Dad and Lad RC
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ก.พ. 2021
Father and son just getting started in the world of RC, and specifically trailing/crawling. Join us as we get to grips with our first 'rides' and follow our attempts to build a cool back garden crawling/trail course, as well as venturing out into the wilds with our 4x4s.
Things have moved on a lot from my Kyosho Turbo Optima back in the late-1980s, and while my teenage son has had various toy-grade RCs from an early age - as well as a spectacular 1/32 Siku tractor - his first proper foray was his Maverick Strada short-track 1/10 truck a few years back. We are heading into crawling via 1/18th scale 4x4s, although we already have eyes on moving up to 1/10th scale down the line...

EAST 2024 Part One
Luke and I headed over to this year's EAST event in June, and we were looking forward to seeing the new venue - Avalanche Adventure - and the new format (a full weekend like SST rather than a single day).
The new location is great, and has plenty of potential for developing in the future. We had a mixed bag of weather - just about everything apart from snow on the Saturday - but the Sunday was glorious and everyone we spoke to have a lot of fun regardless.
Whatever you were into, it was catered for, and it was a truly welcoming and friendly bunch who assembled from all over the UK to get involved.
This part one is an overview of the event, and then we'll have a couple more videos to come focusing on some of our crawling fun and games over the weekend.
We'll see you there again next year!

Scratch-built 1/18th camper trailer - first run
มุมมอง 4133 หลายเดือนก่อน
After Luke's two 1/10th camper trailers and his latest 1/10th flatbed, he turned his attention to our 1/18th crawlers, and made this nifty camper trailer to go behind his FTX Mini X Fury. This was part of his A-Level Product Design class and was used as a bit of a proving ground for some ideas, but it looks the part - just needs some more low-down weight to keep it more stable over rough terrai...
Home-made trailer, part one
มุมมอง 7046 หลายเดือนก่อน
Sorry for the lack of content, but Luke has been busy with his A-Levels, and I have been slammed with work, so sadly, a spot of RCing has been low on our priority list... But Luke has been cracking on in his Product Design with his ideas for a multi-use RC trailer, and as a lead-up to his final piece, he created this 1:10th flatbed trailer, complete with dual axles and working 'suspension'. Thi...
Dad and Lad RC go EAST - again...
มุมมอง 321ปีที่แล้ว
Last weekend, Luke and I returned to Tixover Quarry for the second East Anglia Scale Trail event, and we had a fantastic time. To say this is only the second time these guys have run this event, they are doing a fabulous job, and they are willing and open to listen to ideas, etc, which only bodes well for future events.
FTX Outback Paso - first run
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
When I got my TWS VTR Vitara, it was always our intention to get Luke a short-wheelbase vehicle too - and he's always loved a Jimny, hence the FTX Paso fit the bill perfectly. As you can see, we've already started scaling it up - we removed the stickers, swapped out the rims and tyres for Element 1.55 General Grabbers (with brass added, and wheel weights all round for stability), added some lug...
TWS CTS VTR Vitara all scaled up
มุมมอง 425ปีที่แล้ว
Our little short-wheelbase TWS CTS VTR Vitara JLX has had a bit of a makeover since its original video. The metal rims that builder Darren Nixon had put on looked great and very scale, but the Austar tyres were not that good. I looked at better-quality tyres to fit these rims, but then I got the original TWS tyres on some metal rims and they fit much better with the overlander theme. We have al...
How to... build your own camper trailer
มุมมอง 258ปีที่แล้ว
