    Got my tv fix 😀

  • @adamfirst5717

    Hey guys, I have had this problem for the past 6 months, I have had the TV for the past 8 or so years and it's been great, picture and sound are still good so I was annoyed I would have to replace the TV just because it became unresponsive until I power cycled 5-10 times. Here is a GENUINE fix I did, not just hit the side of the bloody tv till it works... literally 3 steps, you will be unplugging the front control panel so it wont illuminate anymore and you wont be able to control the TV with the front buttons but who cares because the remote will work fine. Hope it helps someone. imgur.com/a/rIrEUgB

    I did find the answer to this problem also to work... I took the cover off of the TV and then unplugged the wires that feed to only the front touch pad control board... Leaving the wires still connected that go to the IR sensor and can now use the TV with full functions using only the remote...

    What I'm about to say is very serious. Just slap the back of the tv kind hard a couple of times. It's just a bug in your TV. When you slap the tv the wiring and motherboard. It going get trick it to unfreeze the TV function. Hit behind all the light up buttons and in front of the light up buttons.

      @@Tburb21 happy it work for you too. Every since I slept my TV. It been working good for 6 months now. What happens is we turn off are TV too fast. And it starts malfunctioning all the motherboard wiring on the front of the TV. It triggers all the lights to come on. Is best to turn the TV off from the remote control. When you turn off the TV wait till you hear the sound chick. Don't keep hitting the power button over and over. Also you can unplug your TV cable or antenna. To trick the TV into back Working on normal. Happy it work for you.

      does it still work? I have the lights on front display still all on and cannot change any inputs or volume or even get into menus. I can only momentarily in the first half second get any response... but not enough time to change inputs. I want to attempt the unplugging of the middle plug also. I DID Put a copy of the firmware update on a usb drive and tv did recognize the usb drive put in ... but said firmware up to date. still couldn't use any buttons on front panel or remote to acknowledge it. had to just unplug tv.

    Same problems here. I've unplugged it, unplugged HDMI, in all sorts of combinations. Most of the time it just makes it a hassle. But sometimes, like today, the volume turned itself all the way down before locking up...now you can watch all the tv you want, but can't hear it.

    OK so this has been bugging us for 4 years! It started happening immediately when we bought the TV and we messed with all of the settings and it stopped for a while. When we moved to a new home, it started again, much to our dismay. Not only this, but apps started turning on and off, the sound would move up and down, this TV was surely possessed! So, I started googling everything I could to figure this out to no avail. Finally I just sat down and started going through all of the settings (I suppose I could have reset the settings too). I got through all of the normal settings and then remembered that every time this would happen I was turning on a peripheral (which made me think it MUST be the HDMI input) and the first thing to pop up on the screen was "Simplink..." So, I pressed the "Simplink" button on the remote. Now, this is a really cool feature that I didn't even know about. What this does is recognize the HDMI port when you turn on a peripheral device and change the input for you. Cool huh? Well, apparently it just needed to be turned off and turned back on. After doing this I turned everything on and off several times to be sure this fixed it. Guess what, no more possessed TV. So, now I know that if it happens again to just turn the simplink on and off. Or, if you don't care about this feature, just turn it off. I would be interested to learn if others are finding the same fix. Cheers!

    This is a workaround and not a true fix, but it might be acceptable for some and doesn't cost a cent to do. I found that when my LG TV had this exact problem (the controls locking up), it was due to a 1080p signal being sent over HDMI. Somehow, the signal timing and/or handshake that happens over an HDMI connection appears to be overloading the television's circuit board at that resolution. Changing the source signal to 720p instead caused the problem to go away. Granted, I'd prefer the higher resolution, but at least I don't have to run out and get a new television or pay for an expensive repair this way.

    to fix this freeze up. leave on while froze. pull all cables out of back of tv. the hdmi's are what will release it from frozen state. once you pull them while on shut it off or pull the power cord let it sit for a few min. plug back in if it just turns on when you plug it in you need to do this again. try a diferent order of pulling plugs out of the back. I had to do this 5 times to get it to work one time. now if this will not work and you cant get the tv to change inputs. there is one last final solution. make a fist and start punching the power switch section about 10 good hard wacks while the tv is on. watch the screen as you hit thepower switch panel if it starts to show responses from the hits its about to regain control to the switches. start to normally run your fingers over the input button. you want to get to the input screen, you want to choose an hdmi port that you rarely use. shut tv down once you get to your unused hdmi output with a dvd hooked to it let it sit off for a hour or until it is cooled down. turn on and see if it works. I have had 6 total issues with this 55lx6500 one where doing a procedure like this fixed it. ripping the hdmi out of the back while its on helped the most but didn't always work. I just had to wack it a few times as a last ditch effort to get it to respond but it did!

    I have the exact same TV and it has the exact same issue. It started happening immediately after I purchased it, and they installed a free mainboard to no avail, a new IR receiver to no avail, and finally the entire touch screen surround bezel. That seemed to make the problem extremely infrequent for abuot a year (long enough for my warranty to expire). When it did happen I was usually able to wipe the buttons clean with a diaper wipe, and everything would go back to normal. Yesterday I unplugged the VGA monitor from my PC, but left the HDMI cable still plugged in (PC to LG) and the TV has been locked up ever since.

