What of you get 3.5volts on one set of terminals and 0 volts on other terminals?

Where do I go for Champion Generator parts? I have a 9000 watt (max) on gas duel fuel and it has zero output from any outlet on the generator. It runs perfect on gas.

Do you have an address where to buy Champion generator parts? I need some small pieces. For the digital voltage meter, I use a “Kill A Watt” which I bought from my Ace Hardware store. It has a hertz meter in it, so I can make sure that my generator is running fast enough under load. Hello from north east Montana. 10 miles from the Canadian border.

It can have brushes but no AVR. I have a Troybilt gen with brushes, there is an exciter winding in the stator and it hooks to a diode bridge on a circuit board attached to the brush holder. the magnetic field which is a residual field is on the rotor, it induces a small voltage in the exciter coil in the stator which goes to the AVR and changes a.c. of low volts to d.c to the brushes. some voltage from power windings goes to AVR and when that voltage hits a given value say 110 volts, there will be an increase in excitation or if at 130 volts excitation is reduced and voltage goes to 120.

Hi again, when a geny sits too long it loses its "residual magnetic field" It is only when the rotor spins inside the stator that excitation voltage is being made.Having seen the wiring diagram for Champion ( go to website and look for manual then put in model #) The AVR knows that a given low voltage to the rotor will generate 120/240 and compares voltages in exciter and power coils and send the proper amount of d.c. to the brushes. yup I buy a fair amount of goods from the CHAMP Their customer service people are GREAT! If u do work on the engines too, make sure the air filter is properly serviced. I can tell u very honestly, a clean air filter will have the engine run just great, well if the plug is good an carb is in good condition. i've been fixin these 4 a while, biggest issue power comes back on, ppl flip that red switch off an thats IT. ah huh. don't bother to turn off gas or anything and sometimes gas will slowly drain into the block, mucks up the carb too but it is like ya clean out a few carbs u think u cleaned out a lot more.. When I get a call to fix these , I pull the end cover off first and look for broken strings some call them ropes, o.k. but broken strings /ropes can mean overheating of the windings and of course dark spots or changes in color of the insulation.

Hello Nicholas, actually some brushed genz have NO AVR, I have a 5500 watt running TroyBilt. an exciter winding in the stator has 2 wires going to the full-wave rectifier found on the back of the brushes assembly. there was 7.5 volts a.c. going to the rectifier. The Champ gen I wrkt on looks like urs, 7.5 volts across the brushes. The Powerhorse 9000 peak 7250 running has 5 volts going to brushes, I had a 12 amp load on it. whenever u get a gen running well. measure volts to brushes and make a gen log 4 any geny u work on, good for reference.
