A short, but intense story about an artist, painter, teacher, dancer. Who was able to capture the beauty in all the countries visited, a deep soul, certainly someone I would have had the privilege of knowing... I will never forget the face painted on the floor. I hope with my heart that he now continues to take portraits of the Angels. May the earth be light on you... Angelo from Italia
It's 2024 & the HIV/AIDS numbers remain high as ever in a number of states!! Here in Mississippi is one of them! It's very unfortunate with the amount of education & resources that's available, people still allow their simplest $€exual desires to open the misleading window of trust to open & before you know it, you've tested positive for an STI. Some are out here just with reckless behavior & do not care!! There's no such thing as trust because it's overrated. Even being married, you're not safe.
This was so fascinating to watch Curtis what an inspirational man wow he did so much in his incredible short life 🥰😇🙏🩵 xx
What an intelligent soul.
I love the fact that despite what Curtis was going through, he seemed very peaceful as if he’s already made peace with his situation.
Fly high Curtis ❤
Weren’t there meds in 2001? Just curious as to why he passed.
What a beautiful soul
Oh my goodness him describing the symptoms just pains me he had to endure such pain. May his soul rest in peace in Heaven.
Wait did he say blood coming out of his penis 😢nooooo is that a symptom of aids 😮
Unfortunately yes blood is from failed kidneys
2:33 Clumps of blood 🩸 discharging from your penis 😮gross
Why didn't he get the HARRT treatment for his hiv, 2004 they had meds?
What happened to Curtis
Didn’t take his meds properly and his hiv became resistant. I would imagine.
I am humbled and honored that he would share his story
RIP ❤ so talented creative and funny ❤❤❤
What a sweet man it’s so sad😪 my favorite part was the Angels and the business suit rest his soul❤
He was such a beautiful, intelligent, and charismatic soul. Hope u r resting peacefully, Curtis. 🌹
Curtis refused to allow the disfigurement of this awful disease to destroy his spirit and artistry. RIP.
There was potent anti viral drugs at this point in time. He must of had some nasty resistance to meds
I wonder why he was dying of AIDS in 2004. It wasn't 1974, 1984 or 1994. This was filmed in 2004. Almost a decade after better HIV medications were available. Did Curtis refuse to to his meds or was the advanced 1996 HIV meds not effective for his immune system and those meds did more harm than good? Fast forward to 2024, between [1] CCR5Δ32 stem-cell transplants , [2] the FDA eventually approving Excision BioTherapeutics' CRISPR-Cas9 and 2-guide RNA (2gRNA) EBT-101 , [3] American Gene Technologies-Addimmune's T-cell and gene modiied based AGT103-T and [4] Dr. Eric Arts and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry's dead-HIV-based HLP (HIV-virus-like-particles) as either functional or sterilizing HIV cure therapies, as well as [5] the FDA eventually approving Moderna's HIV mRNA broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) vaccines, along with [6] Dr. Chil-Yong Kang and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry's whole-killed-HIV-based SAV001-H vaccine, effective cure(s) and effective vaccines for and against HIV will available, within a decade. There have been recent updates to the potential HIV sterilizing CRISPR-Cas9 based cure in EBT-101, the potential HIV functional T-Cell modified based cure in AGT103-T, Moderna's potential HIV vaccines and the possible use of JAK inhibitors to treat HIV. *Information on the CCR5Δ32 Stem Cell Transplant Procedures* : The CCR5Δ32 stem cell transplant procedure, from donors who naturally have the CCR5Δ32 gene mutation, which naturally HIV, comes with risk. So far [1] the late Timothy Ray Brown, the "Berlin Patient" (who passed away in 2020 from a returning leukemia not caused by AIDS), [2] Adam Castillejo, the "London Patient", [3] an unnamed mixed-race woman from New York, [4] an unnamed 'Geneva Patient" Swiss man, [5] Marc Franke "Dusseldorf Patient" 56 year old German man, and [6] Paul Edmonds, the 68 year old "City of Hope Patient" and the oldest people that had completed the CCR5Δ32 stem cell transplant, are on a growing list of people cured of HIV. Not functionally cured but a sterilization HIV cure. As of June 2023 , the sixth person was cured of HIV after receiving the CCR5Δ32 allogeneic haemopoietic stem-cell transplant. While this procedure is very risky, six individuals with HIV have been documented to have had a sterilizing cure from HIV. Individuals born with the CCR5Δ32 gene mutation are resistant to HIV, but been born with this gene mutation is very rare, and the ones with this CCR5Δ32 gene mutation is of European ancestry. *Information on EBT-101* : Excision