  • @DSPDevilDog
    @DSPDevilDog 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay. I had this exact problem...except mine got even a little crazier. All the lights come on the bottom right corner then EVERYTHING locks out. Also, you may have the volume turn up without pressing any button. Or the menu screen pulls up without any prompt. The worst was when the games screen would activate by itself! So at first I paid some tech company to come over and look at it and they said the motherboard was bad. 400 dollar total cost fix...I did it thinking that it was still cheaper than a new TV. So the guy comes over, still needs my help to lift the TV and place it on a flat surface to get to the back...I watch him unscrew the back panel and simple PLUG IN a new circuit board. 10 minutes tops. SO...you can VERY VERY VERY easily fix this yourself. It has been about 2 years since that fix and the TV is acting up again just last week. So I go online and google..."LG 55lx6500 con board" and this place pops up marcoselectronics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7946 This board is 75 bucks. If you have a phillips head screwdriver you can complete this repair yourself. Feel free to open up the TV first, assuming your warranty is no longer good, and check it out before purchase...but this worked for me and I was having the same issue. Plugged in the new board...screwed everything back together...new TV that works...

      I just posted my fix to this problem. Total cost was 75 bucks...had this same thing happen two years ago and spent 400 dollars to let a "professional" fix it. Well just last week the TV acted up again and this time I was prepared to fix it myself in literally 15 minutes.

  • @tytarr2054
    @tytarr2054 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chris, I am having the exact problem as you. This all started after upgrading my cable system to Xfinity X1 This new system uses a cable box that never turns off (the HDMI is always on) only the TV turns on and off. Have found if I unhook the HDMI before starting the TV it comes on fine. I then hook up the HDMI and watch TV. It continues to work fine until turned on the next time. If I turn on the TV with the HDMI plugged in, it locks up just like your video. Have to unplug the TV and HDMI to reset it. I was told the problem would be the MAIN BOARD. I just replaced the $210 main board, but still having the same issue. Have you ever got your problem solved?? If so, what did you do.

      I am having the same problem and I am also using this COMAST HDCATV DVR box that doesn't shut off. Can you tell me if you've ever found a final solution to the problem? thanks. Thinking of trying to hook DVR up via component jacks, to see if that solves the problem....

    • @ChrisWheatley97
      @ChrisWheatley97 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem hasn't completely been eliminated but it's very very infrequent now. All of my inputs now go through a Denon receiver. I run a Roku, Ceton Tuner and Chromecast. I have found that when switching the input to Roku, if I 'wake up' the Roku from it's screensaver too quickly after switching inputs, the tv will lock. So I've just been allowing the input to change and the tv to fully detect the signal before using each input. Truly one of the oddest issues I have ever seen and it totally turned me off from LG's tvs for my future purchases.

    • @HARDROCKBASS1
      @HARDROCKBASS1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Wheatley Thanks Chris. I will be sure to point this out (that I am not the only one with this problem) when I get a tech in here to fix it. So you never got a fix from LG, then? You are basically eliminating (or significantly reducing the problem) by doing all of your input switching in an outboard device (home theater receiver), correct? I tried moving my HD CATV DVR to component (analog) connectors, but this DID NOT resolve the problem, so in my case anyway, it's not directly related to the HDMI connection from the CATV box.

    • @ChrisWheatley97
      @ChrisWheatley97 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      HARDROCKBASS1 I had problems right out of the gate with this tv. When it was delivered, the screen wasn't functional, something about the 3D driver card. LG's support offered me two choices, send it back for a new one (wait 4 weeks) or have a technician come out to repair it within a week. If I chose the technician repair, they would extend my warranty an additional 2 years. So of course, I chose the repair. Now when this issue started, I called LG and gave them the history and they told me that their service dept's claim of an extended warranty was false and I was basically out of luck. Spent $2,400 on the tv and at the time that it was doing this the most - so frustrating. I know that HDMI cables from big-box stores are expensive, but try replacing a cable for an input that is having the issue, with something good like a monster brand - see if that helps. It's a communication problem, most likely between the tv and the device during the HDCP handshake.

  • @travellingG

    Mine is with the LG repairer now, if ur lucky and ur TV is under 3 years then its still warranty! It's power supply related in the inverter.

  • @JonnyCap
    @JonnyCap 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any update on this? This has been happening with my set more frequently now. If I unplug the HDMI cable it becomes responsive again, and sometimes turning it off, plugging the HDMI back in, then turning it on fixes it...well, until the next time I turn the TV on. Seems to me like the touch panel is broken and is incorrectly thinking a button is being pressed.

  • @ChrisWheatley97
    @ChrisWheatley97 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    At first I had mine going through a surge protector, but the fine people at LG advised that it should be plugged directly into the wall. No change. The issue first started with my Tivo, which I no longer have. Now I'm going directly to an HTPC and it still happens randomly. I could be reaching at this point.. but my entire house is lit with CFL bulbs, which I have read can put noise on electrical circuits and even at times interfere with IR signals. Do either of you have CFLs?

  • @afterburn2600
    @afterburn2600 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Me, too. I hear a beep followed by menus randomly populating on the screen. The unit then stops responding. It happened recently with only my receiver on, though usually happens when I'm on my PS3. I turned off Simplink per internet, to no avail. What occasionally works is switching HDMI inputs on my receiver. Also if you can force the screen to reacquire the HDMI signal, it can bump it out of freeze mode (such as setting up the HDMI connection within PS3 settings menu). Super annoying :(
