Because you are doing it wrong again mate. REVERSE THE POLARITY LIKE YOU SHOULD BE DOING.

The vertical weld is not good. It was trying to run down. You would have done better by doing downhill with the rod under the puddle.

To all the new welders grind back the galvanized layer. Also wear a respirator, the fumes can be quite toxic. The Texas tig technique on the second side will likely cause a lack of fusion. Never weld over slag and porosity, it will come back to bite you later when it cracks! JMHO but I wouldn't use these techniques for anything other than maybe a trash can.

What a F**king mess. No welder ever tries to stick weld galvanized steel BEFORE grinding all the galvanizing off first. All that white zinc oxide smoke is very harmful when breathed in and also poisons the actual weld leaving it with no strength.

There is nothing sticky tape can't fix

Any "Welder" knows that the Galvanizing needs to be fully removed from the weld area BEFORE trying to weld as the zinc poisons the weld and destroys any weld strength. So, given what you are showing won't work, it is hardly surprising no one talks about it.

Hope you’re wearing a mask while you are welding galvanized.
