Someone is going to ask, "why didnt you just use a stripping solution to save time and remove the old finish??". Because there is no guarantee that will actually remove all the old finish, or look good. scraping removes only a very fine amount of material, and gives me complete control over how the final product looks. This isnt about saving time or money. This is about the time and labor that goes into producing a traditional hand rubbed oil finish.

If this ever happens again, rinse the grit out in the sink, tub or garden hose. Pull the grips off first, disassemble and rinse the rest.

It makes no sense to put a piece that wide and file it for hrs and hrs..explaine why ?

Same goes for your files. Remember that they only cut on the push stroke. Anytime you drag a file over the work backwards, you are shortening the life of the file. Learning to use a file is one of the most important lessons for any gunsmith. Buy good files. I only buy Grobet files. Keep they in a place they won't bang together and never use your metal files on wood. I've been a working gunsmith for almost 50 years and have found that buying good tools pays off in the long run. There is an old saying that "An amateur will spend time to save money, but a pro will spend money to save time".

Brother, watching you hack saw that was painful. At first I thought you just needed a new hacksaw blade, then I realized you had the blade in your saw frame mounted backwards. Hacksaws cut on the push. Teeth forward.
