I am not overwhelmed with the modern peening jig, so I have just ordered a flat German one to try instead. As I understand this the peened edge should be thin enough when to move with the thumb nail. With the jig this is not the case, but with a hammer it could be!

I tried to improve the hafting angle with that method on my scythes. I wonder how to do so properly if at the same time we've got to set the ring so high? If the ring is near the end of the snath, then the tang can barely move sideways... :-(

I am in a different context - more like a mediterranean situation, but still all very useful information to me and my 'Italian garden' that is heavily dependent on boxwood plants. Pleased that you made the point about blossom and berries only forming on wood that is two years old or more . So in other words , a hedge cut every year will provide nothing in the way of food for either insects or birds. Very few people , even country dwellers seem to know about this . Farmers are driven by economic factors to cut a hedge low to the ground and annually , not only is it then worthless as a winter food supply but it also becomes worthless as nesting sites for small birds , any nest that gets built in such a spot will be raided by magpies . I am seventy four . I have lived and worked in the country all my life , and have seen many species that used to be common on the farms diminish or disappear for this reason .

Great presentation. Their is very little information about hedgerows and hedge laying here in America. So it's nice to get this kind of information. Q: is there a good list for hedge plants; especially for livestock fodder? We are about to buy 20 acres and want to stay away from Barb and poly wire.

Great video to watch. I'm intrigued by this natural method of stock proofing a field. I'm from Northern Ireland and had never seen it until I was in Stoke on Trent along a canal. February past I had a digger cut over grown hedges cut down to 10 feet moving into this winter I will be laying 80 meters. Thanks for sharing!
