Some actual facts from the history of Haiti and Haitian people
Haitian immigrants eating pets?? Instead of these baseless claims, why don’t we have a look at some actual facts from the history of Haiti and Haitian people 👇
Haiti was a French colony from the 1600s with enslaved Africans working on their plantations.
The French kept the slaves under inhumane conditions and were extremely cruel and abusive to them.
By 1789, the African-born slave population was around 500K, outnumbering the white colonists by large.
Soon, the slaves started a rebellion that turned into a war for independence.
With their victory in 1804, they liberated themselves from the French colonizers and abolished the institution of slavery.
However, the French government refused to recognize Haiti.
They only did so in 1825, but in return, they forced Haiti to pay an incredible amount of reparations annually until 1887 for the losses “caused by” the Haitian people fighting for their freedom. Can you imagine?
The debt created by this obligation significantly contributed to the deep poverty Haiti is in today.
After being exploited by the French, it was the U.S.’s turn. It occupied Haiti between 1915 and 1934, introducing an unpaid forced labor system having Haitians work on their infrastructure projects.
But that’s not all. The U.S. committed the Les Cayes massacre where they shot peacefully protesting Haitians.
During their almost two decades of occupation, the U.S. committed the following human rights abuses against Haitian people: concentration camps, forced labor, torture, racial segregation, among many others.
The people of Haiti have long suffered from political instability, frequent earthquakes and aftermaths of being bled dry by other countries. Today, Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and is in a deep humanitarian, political and security crisis with gang violence forcing people into displacement.

Expat / immigrant reacts to Emily in Paris | Is expat life really like this?

Why the results of the Dutch elections scare me
มุมมอง 2.4K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Elections were held in the Netherlands last week, and voters awarded a total of 37 seats out of 150 to the far-right party (PVV) led by Geert Wilders. They are anti-EU, anti-immigration, they are pretty radically anti-Muslim, and they plan to abolish the Dutch climate law and leave the Paris Agreement on climate change. Normally, most major parties would stay away from forming a coalition with ...

    "... How people in Belgium will try to screw you over..." This is a terribly unfair title for a large group of Belgian people who simply go to work every day and are among the highest taxed incomes in the world to provide for a social system where newcomers can receive socio-economic guidance (Integration trajectory), can follow cheap language courses (NT2 modules), can follow guidance and courses for work (VDAB), can call on all kinds of support organizations (Atlas, etc.), and there is also an extensive educational network, both in day and evening education, for both children and adults (CVO centers, Syntra centers, evening schools (short-long courses))... Shall we compare the possibilities between Belgium and Hungary? If there is a group that is 'screwed', it is probably the Belgians by their various numerous regional and federal governments.

    Critical to hire your own expert to do the pre move in inspection. The cost pays for itself upon moving out as you’re protected by these silly scams. I presented the report to my scum bag landlord and the look on his face was priceless as every bit of damage was clearly noted as preexisting!!! He got nothing from me. Not a penny. Also he had no access to any deposit. Through some bizarre accounting mistake on the part of my bank - the landlord believed he had a deposit on escrow. My bank told them he had a deposit. But no money was taken:)

    For transport, I found what is most expensive are IC trains especially on a per mile basis. If it is an option then public buses in Flanders actually are pretty reliable and for longer distance are great value. Tickets are EUR2.50 which is expensive if you go two stations but cheap if you do for example Leuven to Brussels

    The contracts are not like that. Most contracts are either 1 year or a 3-6-9 contract. You do always have to give 3 months notice. If you terminate a 1 year contract, you will have to pay a penalty of one and a half month. A 3-6-9 contract renews automatically every 3 years. If you terminate that contract within the first three years you will get a penalty of 3 months if it was broken in the first year, 2 in the second year, 1 in the third year (up untill 2 years and 9 months, because then you can give your 3 months notice and it will count for 3 years). When it renews after the first 3 years, there will no longer be any penalties. The only thing that remains is the 3 months notice. This also means you can not be evicted for the next three years, unless under special circumstances. Also the person you are renting from needs to give 6 months notice and needs to either move in to that appartment himself, or family or needs to do renovations (with very strict guidelines). If you have a doctors prescription for a cold medicine or so, you don't have to pay a lot for the medicine.

