Job Hunting in USA 2024
In today’s tech job market, landing an entry-level or new grad position feels like an endless maze. Applications vanish into ATS black holes, referrals are the only reliable way in, and recruiters or hiring managers rarely respond to LinkedIn messages or cold emails, no matter how many you send. At career fairs and conferences, attempts to network are often met with a polite “just apply online,” sending you back to square one. Add to that the grueling multi-round interview processes, and it’s no wonder students and recent grads are turning to unconventional methods-like standing outside offices with resumes in hand-just to ask if anyone’s hiring.

Ur brown n have an accent...can't help
Please make your resume ATS Friendly, myself am a hiring manager & we never personally review resume as ATS does for us that job. And our only job will be to interview the top 3 candidates
Look for cnbc report about Ghost / Fake Job Postings
feeling u broh 💔
Bro! Start your own business!
time is tough .. but keep on trying..
Same situation everywhere brother. >Sending CVs doesn’t work >Reaching out on LinkedIn doesn’t work >Applying directly via website doesn’t work Only personal recommendations work.!.!
What country are you in brother?
Kudos to you bro. The job market is really bad since end of 2023. Dont give up and don't loose hope that is the only advice one can give. Going back to India is also an option so don't forget that. It might hurt your ego or make you think what people will say but remember a man gotta eat.
He also has to remember he has to pay back 100k debt in dollars to the bank's
@@blazie2741 Yes, That maybe true too.
choose a different carrer. life goes on
one more interesting point i can speak about the West: many companies here in germany post jobs for political purpose. So it doesn´t matter what your qualifications are, your resume will directly end up in a dustbin. The companies here in germany are accountable to the state. So when a company fires an employee, they should have a reasonable ground. It also means that now a position is empty. That´s what the state is thinking. So indians who come from a totally different world have no idea how this western world works. This is one of these things. Many companies are not looking for an employee, but they have to post jobs on their career website due to their responsibility towards the state. Because most companies get provisions from the state. So many companies are just trying to dogde the bullet from the state. A person looking for a job has no idea about the "reality".
All the power to you. Abhiram.
It’s not students alone Abhi, I have 15 yrs experience and have been searching for a more than a yr for a job. During the pandemic, people were hiring like crazy. Lot of people got 2-3 jobs due to that (part time, contract and full time role). IMHO, remote work has to come to an end. Otherwise, things won’t change whatsoever. I have applied over 1500 jobs. If you have not tried, try applying for Canada roles.
Felt every word my friend. In the same exact situation as you, so trust me when I say I felt it. Honestly at one point I kept track of the applications, now don't even bother. It's like being a fresher in the tech world nowadays is being criminally wrong or something :'). Kudos to you for making this. All the best wishes to you.
Hope you find the opportunity you are looking for brother! You seem like a genuinely nice and smart guy.
bro give up 😭
Hope you land a job soon bro! wehn you do, do a make a video!
If you call it an endless loop/maze and glorify the idea that getting a job is impossible rn, it will be. You just need one position and that means just one referral (ie. just one person to believe in your skill) instead of making a roadshow where you're handing out your resume to people on the street, find someone who believes in your skill, ask them to get you the referral and go above and beyond to ace that interview. You just need one job man, be optimistic you can get it
The problem is everyone is doing software engineering or some kind of tech job. The pandemic really kill lot of job opportunities + the oversaturation of computer science/software engineer degree.
Brutal fact
Come back to India and do farming.
I went on this guys LinkedIn, he's worked at Accenture, Philips and now it says hes currently working at another company. Did you get laid off recently because it says "Sep 2024-Present"
Be strong brother. The market is like that in all the fields not just computer software/it. I'm in health industry and it sucks. And at 1:37 you nailed it lol. And all those auto e-mails for rejection come Friday night!
Hey buddy, send me a note and I will assist in whatever way I can.
The sucky reality is that there are too many software engineers and not enough high quality jobs. You’ve to demonstrate you’re the best. Consider adding your CP/Kaggle/leetcode ratings on your resume. This is one of the first filters that I use to screen out candidates. Also, if you’re a masters student having prior work ex at a big tech(FAANGMULA companies)would give you an edge. Odds are your previous employer would be happy to hire you back in the US
Come back to India, more jobs here
I am in your shoes and just know what is going on.
