When its in baby form you need to pick it up and rock it when it cries, otherwise it transforms into a monster that will oneshot you. You can tell if its transformed already when that low bellowing is heard with the crying

That was a spike trap. They are on the roofs and when to close will come down and pierce your head XD normally they are easy to spot but when its complete dark its hard to see those
