AVS Tech Talks: Disaster Recovery Options in AVS
Business continuity and disaster recovery are critical strategies for running your business or organization when the primary production environment is offline. When we start looking at strategies to apply BC/DR to Azure VMware Solution workloads, the options can be intimidating. The reality is AVS has a large range of options to implement almost any BC/DR initiative. Today we discuss the range of options for disaster recovery strategies, and how they can meet a range of different SLA's depending on what the requirements are.

AVS How-to: Network Extension Pt 2 (MON)
มุมมอง 2443 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the more advanced features of HCX is Mobility-Optimized Networking (MON). This feature can be very powerful in migrations and hybrid cloud use cases. MON allows us to add some intelligent routing to avoid the "trombone effect," where packets are sent back on-prem before routed back to the cloud to reach a destination. This latency can be detrimental to split applications, and MON allows ...

AVS How-To: Deploy and Configure Arc for Azure VMware Solution
Very Nice Video, i believe you could have included WAN optimization issue which you have talked about in other videos.
That's a good idea, I believe we are pretty close to making a part 2 of this!
superb explanation! You made it really easy and simple to understand.
This is useful, thanks!
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Great topic. Much appreciated Matthew and Scott. AVS as a DR is an extremely effective solution. To mitigate the costs of running "Hot" DR, some companies run "secondary" workloads in AVS and shut them down in the DR event to free up capacity for Tier-1 Apps if needed. It would be a great development if AVS would allow "Hosts on Demand" approach, similar to what was available in AWS (VCDR: VMware Cloud DR), where your VMs are replicated to AWS, and ESXi hosts provisioned only when needed. RTO will be longer, but it is an automated process and much less expensive. Thank you!
Really good feedback, I know MSFT has been looking at supporting something like VCDR (now VMware Live Cyber Recovery.)
Can you please cover vpn part also .. can we build vpn tunnel from NSX-t in avs to onprem
We cover connectivity in more detail on our connectivity video here: th-cam.com/video/TH8-6G0EGQo/w-d-xo.html You can build a VPN tunnel to NSX-t either through ExR or over the public IP edge (more details on that configuration here: th-cam.com/video/M0oOaxqPANM/w-d-xo.html) Generally speaking, most customers that don't have ExR and are using a VPN will build a "Hub" in their landing zone with a VNG that would facilitate a VPN. Then they would have the AVS ExR connected to that same hub to provide connectivity to the SDDC.
@@avs-team you have mentioned HCX over internet , is it site to site vpn tunnel or something else. i am asking specifically about direct vpn tunnel from NSX-T to on-premises environment if that is possible here ?
@scott - We have a strong AVS / VMware on Cloud practice at Softchoice. This segment does a good job to show case the spectrum of options. Good work! 100% agree, LZ, minimum 3-node "Always On/Pilot Light" AVS and 2nd region are excellent core recommendations. Question though.... what are the recommendations from Microsoft regarding quota management? I'd love to get some Microsoft guidance, regarding quota management for AVS, related to recommendations in the context of using AVS as the primary DR target site More specifically.... Submitting quota requests monthly really isn't a great solution. Is there a better way? What guidance is available to make quote requests sticky or automate them? WIth EOL on AV36 and efforts to drive conversion to AV64 (but still with need for an AV36P base cluster?!?!) , MS has been advising customers that AV36 (and AV36P) availability may not be available. Understandably, this is causing concerns for both us, and for our customers? Can MS provide guidance for us to share with our customers AVS DR customers to better help navigate AVS SKU lifecycles changes? Sincerely, Ivo van Selst
Great information. Thank you AVS Team!
Great Information. Thanks a lot Matthew & Will
Much appreciated, great information. Thank you Guys!!
Excellent presentation and explanations. Just one suggestion, when reviewing complex diagrams and slides, please incorporate a Laser pointer to show specific component/section you are explaining. This would increase a quality tremendously. Thank you AVS Team!!
That's a great call out, we will shoot to do that on our next video!
Great Video, but how can I add a new package or update an existing package under the run command. For example I want to update the ZertoAVSModule from 3.5.9 to 3.5.15
This is a great question, I don't know the answer. But I would venture to guess you can open a support ticket to inquire about the upgrade. In some circumstances, you need to do that for things like SRM, which may be required here. For HCX, the UI directly allows you to update without elevated privileges.
Do we need to login in AzureCLI using Azure credentials before running Powershell command with run script
The script should pop up a browser to login to your azure account.
Very helpful and informative. Thank you!!
Thank you, AVS Team for continuing with high-quality educational videos. We see significant amount of interest in AVS from the Clients, concerned with rising Broadcom licensing costs. Your great work helps VARs to be competent in AVS technology.
Thank you, great information!
Thank you very much, Guys. Much appreciated!
Should we keep HCX connector functional after the migration and extension of local network to AVS? What impacts on VMs migrated via L2 extension if we shut down this HCX appliance?
If you have fully cutover all L2E's and you have no further migrations now or in the future, removing HCX could be a good way of cleaning up. The instructions on how to do so is in docs here:docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-HCX/4.8/hcx-user-guide/GUID-28172DB0-93C6-4A7A-B5A9-51C8325B02DC.html Make sure to uninstall the extensions at mentioned in step 7.
Thanks
Thank you for this content, I have a question related to the E/W traffic between the segments attached to the isolated T1. Does this PA NVA help on monitoring and controlling this kind of traffic ?
The Palo Alto in this configuration will not filter that traffic unless you put a NIC in each segment. However, you could create another T1 and create another "Security Zone" with separate segments in it. This would also have a transit segment for the Palo interferface. NSX-T can be used for East West traffic as well.
To what Ryan was saying, there are essentially two ways to deploy a 3rd party NVA. Check out the Microsoft blog in the description to understand the "option 1" and "option 2" and the trade-off's on each.
Awesome video..
Great video!!
Very insightful video, thank you!
Excellent Video! Can you please clarrify me If i would like to extend e.g ) VLAN ID- 100 & IPs to AVS from On premise, Should i need to configure Same VLAN ID -100 on NSX-T as well? or Not required if using HCX.
There are no VLAN ID's needed in NSX-T. HCX will extend the network for you and create a segment in NSX-T for you. Once you have migrated all your VMs, you then will need to schedule to turn off the network on premise and set the network to failover in HCX. It's surprisingly easy once you have HCX setup.
@Zsoldier0 nailed it. You may be extending a VLAN on prem, but what happens behind the scenes when you do network extension is a NSX-t segment is created by HCX for you. Then connects that network to the on-prem VLAN over a IPSEC UDP4500 tunnel across your UPLINK network profile.
It is very informative & helpful. Thx. I am looking forward for more such sessions.
How’d I get here
Excellent information for how to go for Azure Arc for AVS
This is great! Thanks!
Appreciate the video Victor. Very helpful content!
I have to say, Ricky's voice is soothing.
