Severe Weather Riding. Where’s the Limit?
Riding in severe weather can test any biker. Where's the limit? When is it not ok to ride? Here I share my own thoughts and opinions on the matter.

Paignton Bike Nights Return for 2024 (Triumph Daytona 675)
Had ride my bike 7mile on untreated main road that was covered completely in slush, did well stay on,regularly ride in freezing conditions, will be later at minus 2 on my r125.
Strong winds can push you into an oncoming car
-2 if the temps are falling, 4 or more if they are rising from below freezing. Rain is a pain, but the wind is a deal breaker. I won't ride above 20 mph winds.
I stop riding when the gritters come out... and don't ride again until 2 or 3 showers after the gritting. I don't mind the cold temps, or rain. I just don't want that grit-salt getting on my bike.
hey dont know if you will see this but where did you get your rear seat replacement from
Love my D675
Glad she is fixed, hope you had a lovely birthday 🎁
Glad you have it fixed!
Me too mate. She's my main transport at the moment too.
Does this bike have gear indication ? :) great vid
Yes it does. I was quite impressed that it has the gear indicator.
If it was a two stroke it would piss on everything but it's not and it's like riding a light fishing vessel.
The YZF125 is nice and light. Youre right. There's an Aprilia 125 that's 2 stroke and will piss on all other 125's
That bike will not do 70 😅
Hahaha. Book Top Speed is 83. It'll definitely do 70.
They do. I had one for 6 years. I had 83 mph out my yzfr125 it was 2012 model, and I am 17 and a half stone no down hill on straight and no wind I was doing 83 on A610 there unreal bikes for what they are
Those rads are a good replacement, however you may see the coolant in the expansion tank drop after a ride. This is sorted by putting stock radiator cap on (if in good condition). They must have different ratings
Hey thanks for the heads up. She's only done a few short trips so far and seems ok, but I do still have my old rad waiting for me to take it to the tip. I'm going to go and salvage the original rad cap just in case.
Good video, I passed my mod 2 today and have no intention of getting rid of my xsr 125, I love the bike and it’s got me to where I am now, congrats on 1k subscribers btw
Right on! And congratulations on passing your test. There really is something about 125's. Nice to see I'm not the only one keeping my 125. I think I will always have one.
You need to try my 125 ......
I would love to try your 125 and make a video with him/her too.
If that was in Northern Ireland you would have soo many cars tailgaiting you and overtaking you in nationals. But in England it seems the drivers are more respectful. I have a 125 myself but I rarely do 60mph roads due to safety risk of 125's.
Drivers here don't seem too bad in and around villages, like where I was at the start of the video. Out on the national speed limits though, some think it's 'Every man for himself!
2 hours German Autobahn and you know that Tailgating in Ireland is Childrens Playground Level 😅But it has one good thing. After that 2 hours you give a f. before you try Masterclass India. I never had more child driving on my CB125F wich hasn´t even 15 HP than in the Netherlands and England Motorways included with the bike even fully loaded.
What do you think is the best build year to buy the yamaha yzf r125 on marketplace?
That's a tough question for me to answer. I like the look of all YZF R125's. Of course, I particularly like the first gen because I have one. It all comes down to personal preference and cost. For example, I really like a digital speedo and analogue rev counter. These were only available on the first gen, after that, they all went digital. Some of the later ones do look really nice though. I've also heard that the 2008 models, the first year, had some differences to the rest on the gen 1's between 2009-2014.
May I be the first to say congrats on 1k subs, well deserved Pete!
Thanks Mate. It's been an enjoyable journey, and well worth while. Have met some great people too.
The R125 is such a beautiful bike, I really want one for my first bike, but the insurance is 2x of a MT125 I can afford both, but saving HALF of annual insurance is really hard to justify. May just wait till my full license to have a sport bike.
Yes, the R125 is a beautiful bike. I never knew that the YZF and MT were so different on insurance. If it comes down to the insurance, the MT is a really nice bike, and it has the same engine and running gear as the YZF.