Luke had hankered for a camper trailer to tow behind his RGT Pioneer, and decided to make his own. He started with a simple £25 eBay mesh trailer, and built it from there. First thing he did was remove the fat plastic rims and tyres, and replaced them with smaller metal rims and tyres, which one, look more realistic, and two, really match well with the rims on his Pioneer. He then fabricated so...
1/10th scale TWS CTR Suzuki Vitara - first run
มุมมอง 534ปีที่แล้ว
We have expanded the Dad and Lad RC 1/10th fleet, with this, a Suzuki Vitara - and very detailed it is, too. It is a TWS CTR kit - made by my talented friend Darren Nixon (although there is a RTR version too) - and this is our first run with it. TWS might not mean a lot to you, but apparently the man behind this new brand is the designer for the MST Jimny and Discovery, so he knows a thing or t...
Llandegla in the snow
มุมมอง 189ปีที่แล้ว
With the snow coming down the last few days, we headed up to Llandegla - where we normally go mountain biking - to take the 1/10ths for a play. We had been wanting to try out the walking trails and woodland up here with the RCs for a bit, and this seemed the perfect opportunity. Alas, disaster struck and Luke's RGT Pioneer motor finally gave up the ghost, so it ended up being a solo run with th...
Parys Mountain - first run of 2023
มุมมอง 154ปีที่แล้ว
Firstly, apologies for the lack of content in the past few months - real-world work has just been hectic and so a spot of RCing sadly was low down on the list of things to do... But, we are back and aiming to be a bit more constant! Thank you for getting us over the 300 subscriber marker - massively appreciated - and I hope you like what we have coming up through 2023. Luke is doing a new Land ...
WPL B14 and Bruder trailer
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
So for this video, Luke took the reins and disappeared off into the garage to film his WPL B14 and his newly completed Bruder trailer conversion. In his infinite teenage wisdom, he decided to shoot in our garage studio - the only issue being this is for our real-world work in scuba diving, and the home of the Scuba Diver TH-cam Channel, so just ignore all the scuba kit in the background! In the...
Dad and Lad RC at EAST (East Anglia Scale Trail)
มุมมอง 8842 ปีที่แล้ว
Today Luke and I made the two-and-a-half hour cross-country drive to Tixover Quarry to take part in the inaugural EAST (East Anglia Scale Trail) event. It was all for a worthy cause, and we packed our fleet of 1/24ths, 1/18ths and 1/10ths, as well as Luke's T-90 tank and his 1/16th WPL. We ended up not even getting the 1/24ths out of the truck as we ran out of time - can we have a weekend next ...
Holyhead Breakwater Park - first visit
มุมมอง 1972 ปีที่แล้ว
So after obtaining a Sendero HD body, I got some 1.9 metal beadlocks and chunky Hyrax clone tyres, with Proline dual-stage foams, and did a swap with my Trailwalker body and 1.55s with General Grabbers. It was a totally different driving experience, and it now means I effectively have two trucks in one - a quick body and rim/tyre swap and I have two rigs. Winner! For its first outing, we headed...
Trailer trial run at Parys Mountain
มุมมอง 2542 ปีที่แล้ว
Luke finally achieved his goal of an overland camping trailer for his 1/10th RGT Pioneer, and I think you'll agree it looks damn good out on the trail. He will be doing a video showcasing what he did to make it, but suffice to say there was a lot of effort and creativity involved, but I think it all paid off. We headed up to our favourite crawling/trailing ground at Parys Mountain in North Wale...
FTX, Panda and WPL on the beach
มุมมอง 2572 ปีที่แล้ว
Sorry for a bit of a wait for a new video, we have been insanely busy with life in general, but we are getting back on track and have lots of ideas brewing... We took our FTX Outback Mini X Fury, Panda Hobby X2T and WPL B14 out for a run through the dunes and over the rocks on our local beach. Interesting how each handles the different terrain... Thanks for watching - and remember to like and s...

