was a big show in wels aerodrome in upper austria, with low fly overs from the concorde, the bf 109 and the me 262. unforgettable

That pilot is the luckiest guy on earth. I'd rather fly a 109 than sleep with the hottest supermodel any day, given a choice.