    Perhaps you can make a video on the difficulties that expats that don't speak Dutch now face when applying for jobs. For each job, even less skilled ones, it us required Dutch (even when in fact it doesn't!). A lot has changed this year as a result of the elections. The life is mych more expensive and there aren't enought affordable appartments/ studios for everyone in Brussels. Also, rights of nationals are not the same for immigrants. Hence the quantity of people ending homeless and jobless without social security coverage. Not even CPAS. You have to be a Belgian citizen to have those rights.Pay attention!

  • @decnijfkris3706
    @decnijfkris3706 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Many times I see the east europeans jealous of Belgians. The wealth we have is a result of generations of Belgians saving up money for a house to give through to their children. It did not come falling from the trees you know. We paid for our generous social system you can take part in. After world war 2 the accounts of all Belgians were set on zero. The operation GUTT skimmed off all assets of the Belgians in one stroke. You have to learn about our history instead of ridiculizing it. East europeans tend to play the smart guys, they present themselves as being more rational. Well now you history proofs just the opposite. I have the impression from all people of eastern europe Ukrainians are the most sain and the most adapted to our society. A good advice do not bite all too much the hand that feeds you. It will kick you in the ass. Anyways you are still very welcome.

  • @decnijfkris3706
    @decnijfkris3706 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have seen coming many east europeans to Belgium and they all have way too high expectations. For us Belgians you are cheap labour, you can do cleaning jobs or you can work in construction. Jobs that we don't want to do. Then east europeans have a socialist mind. They tend to take advantage of all social amenities and in fact do not contribute financially to it. A low earner does not bring tax money to the state on the contrary average Belgians have to pay for them. We don't search houses on Facebook. We go to a real estate agency and pay the price they ask for a relative good and legal service. The trouble you are experiencing is caused by yourself. By law immigrants get exactly the same job and housing opportunities as Belgians. So the discrimination you are talking of is merely caused by your attitude. I see it takes years before east europeans get integrated in our society. Another thing with east europeans is that they totally mismanage their income. How many times I have seen they spend their money on luxury they just can't afford. So for me you are, just as any other stranger welcome in my country on the condition that you learn our languages (multiple as constitutionally set) and you pay taxes. It is not normal that east europeans can skip all labour rules and set up fake companies that pay zero taxes. We Belgians are limited in entrpreneurship due to all kind of regulations and laws. Just follow the rules. Immatriculate your cars in Belgium and pay taxes to our state. Do not flee to your home country in order to get free health care, buy products in Belgium and not in Hungary. If you do that you will integrate, now you are a citizen of no country. I know you very well. It is all up to you. In no way you are a victim of scamming or of any discrimination.

    Thanks Nora for your feedback about your Belgian experience! I’m born and raised in Liege and speak French. I left my country I was 24 yo to live in Egypt. I stayed 12 years and then I lived 5 years in Los Angeles 🇺🇸. Now I live in New Orleans Louisiana in the 🇺🇸 as well. I share your feelings about being an expat. I’ve been well surrounded when I lived in Cairo but felt very lonely during my LA experience. Now living in New Orleans, things are better but culturally we remain always different whatever you do because your roots are different. However, while being patient I found ways to socialize with locals and even date. The key is flexibility and understanding the local codes. I am a person who enjoys and appreciate all different cultures and traditions. I think it’s a lot about the mindset of being an expat to know where you’re from while embracing your new local codes and culture. It’s not always the most easy thing to do but it’s very entertaining in many aspects. I’m happy you like living in Belgium and I know that all you described as struggles, I faced them myself there and even in the US. I’d be glad to discuss this further with you. Btw I am a French teacher, I could help. And no worries, I am not a scammer or trying to find a new date. See you maybe! 😀

    Good video but... I think your realistic cost price's are litlle low.. appart of your appartement's rent everything ells is allot more exepensife 😅 maybe its just me 🤷 Family with 2 kids we pay monthly: 1500€ down payment on our house. 250€ gas and electricity. 150€ phone and internet. 350€ downpayment car. +-200€ gas for car. 50€ water. 200-300€ food. 200€ kindergarden. 100€ toys. 200€ clothes 500€ saving account. Each kid 100€ x2 safing account. 100€ pension saving account. Whats remains is for fun 🙈. I make around 2.6k and my wife 2.5k after taxes. 160€ food cheques. 1 business car incl free gas. Free health insurance for the family. We are 29 and 31 years old. I think the majority of family's in belguim can relate to this monthly living situation 🤷 But then again i might be wrong.