@@RokyRode Appreciate the response! I believe it's because of it being a sport as opposed to naked looking at the difference between 800 and 1750 it's WILD lol Heard Nakeds are better to learn on for first time riders so it's likely gonna be the option! Excited to see the service video <3
That is a crazy difference in price. Naked are definitely easier to learn on because they're more upright. I never had a problem with the YZF though because I'm 6'2" and so I still sit quite upright.
@@RokyRode Yea I'm also 6ft3, I am however 400lb (down from 600lb at the start of the year) so I think the ergo may also have an effect on me in that regard
Finally someone on TH-cam talking sense Been a fan of the channel for a long time I enjoy riding my 125cc bikes
Thank you. I appreciate it. What 125 do you have?
I can tighten a chain now! I also have a hammer and a drill, so if you need help maintaining your bike, I'm your man 🤣
🤣 Excellent mate. With the amount of miles you ride, you could probably do with knowing how to adjust a chain 👍
Great video!
Thanks. I really appreciate it. Replacing the rad was both enjoyable and frustrating.
Sat at esso in Torquay watching this only just clocked your riding around into he bay ahaha
Yes, haha. A lot of my videos are filmed in the bay 👍
Roky Road shorts - what a great idea!
I vote for 'Roky Rode Uncut' where you leave the swearing in! :) Good work mate - looking great and I love the care and attention to all the brackets etc too. I half expected the camara to turn round to your face and see Edd China there!
Actually yes. The attention to detail on the brackets is very Ed China. Hey, I'll take that compliment 😊
Yay! Well done mate 👍
Thanks mate. It was a longer road than I thought it would be.
well done mate, love you determination 👍
Thanks mate. It really was a lesson in perseverance for me.
Mate , this radiator is so corroded it is supposed to be replaced 20k miles ago😂
Looked even worse when I got the thing out 🤣. It was destined to blow. When I got this bike back on the road last year, the radiator was first on my list, but never got round to it.
Wait What is that?
Radiator is dead
😮😢😭😭😭😭😭
Glad you know what it is and can fix it without too much head scratching! :)
Yes, there wasn't much needed in the way of diagnostics on this one. I have a battle on my hands now though. She's fighting me on this repair.
Dan and I are looking forward to the trip to Lyme Regis and beyond 😁 Sorry to hear what happened to laren and I’m sure she will be back on the road soon 👍
Me too mate. Laren is fighting me on this repair, just like she did when I first bought her, but I'm sure I will win the war in the end.
I'm still riding, you have R1 Liz touring Norway on her BMW S1000RR in October with snowy mountains.😂 I'll stop in January time. I find it concerning that the average biker age is 54 in UK now. Its only going to get older. Young people need to get on bikes more.
Wow, I didn't realise it was 54. There's always some youngsters on their bikes at Paignton Bike night. It's nice to see.
@@RokyRode yea its only going to get older to the point when ppl wont be able to ride. But hopefully the uk gov will make it cheaper for 18 yr olds. So the industry wont die.
How is the front brake lever pivot bolt? Is it cleaned and greased? As its ofteen overlooked and it has improved my smooth brake feel. For the electrical stuff I just leave it a mechanic to sort it, I know nothing about electrical stuff.
Yes, I try to keep my levers cleaned and greased, but I have found that for some reason it only takes one or two trips in the rain to make my clutch lever start squeaking. It's so annoying that it's a reason on its' own to keep them greased.
@@RokyRode I use copper grease for any silver bolt
with how much kilometers did you buy it
I bought the bike with 8000 Miles on it. About 13000 kilometres
Biking season? it's October the 17th it's 18 degrees and sunny ! no offense but my heart sinks when people say there is a season for biking when did we start saying that ? no I don't ride every day of the year but I do whenever it's dry just get out whenever the weather allows if it's cold wear the appropriate gear get some heated grips
No Offence taken. There are generally a lot more bikes are on the roads during May, June, July, August and September, or thereabouts, and at these times bike nights and bike shows are also back on. Hence, the season. I'm like you, I ride all year round, but from October there's generally a lot less bikes on the road. I used to be a Fair Weather biker, but now I'm out come rain or shine. I draw the line at snow and ice. Have full winter gear now but do need to get some heated grips.