BioTherapeutics pending HIV sterilizing therapeutic cure, EBT-101, is one step closer to being FDA approved. In July 2023, the FDA granted approval for Excision BioTherapeutics' CRISPR-based EBT-101 to receive a FastTrack Designation, and the results of the EBT-101 Phase 1/2 human clinical trials was a success. There were no reactions related to participants with HIV taking the EBT-101 infusion and no complement-medicated toxicity. EBT-101 was detected in their blood four weeks after infusion and all three participants, and Excision reported no evidence of the gene vector in tissue associated with male reproductive function. EBT-101was developed and researched by Excision BioTherapeutics, at Dr. Kamel Khalili's lab at Temple University and Jennifer Doudna’s lab at UC Berkeley, is a CRISPR-Cas9 and two guide RNAs (gRNA), with the purpose of delivering the one-time treatment into cells via an adeno-associated virus (AAV), that targets three (3) sites within the HIV genome, and cuts out large portions of the HIV genome and minimizing potential viral escape. EBT-101 currently in Phase 2 (II) human clinical trials. *Information on AGT103-T* : American Gene Technologies-Addimmune's potential HIV functional therapeutic cure, AGT103-T completed their Phase 1 human clinical trial study, accessing the gene modifying AGT103-T as a potential therapeutic for HIV that could offer a functional cure of HIV. The Phase 1 trial demonstrated that AGT103-T was well tolerated in humans . As of December 2023, American Gene Technologies initiated Phase 2 for FDA consideration to continue the clinical development. *Information of HIV mRNA vaccines eOD-GT8 60mer (mRNA-1644) and mRNA HIV Timer (mRNA-1574)* : As of December 2023, Moderna's mRNA broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) HIV therapeutic vaccines, eOD-GT8 60mer (mRNA-1644) and HIV Trimer (mRNA-1574) successfully expanded production of a rare type of antibody-producing immune B cell in nearly all recipients. The human clinical trial study showed that the vaccine was safe when administered twice to each participant eight weeks apart. Some participants reported only mild to moderate side effects that went away in a day or two. The vaccine boosted production of desired B cells in all but one vaccine recipient (35 of 36). *Information on the potential of the JAK 1/2 inhibitor, Ruxolitinib use to treat HIV* : The FDA approved Janus Kinase (JAK) 1/2 inhibitor, Ruxolitinib, developed by Incyte Corporation (Wilmington, DE, USA), which is currently used as a medication to manage and treat myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera, and steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease, may have the ability to inhibit HIV-1 replication and reduce HIV-induced activation, modulate immune activation, which is crucial in controlling viral replication and maintaining immune health in individuals with HIV, impact cell survival, influencing the lifespan of reservoir cells and potentially limiting viral reservoir longevity, mitigating the chronic inflammation and immune dysfunction often observed in individuals with HIV, and may have the ability to infiltrate monocytes/macrophages. Ruxolitinib is the first potent, selective, oral JAK1/JAK2 inhibitor, FDA approved on September 22, 2021. *Information on HLPs (HIV-virus-like-particles) and SAV001-H* : HLPs was developed by an international team or researchers led by Professor Eric Arts at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in London, Ontario, and Dr Jamie Mann, Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol. If or when HLPs are eventually approved by the FDA, HLPs would be effective and affordable. HLPs are dead HIV particles, hosting a comprehensive set of HIV proteins that may increase immune response without injecting a person, which HLP specifically targeting just the immune cells containing latent HIV1 reservoir, purging those cells of their HIV. SAV001-H was developed by Dr. Chil-Yong Kang and his research team, also at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and SumaGen Canada, a member of the Seoul-based Curo Group. SAV001-H Phase 1 clinical trials were completed in August 2013, about 11 years ago. SAV001-H, is the first candidate preventive HIV vaccine using a killed or "dead" version of the HIV-1 virus (inactivated vaccine), and the results from Phase 1 clinical trials in 2013, showed that SAV001-H was well tolerated with no serious adverse events, showed no evidence of vaccine virus replication in participants receiving SAV001 and in human T cells infected in vitro. Furthermore, SAV001 with an adjuvant significantly increased the antibody response to HIV-1 structural proteins. Moreover, antibodies in the plasma from these vaccinations neutralized tier I and tier II of HIV-1 B, A, and D subtypes.
