A new 1000, 5000, and 10000 Yen Bank note was just release on July 3rd 2024 in Japan. I was able to get some and compare them to the previous Japanese bank notes.

4:52 ¥32,000 is equal to AUD $317, so not a small amount of money. Many Australians do not bother with cash at all as electronic NFC (EMV) machines at the shops are ubiquitous. Consequently, when Australian tourists in Japan are compelled to pay with cash at the smaller shops they will be taken quite aback as this everyday retail practice is reminiscent of 2010 life, or even earlier.
I am currently in the US right now and feels weird to use my card everywhere.
Lovely shrine and garden. Thanks, William!
Thank you. Wish I could have done it better. Was kinda last minute. Hope to have more coming out soon.
So nice and calm!!!
Thank you Ibrahim
Was Uehommachi a safe neighborhood? I'm planning to spend a few nights there as a solo traveler. Thank you.
In general most places in Japan are safe. That being said you always have to be careful when traveling. I worked in that area at a local Primary school for 2 years and the kids were great if that is anything. There are some very affluent areas near by. I walk around there often now and never had a problem.
The new bills are great looking and have interesting, eminent people on them. It's great to see women on money. It's been a real struggle trying to get Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, and i think it may never happen. I still have a ¥2000 note that was issued in commemoration of the last time Japan hosted the G8. The US will never have interesting money...
Maybe one day the US money will have have something new. But our money is used as the symbol of money in media so we have that.
i also heard the ramen vending machiens dont take the new bills
I need to make a short about it lol
Wow, your trip is coming is fast! Hope you have enough snacks for a cutie of taste tests with your brothers
I hope so too!
@@foundinjapan you always find some good ones and some "interesting" ones. Your brothers are good sports about trying them all.
Nice
Thank you
Damn you got me craving it.❤
I just had another before leaving Japan.
This had me cracking me up
Thanks
It's pronounced "nuvoh." How have you gone to an entirely different culture than your own, yet somehow you still don't know this?
Thanks for letting me know. To answer your question I normally just grab things and make a video really quick. I am horrible with spelling and pronunciation in English so words from a different language is going to be rough.
Thanks for posting this video, pretty fun! I'm an indie dev in japan and i'm thinking about heading there next year it was cool to see the experience and what to expect.
That is awesome. I was planning to go this year too. Sadly I will be heading back to the US the day before it will be happening this year. Keep an eye out as I know others will be there. My good friend @alitobitofjapan went last year as well.
When do the old ones expire?
They will not expire just stop being made. In my video th-cam.com/video/6iRuyDi9j4c/w-d-xo.html I talked a little about the life cycle of the money. Basicaly every couple years the bills old bills are destroyed and new ones printed depending on the bill. From now only they will reduce and stop printing the old notes. 20 years ago there was a 2000 yen note for example. It is still usable but mainly only collected and used in Okinawa
Had this yesterday! It’s awesome!
Do you like Chocolate Mint flavored stuff?
Thank You for the video. I wonder how do they look under black light
@@MrX-ot4cv the Japanese government said they Flores. The pictures I saw weee greens and purples.
Super interesting, definitely odd how they used two different fonts for "1" between the new 1000 and 10000 note.
Yeah. Seems it is to help with visually impaired and to keep from being counter fitted.
Perhaps when counting bills quickly, It would help denote the 1000 vs 10000 quicker.
So, apparently, it was for counterfeiting measures.
Yeah good to update
Ha! There is no comparison whatsoever with Australian polymer notes which have been in circulation since 1988. Polymer notes are next to impossible to forge and last longer. 🦘🇦🇺
I like the new 1,000 one a lot. I agree that I don't like the fonts on any of the new ones though, but the great wave on the back is really cool. I wonder what made they change their bank notes...
I think they change them every 20 or 30 years. I have heard counterfeiting is one reason but maybe also just to help get people to change out money so they can know how much is out there.
japan's currency is the loser of all loser. losing money for every currency printed while supporting a country that might want to do harm to them. WAY TO GO, JAPAn. 2 to 1 incoming!
Do you mean ¥ 200 to $1? I hope it doesn’t come to that. The yen remaining week and the Dollar inflating does make things rough
Definitely looks refreshing for the summer months.
It was nice. Saw a new orange and yogurt drink today. Kinda scared to try it on such a hot day
Are these notes waterproof ??
I think they are still made from different types of paper like fibers so I am going to say no.
Which do you prefer? The old or new banknotes?
I liked the old money but really like the look and feel of the new ones. So I am team new.
Loving the new style, the art on the back is absolutely gorgeous.
The new money for sure!
New is best as it incorporates modern concepts, technology and practices. It is just like phones or cars.