I guess because the UK weather mostly is hostile but I ride till late December. But they wouldnt say that in America lol
Yes, UK weather can certainly be hostile at times. There's always a few weeks in December / January where I have to wait until the afternoon to ride because its freezing or below in the mornings. I'll ride once it gets a couple of degrees above freezing.
@@RokyRode yes below freezing is just plain dangerous
shouldn't you apply Rust Converter (like HAMMERITE KURUST) first before painting rusted bolt/etc?
It depends what you paint them with. You can paint hammerite direct with little preparation.
Hi ! I'm trying to find the size of the spacer, can you tell me please !!!
This is the 1st video i have watched of your content, and m8 let me tell you something this channel is gona blow 💯 perfection narration, perfect footage 💯 loved the milkshake run to 😅 keep at it 👍
Thank you, Welcome to the channel. I'm glad you enjoyed this video. The milkshake run kind of came out of nowhere. Not my creation but it has certainly blown up.
Would you recommend this to a short statured bloke as his first bike, i absolutely love the look of it
Been watching you for a long time now. I started watching before my cbt. I’m now on a fz6. Keep up the good work.👍🏍️
Thank you. I appreciate the comment. Nice to know I've been a part of your biking journey.
1:15 that looked like a rat running across the road
Riding through Torquay . havent been there in a good 4 yrs.
We will definitely do the Jurassic coast ride to Lyme Regis, west bay, Portland bill next year 👍
Looking forward to it mate. Should be a good day out 👍
You definitely helped me out with confidence to start riding and even creating my own youtube channel for bike videos. So i just want to thank you for the awesome content you put out man! 👌
That's awesome. I really appreciate the feedback, and I'm happy I was able to help you. You have a proper nice bike too.
@@RokyRode Thank you sir! 😁
I am that one person, but I know there are many more. You kick started DaysDayOut and nothing makes me happier than you getting involved with the milkshake runs. You are an amazing human being and I have loved all the chats we have had. I sometimes think I take up too much of your time so sorry if that's the case. 😁 There are too few of us motorbike vloggers in Devon so being able to chat to one is a joy!
Thank you for those kind words. I'm always happy to chat when I'm out and about mate. BTW, my Season Finale video was an 80 mile round trip on the 125.
West bay in the summer is a great bike spot past lime reigous
West Bay. I was trying to think of it when I was riding. It wasn't until I was home and editing that Portland Bill came into my head. That's the ride we wanna do in 2025.
Doing my cbt on Monday and getting a 125 in the coming weeks after that, never knew there were these kind of meets in Paignton. I'm only about 40 mins away from there so when they start again i'll try and ride up there. Any idea where the plans for these are made?
Good luck on your CBT. What bike are you planning on getting? Paignton Bike Nights are on May to September every Wednesday at 6pm, except Carnival week. The Milkshake Run is organised by Daysdayout. Message him on TH-cam, they have a group chat: www.youtube.com/@Daysdayout
@@RokyRode brilliant thank you for the info, and thanks i hope it goes well for me. Planning on getting a Yamaha YZF 125 actually, which coincidentally is what led me to your channel in the first place lol
I'm so sorry we couldn't wait. I was about to be lynched if I didn't leave at exactly 7.30pm :-) My video of that night is stacked up behind 2 or 3 others so it will be a little while to come out. I try to be so bubbly and happy, but I admit, it was a sad evening. I also hope May 2025 comes along quickly. I miss it already!
That's ok mate, it was just me chatting and making myself late 🤣. I was going to wait for you to put your video out first but wasn't sure if you had the footage, so I bumped this video up to the front. May 2025 will be worth the wait. Hey, you should do like a Christmas Milkshake Run.
@@RokyRode We already have something really cool in the pipeline for christmas. We will have to have a milkshake run of our own and discuss it :)
Sounds like a good idea.
Fantastic to meet u again for the milkshake run I was on the z650
I like the Z650. May 2025 will be worth the wait.
Wicked video awsome to see another torbay rider
Thank you. If you're in the Bay, I'll probably see you at some point.