Didn't take his meds properly
Watching and waiting for someone you love to die from a very insidious illness (cancer or AIDS like Curtis), is a very painful experience. It can be so bad that when they die, although you feel grief, you also feel relieved for them and yourself. I have always wondered what it was like for the person that was dying. I feel like this documentary highlighted Curtis’ perspective of it. Waiting to die and using art to soothe his soul whilst he waited. It seems he had full blown AIDS for many years. When it was close to the end, did he feel relief in some way? I guess we can’t ever know, he’s gone.
Determination to finish his art ,he is an inspiration
what an exceptional man . I wish that I would have known you .
Its Strange why he get not good medications ,in the year 2000 was allot new medications to get old with aids . Or is that only the rich get medication.
They didn't disclose what were his primary and secondary causes of death; e.g., end-stage HIV/AIDS disease, treatment failure, or non-AIDS-related organ failure. The medicines are highly effective, but it doesn't save everyone. He could've had already progressed to AIDS before 1996.
@@Jackie-wn5hxbefore 1996 doesn't matter dude... People in 1996 were dying and took it and were saved
What a life he had beautiful, painting on floor was amazing, very intelligent man
Curtis knew how to live life and how to JAM. I sure do like who he was.
I just love Curtis in this doc , I would of loved to sit down and talk with him !
Such a wonderful character, wonderful documentary.
Brother got a hold of a bad wiener rip
A beautiful soul, who absorbed as much beauty as he exuded in his dances and art, Rest In Peace Curtis.
Curtis, what can i say ? what talent and charm. He's sortof child like and adorable In his mannerisms. This disease should have never happened . I believe it was a Disease made up ina al lab in either the USA or Germany . From the government. this is coming from a white 51 year old straight women
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I thought that there was a regime of drugs that kept you from developing full blown aids?? Did that not come into fruition until only recently??
The protease inhibitors and HAART came out in 1996.
Never knew of Curtis before I watched this beautiful soul
This Guy was a character lol 😂wow 😲 I wish I knew someone like even close to a person like him. God bless his soul amen
I know a woman with 10 kids caught hiv from a man she dated he gave it to 7 woman knowing he had it never told them he got 12 years in prision
He needs life in prison for each woman that is disgusting, but thanks for sharing love! Have a great weekend
Thay lady is obviously a Jamaican
It's beautiful Curtis! I cannot draw people very well. I am so glad I got the chance to see what you made on this earth.
R.i.p Curtis you seemed like such an interesting fascinating person you will be missed
Why didn't they give him haart
Totally stupid video.....
Well damn what did he do growing up.... sit there?
You can imagine being diagnosed with HIV virus during 80's!!!! It was purely a death sentence, even your close family distance themselves from you, then here comes the shame cause it was assumed that HIV is purely related to engaging in careless sex especially with sex workers. Then the facts that you know you are dying such a painful death and you only have less than six months to live after being diagnosed with full blown AIDS. At least today, you can go for blood test and save yourself, those days, people were tested after the virus have become AIDS. I remember I was young and I happened to see someone died of AIDS, He was skinny, his hair turned, his skin looked like spoiled bread with fungi at that time we didn't know it was hapes virus.
He reminds me of a male version of the daughter from the Grey Gardens documentary. Even his accent. I wonder what happened to his home. 2004 wasn't that long ago when you think of this epidemic's timeline. I think now we are so used to people living undetectable that it's easy to forget that even after 9/11 people were struggling with and dying of AIDS in the US.
Apparently his brother inherited the home. I bet his mother left it to Curtis knowing he was sick so he would always have a home. I wonder why the drug thearpy wasn't mentioned like if he declined it like so many do or if it wrecked havoc on his body or what? Did it cause the kidney problems? He said he was dying of AIDS so I'm confused. He was beautiful and talented. RIP🙏
I would have loved Curtis he was so amazing!! 🙏😔❤️
I cannot understand why the cameraman zooms in so MUCH into his teeth for so much time. I mean...this is silly to watch.
It is with utmost gratitude that I express my thanks to #DrKanayo Peterson, whose cure for the #14daysnegative has restored me to full health one hundred percent, their service is incredibly 💨 fast, and they have fantastic reviews online.
Was Curtis a drug user during his HIV treatment? It’s a genuine question and not an attack. I think he was a brave and amazingly talented man. RIP
Because people were eating monkeys. I don’t think so It’s the bloody government again God bless u sweet Curtis xx
His artistry is beautiful!!! Thanks to him for allowing his story to be shared. He was beautiful mind
