Jiawood Woodworking
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 มี.ค. 2021
We are a small workshop located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We make handcrafted traditional furniture.
Using traditional methods and techniques, we handcraft wooden tables, cabinets, and sliding doors. We mainly use local wood from reputable suppliers or wood that has been salvaged from around town.
Our designs are influenced by the natural properties of wood. We don’t use any nails or screws, opting instead for conventional joinery.
We see it as our social duty as craftsmen to design and produce furniture that will last for generations.
In this channel we hope to share with our build process. We hope that these videos are helpful to you.

This is the last part of a 3 video series that shows our process for making Traditional Japanese Kumiko screens.
We use only hand-tools and traditional Japanese methods and designs for our screens. The videos have no music and no talking, just relaxing and quiet woodworking.
In this video you can see the process of making the Asanoha kumiko pattern for the screen
Please watch the other two videos to see the rest of the build process.

JIAWOOD - A small display cabinet
มุมมอง 4.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A simple cabinet is a beautiful thing. Setting up the new workshop has been stressful. It can be a display cabinet, a tea cabinet or perhaps an alter. We used the wood left over from old projects. Wood that was rejected because its color wasn't perfect. For this cabinet though the imperfections are the focus. The design is kept simple and clean so the texture and the color of the wood can stand...
Beautiful
Amazing! Could i know what wood you're using for the kumiko pieces?
May I know what kind of camera you use?
Hello, I am wondering if you sell your plans for your gorgeous Kumiko oanels, Thanks, Stuart
Thank you for showing this perfect craftmanship. Can you please also explain how you lay out the marking for the half-lap joints in such a precise manner?
Passionnant, tout s'emboite parfaitement c'est un régal, bravo!
These videos might be the best videos on all of TH-cam. Mesmerizing!
Beautiful!
Where did you find the wooden strips?
Wow. Exceedingly beautiful (and complicated) joinery!! I dare say there won’t be any router jigs in the near future that easily replicate your work.❤😅
The moment when the joint comes together is incredibly satisfying. Amazing work!
Qthis so so absolutely amaz8ng. What skill!
Thank you for such a quality video on traditional craftsmanship.
Those tiny little clamps are so cute that they actually drove a tear into my eyes. Why the water in the joints? Are you wet-bending into shape to relieve some pressure?
I think the water is applied to soak into the end grain of the joints so it swells and closes up the gaps in the joints
Excellent craftsmanship
JUST IN TIME!!!!! , I just came across part 1 and part 2 and was looking in the description for part 3. THANKS and KUDOS
Was there a significance in there being five? Does it have to be an odd number? The work was worthy of your teacher.
This is so well made, it will last a thousand years!! Considering that these were made to be show panels, the frame could have been simple miter joints, but the effort you took to make them using traditional joinery shows your focus on perfection. It is an honor and inspiration to watch your work. I may never come anywhere close to you in my craftsmanship, but you have permanently altered my mindset with this project. Thank you for sharing with us.

My biggest problem after watching this video, is that there are only 2 videos in this channel. Absolutely brilliant work, and amazing video. waiting for more!!!
the second part is uploaded already
Love your videos. Keep them coming
The elegance of simplicity! Beautiful craftsmanship! Pleasure to watch and hope you will make more videos!
ok. where can i get the cool brass bar clamps, the neat square, the super chisel storage box, the nice planes,.....what else did i miss that i want in my personal workshop. lol
Can someone tell me the name of the saw that has been used in the beginning to cut the thick wood block in to half?
Fantastic craftsmanship!
Please note all those who show off their big expensive workshops, simple elegance can be achieved by just a few tools, the most important of which is the skill of the hands using them……..!
Loved the video. Love the hand tool process. Would like to see more of these videos. Thank you
