      Hi at the time of my application this seemed to be the case; if you are not sure its always worth looking at the entry requirements on the Imperial webpage or emailing the UG admissions team to clarify. But yes at the time I applied I don't think the combined score for BMAT was looked at beyond securing an interview.

    Could you please say something about personal statement?

    • @krishnagadhvi
      @krishnagadhvi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey sure, regarding the personal statement my tips would be to firstly to read the following; www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/apply/selection/personal-statement/ Then I would start reflecting on my own experiences first and try to really think about why I want to study medicine. Think of it as a research phase. Answer questions such as why do I want to do this, what experiences do I have that have informed me, what extracurricular skills do I have that may be relevant to medicine etc. Next steps would be to do some research on NHS values and then to think about those values and to think about your experiences in the context of them. Finally, I would really drill down into any work experience I have and try to reflect on what I have learned. Then it's a case of writing your statement, ensuring its a reflection of you and your goals and then proof read and ask for a teacher to check over. An additional step could be to look at personal statements shared on The Student Room, never copy but it can give you an idea of what works and what doesn't :)hope it helps!

I'd say overall very well supported with the caveat that its on you to make the most of all the different help available. Our personal tutor is definitely very useful. We do have AI (robotic surgical arms/neuralink surgical robot) that performs surgery, especially for surgeries that require high precision such as in urology and gynecology and even in heart surgeries, however these robots are still controlled by the surgeons themselves. Also, the question then to ask would be what percentage of tasks in a physicians role are central to the job? As in, if the AI is excelling at medical diagnosis, we need to ask how much of a physicians job is taken up by medical diagnosis as the AI of today is quite narrow and can only do one specialised task at a time and we know that in any job there are multiple tasks that comprise the entirety of ones work. If AI is excellent at performing one particular task, we have to ask, to what extent is the job (of a physician) defined by this particular task? If its a significant portion, then I guess you can say the future of the career is a bit rocky, if it isn't then of course safer. But other examples could be, AI is great at analysing complex medical data, its great at finding patterns in diagnostic reports and of course the robotic arms are great for performing complex surgeries with high precision, but even knowing all of this we cant make the statement that AI will replace a physicians job because its not just performing surgery or to assess diagnostic tests. Where AI is weak, humans are strong and AI lacks that human approach. It lacks the situational and historical context and understanding that is often needed to assess, cure or prevent diseases. Our current systems are so narrow in scope that when it comes to health we need to have more of a systems mindset to holistically assess the illness and holistically cure or prevent it. We cant look at any injury or illness in isolation. physicians don't just assess a patients physical ailments but also take into consideration their mental wellbeing, their lifestyle, external stressors and a number of other factors that no machine can *yet* do. You mentioned human error for example when it comes to misdiagnosis, that's where AI can help rather than replace as errors and accuracy are where the main differences lie between human and machine. So here AI can be used to augment human work and used for our own good and to assist and support a physician in this case and also for the patients outcome. So yeah of course all just speculation but rather than it taking over I reckon it will play a big part in almost every career and defiantly for when it comes to assisting a physician. So robotics blended with AI blended with analytics and smart imagination I think will transform healthcare.

    • @dawudk1
      @dawudk1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that came out longer than i expected lol but have any thoughts about blockchain technology in healthcare come to mind, some examples where it can be used are health records, supply chains & genomic market (safe and secure genomic data storing and sharing)

    • @krishnagadhvi
      @krishnagadhvi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment and not long at all, I think you’ve definitively given this more thought and to be honest I wasn’t aware that robotics already are being used in some surgeries. I think your point of looking at a patient holistically vs an injury or disease in isolation is a great point and a big plus for humans in medicine. Also yep maybe ai will see it’s biggest benefits where human error is high and rather than replace will complement the tools available to the doctor/physician to make more accurate diagnoses within short time frames. The deployment of robotics and ai and what forms that will take and how much of healthcare it will be involved in will be very interesting to see in the years to come.

    • @krishnagadhvi

      Blockchain is super interesting, I was actually talking with one of my friends about this a week ago and we were talking about nfts etc. I don’t have enough understanding at all tbh to consider block chains implications for healthcare. My assumption and I’m probably wrong was that due to the public nature of the blockchains, health records wouldn’t be stored on there.

    • @dawudk1
      @dawudk1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krishnagadhvi Yes very interesting, I can tell you're quite invested into the thought of all this. Yeah it will defiantly have great benefits, after all, its purpose would be to assist and autonomize work. Still has a long way to go in my opinion, not just the production and process but the implementation.

    • @dawudk1
      @dawudk1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krishnagadhvi Ah yes NFTs, quite a lot of research will of course need to be done, however it depends on whether you are interested in purchasing or creating, with creating, in my opinion you would have to be someone well established from before, (doesn't necaserily mean that you need to be well established in the art industry), since it isn't so much the masterpiece or art itself that causes the high value but the story of the person and creation. Also, if you are purchasing, you would need to keep the same things in mind, the up and coming artists, rare collections, for example I'm sure you've read about beeples story by now, that's one of a kind and the CryptoPunks collection too. But NFTs are a whole other topic anyway aha, there are many different use cases for blockchain technology when it comes to healthcare, while I was researching a few months ago to my surprise there are some UK hospitals using blockchain technology for tracking vaccines and chemotherapy drugs to monitoring fridges storing COVID-19 vaccines(tracking temperature). Here is an article with a podcast about how blockchain technology can boost healthcare: forkast.news/how-hedera-hashgraph-could-improve-data-transparency-for-medicine/

    • @krishnagadhvi
      @krishnagadhvi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey :) I'm a mature student so I hadn't really done much medicine related work experience prior to applying, I had however when I was 15 years old done a one week placement in the Cardio Thoracic Surgery Ward at St Bartholomew Hospital. Honestly, my advice would be to to follow your curiosity and apply for work experience in any sector of medicine that you would enjoy doing. I know everyone fusses about work experience but given the current climate, work experience is not likely to be a priority in your application. I can't really recommend how to get experience but try reaching out to your local GP practice, hospital and care home to see if there's anything you can help with. Don't do this as a checkbox exercise apply to places you'd really like to help in. Finally there is an NHS responders app although I'm not sure if you can take part as under 18. With volunteering its a similar thing, do things you enjoy and go with the flow don't worry too much about not having tons of experience. You can demonstrate your passion for medicine in other ways eg by reading about what the professions involves, books from nurses, watching programmes that explore new surgery techniques etc ..Umm that's all really. Hope this helps :) and best of luck with your application!