I really like the historical content. Talking not only about how it has changed but there was significance of the people who were on the notes. It adds a little understanding of why these people are important.
Thank you as always for watching. I really wanted to show some respect to those that were leaving
Wonderful explanation!
Thank you.
Does this sound like something you would want to try. I have lots more of drinks and sweets at this link of things I have found in Japan. th-cam.com/play/PLw4q4xLV_eCqCTR2XEHyqY_-Xh_zg2ubw.html
Looking forward to the taste test with your brothers
Thank you.
awesome night drive
Thank you.
Wow melon cream. I bet with coffee would be a good combo
yeah would have to be unsweetened though. The pancakes were already very rich
Wooooooooooooooooohhh...Pancakes 🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞 Melon 🍈🍈🍈 lol
I should have done the banana ones too
Thank you for watching this live night drive stream. If you are interesteed in see more content from Japan you can check this drive from the other day th-cam.com/users/liveKo_CidjX-2E?si=vGfMkAeLRLmB-_xr
I've pretty much given up now on livestreaming unless I'm at home using my hikari line. The kind of quality and connection is so absolutely terrible and I can't figure out how to fix that. Unsure if it's because I'm in Onomichi or not, but I'm tired of it so I'm giving up. lol
Yeah I am lucky that Rakuten is very strong in Osaka. There are maps for coverage that you need to look at to make sure you have a good connection. Live streaming and driving can be hit or miss and if you don't have a server set up it just gets dropped and you have no idea. Congrats on the subs too. You are almost at 3K
Never had Black Thunder, but I'd definitely try all of them except the strawberry one. I don't like synthetic strawberry flavor, either.
That is understandable
Oh cool love BT😮
it is so good
Thank you for watching. Which Black Thunder would you choose? Also if you want to support the channel consider hitting subscribe or click this link to watch more content th-cam.com/users/foundinjapan
3 bucks or 2 for 5??
Well 290 yen or 500 for two which is actually $1.82 or $3.15
Love black thunder chocolate!
Right. Always a crowd pleaser. When I got home my kids faces lit up.
Black Thunder is sooooo good. 😊
@@lukehaynes7363 Right Louis!
Hello William, I see subscribers are at 699 right now....let me fix that 😅
Thank you Ibrahim!
One of my favorite things to do in Japan is to visit temples and shrines to take in the silence and beauty.
Me too.
Sorry i missed the live, work is getting weird due to circumstances beyond my control. It's always good to see you, hoping to get back to Kansai soon. Hopefully I'll be able to bring my friend.😊😊 Weekday food suggestions Monday something with a fried egg Tuesday something you would eat with pickled ginger or maybe shichimi for "fire" Wednesday something with broth or fish Thursday something grown on trees Friday some bars have drinks with gold flecks, maybe they could make a non-alcoholic one for you Saturday something that is grown in the dirt, maybe vegetables? Sunday something like sunflower seeds or anything yellow
Thank you. Those are some great ideas.
Hello pilotgrrl1, Amazing!!! It's always time to go to Japan 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I enjoyed the drive, it gave me a chance to see different things you don't see on trains. I love visiting Japan because i don't have to drive. There's really no viable transit in Texas although they've been working with JR Central on a possible bullet train from Dallas to Houston. Not sure it will ever be built, but I'll ride it if it comes.
It would be awesome if that train happened. I remember driving through TX as a kid an there being long stretches of not much.
That was a nice drive. Thanks, William!
Thank you for having a look. Wasn't sure it was going to work but glad it did.
this is SO entertaining! thank you and much love from NC USA
Thanks for joining in. Hope to have more stuff coming soon
Thank you for watching. Let me know do you think you could drive on the left side of the road?
Hey William, thanks for this video! I have a ¥2000 bill somewhere. They were first issued on July 19, 2000, to commemorate the 26th G8 Summit and the millennium. My favorite coin is the ¥5. I like the hole, the color and the fact that it's considered lucky. I usually drop at least one (along with a little more) in the donation box at temples/shrines. I need to come back to Japan after the Expo is over.
Very cool! I hope you can come back.
Great to see none of it has changed.
Actually it has now. I am going to make a short or two about it. There is a new 500 yen and it doesn’t work in everywhere and there are talk is of new bills that won’t work in current machines.
@@foundinjapan wow, that’s going to cause some issues.
thanks William, I didn't know that, even though I will be using both currency's I see myself using the yen bills more because it is easier to use and can fit into the wallet without falling out, again thanks 🙏👍😊🎉🎉❤❤
Thank you for watching. That is a good idea. It is always interesting to see people walking around and shop with 3-5 man yen in their wallets