And with Trump, I cannot imagine being a fresher at this point. But don't lose hope and keep doing side projects and cloud certifications and your Linkedin profile as impressive as possible. I have been in your shoes four years back. How much ever people underplay the luck factor I think it is unfortunately out of our control but still very much exists. Don't be too hard on yourself, stay calm and do you thing. All the best!
Bro. FAANG is not the end of the world.
The real issue is that startups have gone dry. No funding amd hence less job openings. Try contract jobs and start small. Its ok to be sensible and stupid to lower your own value by giving resumes like what ir doing. Stop it.
Lesson: Don't waste your tuition money on US universities till the situation/economy improves.
End of US Big Tech
It’s not easy getting a data analytics job. It’s all done by co pilot now. You should switch to something like computer science
Brother, I do not know if this comment will reach you but in case it does: I sincerely wish you all the best in life and Pray to God you get a Satisfactory Job with Decent Salary & Good working condition. I am a student in 11th with goal of Civil Engineering as it intrests me. Seeing such things truly saddens me, I don't know much but I think you could try freelancing for sometime & look for jobs internationally, not just USA. Again, I wish you all the best, stay positive 💪👍
Dont take Civil engineering in greed of getting a Govt job...Please ex Civil engineer
@guptasagar694 Not greed, actual interest
Do some pushups. Drink some tea. You’ll be fine. Seriously. You’ve made it this far my guy. You’ll continue to make it .
Its an absolute shit show here, if anyone is planning to come to the US, I would advise you not to. If someones gonna pay off your loan then go for it. Otherwise, engineers back home are making pretty decent money. Once that loan kicks in, damn, the regret begins.
is it that bad? even if you get admits to top schools ? I'm thinking of not even sending my applications through. I don't consider myself as a particularly talented individual but rather fairly average. I think its better to work for a while, gain experience, better and upskill myself and then seek to do a masters abroad.
Bro I feel u completely bro. I'm not international but I get what you're saying
Bro I'm a hiring manager. The ats just gives a list to the hr and hiring manager. We review it
Idiot. Just update your resume and make your profile look much better. Not saying you should lie but definitely make yourself lookk much better than you are
you sound desperate and entitled, no one owes you a job
I am sorry to bring bad news. Most big companies have already figured out that hiring directly in india is about 30% the operating expenses whilst getting 60-70% the result. If I were you, I would skip the large corporations and instead hit those smaller to medium sized companies (under 1000 employees) who cannot logistically have operations in India. I will also encourage you to form a group and do a start up. Many companies need assistance with the following: 1. Process automation (DevOps, CICD, scalable cloud computation) 2. Custom Tools development so they could move out of excel macros etc to improve productivity. These will cost an arm and a leg going through consultants like TCS, CTS etc. For small to medium sized companies that is out of their means. Id encourage you guys to form a consulting LLC and be employees and employers if possible and thereby sponsor your own H1B (get consultation from an immigration lawyer) The job market will most likely be subdued until govt spending picks up and the FED drops interest rates to the 3s. There are some real world problems to be solved for smaller companies who cannot afford a full time staff on their payroll let alone go through the H1B process. But if you can form an LLC and somehow be sponsored by the LLC you stand a real chance of bringing in $ to make a great start up with the right people and contacts. Good luck I am Srinath Gopinath on Linkedin. I cannot offer jobs but I can certainly give you a perspective of the current job market because I was also once a hiring manager.
Bro woke up and chose to spit reality, harsh fkin reality 😭🙏🏻
whatever you said, it 100% damn true. It's the same issue here in Canada.
But how are those new grad students around me getting jobs? How are all those people graduating in USC, and all top colleges getting jobs? I too want to know how they are getting and how to land a job offer
you should try early stage start-ups not big tech
More than a year without a job. Now, they won't hire me because I have been too long without working.
All the best.. hold up for a few more months!! You will get it
What about the Visa period bro?
He is so damn right. I am facing the same issue in Australia. Somebody needed to say it bluntly.
Experiencing the same. 😢
Abhiram speaking facts. I'm in the weeds of it too after getting laid off a few months back. All we can do is just play the game and apply. Hopefully things ease out after the holidays. I also filter out the rejection emails in my Gmail settings as it doesn't help me to get them.
I am facing the exact same thing. I've applied to more than 1000 jobs since July/Aug, and only got 1-3 interviews and no offer yet. Especially for Data Science roles. I am genuinely tired as well.