You can open em and pop in a bit of oil still, can’t you?
I don't think so
Thank you for sharing a good video with a nice car! 💯👍👍
Thank you
Awesome crawlers and great coverage👍🏾
Thank you! More to come once I find a moment!
nice mods Lad RC. Just needs FPV added :)
Was great to see you again
Likewise mate
Looks like a fun event.
It is a great event.
Nice shot of my pickup camper!
Can't wait to see what you have at SST!
loved it 😎 nice trailer
Thank you - looks good behind the Fury.
The trailer looks nice and towed pretty well. Beauty scenery too!
We are lucky - this old quarry area is only 25 minutes from our house.
Glad to see a video!!!.......the detail and flex in that trailer is nice!!!........great work 👍👍
Happy to see a new video posted! The trailer looks great loaded up.
Tows really well even with my Element on it
Really great work. Thanks
Cheers
Very cool work ❤❤❤
Cheers!
Hello! Good to see you back again, you guys have been away for a while!🙂anyway that is a good looking trailer that adds alot of extra interest to your rigs👌
Thanks - he did a great job with the build.
Great info, exactly what i was looking for......subbed👍👍
Thank you!
as it got a decent speed for trails
Awesome rig pal. Where abouts is that place your at there
Loved your video, and your TWS CTS VTR. Sorry, it's a mouthful. Anyway, I purchased one myself, and let me tell you, I've been building rc cars and trucks for about 25 years and boy was this little bugger a difficult one! But I love it. I had to order the complete metal links because the panhard rod is the weakest link, and it bends out of place when it steers left or right. I believe the metal ones should take care of this issue. Greetings from Texas.
Ha, I believe so - I avoided all that drama by buying it ready-made from a friend who loves building RCs! I have then just tweaked it with new rims, and scale accessories.
you guys deserve more subscribers, those are some excellent ideas, keep up the good work your almost to 500
Thank you! We have been a little busy to create content, but we are going to try and get back on track through the summer.
Brilliant,, helpede make my mind up on what model and scale to buy, definitely the 1/24 scale, it was definitely more controllable with the low speed ability without having to give it bursts of power and the smaller scale means it doesn't need such big obstacles to be fun and challenging. 10/10 for video 🎉
Awesome little truck, where to buy uk?
Superb looking truck with excellent scale-realistic details. We need more different body styles like this one!
Cheers fella. That is part of the reason we went with the FTX Paso and the TWS Vitara as you don’t see many short-wheelbase trucks, especially all scaled up.
Very nice 🇺🇲😎
Thank you!
Very nice event!👍😀
Great footage bud 👍🏼
Cheers fella. I'd have liked to have got more footage of the Defender and trailer set-up, but alas, one of his front driveshafts went, and then he took out some of the central gearing on his Paso. Still managed to cobble together something half-reasonable.
amazing crawling spot
We are lucky it is just 25 minutes from our house.
Awesome RC!!! Cute and very performance RC Truck! Nice Review!
Cheers!
@@dadandladrc319 🐼 You're Welcome
Great run with the Paso,it looks really cool !👍Thank you for sharing and have a great upcoming week guys!
Cheers - it is a great little rig
Paso looks fantastic 👌 looks like it crawls and trails really well, big big like 👍👍😃😃👍👍
It is amazing what it is actually capable of, to be honest.
You made some nice additions to the Vitara to improve the scale realism and performance. It is great to see something slightly different as this TWS product is not commonly seen. I hope manufacturers start to give us some new body styles because Defender, Hilux, Wrangler and Bronco bodies are getting a little bit too common now.
Cheers! Yes, that is part of what attracted me to the TWS - you don’t see short wheelbase much, and definitely not Vitara.
The Vitara looks really nice👍 good run aswell with some nice looking rigs👌
Cheers - really pleased how it has come out
Awesome RC mate
Thank you
Want a how to on that cargo net
I briefly explained in the video, but essentially what I did was fasten several lengths of the 1mm elastic width-ways across the roofrack. I then fastened lengths from front-to-back, and as I 'crossed' one of the other elastic, I did a single knot on to it. I then did this all the way to the other end. I repeated this with a few other lengths, and this then gives you a scale cargo net. As I said, a bit of a faff, but looks far more in-scale than using a 1/10th one.
That is flippen crazy awesome….good job fella.
great video and information
Cheers - he did a cracking job on it.
P r o m o s m
Great little rig and what an awesome place to drive it!
Thanks! Will look great once we have scaled it up with accessories. And Panorama/Trevor Rocks is a good little crawling ground for various size RCs.
Nice crawling, from 10:40 to 12:12 where is that on the mountain? my dad grew up in Amlwch and spent many hours on parys mountain and even he doesn't recognise the area lol anywhere near the windmill?
Ha, yes, not far from the windmill. If you stand on the 'bridge' and look out over the site with the windmill to your left, that path they are initially going down is there. And then we went in through the little tunnel to get to the other side.
@@dadandladrc319 Thank you 🙏 will look for the bridge, maybe see you there one day lol
It is a fab place to crawl. We are there regularly through the year, be great to see more people up there with RCs.
You are very lucky to have such an awesome location for crawling! Nice to see the batteries charged and the trucks back in action!
Good to be back - real world job just got in the way! Parys Mountain really is crawler heaven, so many different route options, and it is perfectly scaled up for 1/10th, 1/18th and 1/24th.
Awesome RC and great off-roading adventure
Thank you, it is a great little rig.
WoW!!! Amazing RC Vitara!!! Is a Beauty!!! Naice Review!
Thank you - it is a little beaut.

We will definitely be back up there with the RCs once the snow is gone, found some quality little spots.

Thank you. Parys really is the ultimate crawler heaven.
