Too bad yours is broken on arrival. But there are lots of great info out there about 858D hot air station. They are all very similar. Check out circuit schematics and other videos available about how this unit works. It's pretty straight forward to diagnose any issues, and unless heater coil is blown, probably not expensive to fix. Mine has heater element going full tilt regardless of temperature setting. Probably issue is with faulty triac.

He is not the only one on there. I heard a woman on there also, I think her callsign was KD4BVG.

I worked him just a couple days ago from Oregon. I went back to his CQ knowing it was a recording, but I figured why not. Im not 10-10, either. He came back to me on my first call, and gave me a 59. I said thanks and 73 - short and sweet. Im only working 100W with a wire dipole. I actually listen for him every day about noon and I can tell if I have propagation down south! sort of works like a beacon... From hearing other people's experiences - I guess im lucky. He does seem the 11M type, though, I agree.

2016 and he's still calling

I ran into this idiot while working from VP2. He was doing the same thing displayed here. I listened to him calling CQ and repeatedly ignoring responses from every compass point. I sent him an email to try to help him with his receiver problems. Then he answered my response to a CQ and acted like he couldn't hear most of what I said. Afterward I received an email diatribe, from him, accusing me of not sending the /VP2 after my US callsign. Claimed he was going to contact the FCC and report me for operating illegally and a bunch of other nonsense about his wife being an Extra and him never talking DX because the hobby has gone to hell. I called him a jackass and erased him from my logbook but not my notes!

He is 20 miles from me I get to hear him on ground wave EVERY damn day. I tune by and Yep he is on. The sad part is he is maybe 35 miles from the FCC monitoring station. 20 years ago Uncle charlie would have been watching him like a hawk.

He's got a lot of class... it just happens to be low. :-)
