Alexander Grigori Arutiunian, also known as Arutunian, Arutyunyan, Arutjunjan, Harutyunian or Harutiunian (23 September 1920 - 28 March 2012), was a Soviet and Armenian composer and pianist, widely known for his 1950 Trumpet Concerto. A professor at Yerevan State Conservatory, he was recognized with many awards for his work, including the Stalin Prize in 1949 and People's Artist of the USSR in 1970, as well as numerous honors from his homeland of Armenia.

@@brennentaggart494 I practice it now. I think that it is not so hard concerto, but when you listen you think thats it very hard. Only my opinion. Anyway I will include it on video of top10 concertos
@@koniiri I agree, It is a fun concerto, but it sounds harder than it really is (doesn't mean it's not challenging haha!)
@@brennentaggart494 yes. 3'rd movement is quite difficult to remembering and to play all notes right (for me as orchestral bassist it's harder twice haha)
this concerto is very underrated because of how popular his 2nd one is... its so good but so unknown :(

@@Dcastleg it seems like very hard but I play his full Carmen, and would say it very comfortable for playing, so maybe you should try some Proto

I think that Bottesini has harder pieces than Cappricio di Bravura including his Grande Allegro alla Mendelssohn and Nel Cor Piu Mon Sento variations just to name a few. Additionally I think that Adres Martin's Temperamental should be on this list. But this is still nonetheless a great list and video!

I find nel cor easier than bravura, Alla Mendelssohn is definitely harder though.

Why is no2 this piece? It doesn't look particularly technically challenging? But for the whole list, I'd argue "easier" pieces are harder just because of how hard it is to make beautiful music with the bass!
@@nathanbegel4505 did you mean no 2 from the end or from the begining? If you mean Misek's polonaise, I think it's difficult because of not comfortable positions and passages. anyway it's just a 9'th place so it's not so hard like next pieces
@@koniiri no I meant the variation and fugue, the misek piece looks daunting!

I think variations and fugue is hard like whole piece. it's very hard to play music like this with pianist and achieve good ensemble with him. soloist need perfect ritmical sense. and technically here is very much difficulties. you can hear whole piece on this channel too

Definitely difficult pieces and ones that I hope to perform some day. Ones that I know I never will are "Trittico per G.S." by Brian Ferneyhough and "Theraps" by Iannis Xenakis. Just figuring out what the page is saying is difficult enough
Nice choice, but in this video I include only pieces like musical form. As composition for solo with accompaniment. Maybe in future I will make solo for double bass tier-list and use one of this pieces you say. Thank you!
