      Hi, If one is in their 40s and just started investing (have 401k from work). Should they just focus on growth etf since it will be too late for them to see real benefits with dividends?

      Way to go, that portfolio is impressive! I bet you’ll smash your dividends from last year with SCHD going crazy in quarter 2 this year (: DRGO is a nice addition for dividend grower. Not that you need me to tell you that (: You’re waaaaay down the path already.

    • @henrymitchell9717

      I wouldn't say early 40's is 'too late' for anything related to investing. If you have at least 20 years left to put money into the market then I think growth is a nice way to lean. I would still have a balance of the two. I think value/dividends is good to have at any age in any market (with at least a portion of the portfolio). Getting help from a CFA that puts the time in to research companies thoroughly and implement effective risk management strategies even if you are a DIY investor, can bring tremendous benefits. This approach has worked well for me!

    I have shares of 4 of your 7 recommendations. *But:* You're just talking about figures visible in brokerage accounts or pages like stockanalysis, yahoofinance, seekingalpha etc. You don't do a minimal "deep dive", e.g. reading on an etfs homepage. Example *BIZD, expense ratio >11%.* If you would have spent 5 seconds on VanEck's BIZD page then you'd have read the following (quote): *"VanEck BDC Income ETF (BIZD) Acquired Fund Fees and Expenses.* An SEC rule addressing funds of funds (such as BIZD) adopted in 2006, requires a fund of funds to report a total expense ratio in its prospectus fee table that accounts for both the expenses that a fund pays directly out of its assets (direct expenses), and the expense ratios of the underlying funds, including business development companies (BDCs), in which it invests are called acquired fund fees (AFFEs). AFFEs are indirect expenses. This disclosure is designed to provide investors with a better understanding of the actual costs of investing in a fund that invests in other funds. Accordingly, the prospectus for BIZD discloses its AFFEs which are expected to be 10.75%. However, because these fees are not borne directly by the Fund, they will not be reflected in the expense information in BIZD’s financial statements. Information presented in the prospectus table will differ from financial highlights presented in BIZD’s reports to shareholders, when available. The direct net expenses that will be borne by BIZD are anticipated to be 0.42%." Upshot: *Expenses are 0.42%, not 11.x%.*

    I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.

    • @jcurdrayeric243
      @jcurdrayeric243 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Calculating the portfolio size needed is very relevant. - How else do you know how much to contribute?

    • @rogerwheelers4322
      @rogerwheelers4322 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      By calculating how much additional income the contributions produce and estimating how that income rises. the capital value will fluctuate up and down over time so the amount of income new additions give you varies. so capital value being high with a market yielding 2% is no worse for retirement than the same portfolio at a different timepoints where the capital value is half and so the yield is 4%. so long as the yield is sustainable in real terms the capital value being half does not matter. its the same income stream at a different moment of low market sentiment vs high market sentiment.

      Keeping some gold is usually a wise decision. You would be better off keeping away from equities for a bit or, even better, seeking advice from an expert given the current market conditions and everything that is at risk with the current economy.

      You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.

      Could you possibly recommend a CFA you've consulted with?

      My CFA ’ANGELA LYNN SCHILLING’ , a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.

      Thank you for saving me hours of back and forth investigation into the markets. I simply copied and pasted her full name into my browser, and her website came up first in search results. She looks flawless.

    Also, FYI, Canadian Western Bank's Dividend Payout Ratio was 39.88% at the time of recording. This payout ratio is very healthy. It means that the dividends are well covered by Net Income, this is a positive sign for dividend investors. #thinkandretire

    I was looking for your opinion on which of those 5 might e good buys vs. companies whose fundamentals were changing

    • @thinkandretire
      @thinkandretire 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello @lifeunleashed , as everybody's financial situation is different and everybody has different investment objectives and risk tolerance levels, I do not provide any specific buy and sell recommendations. However, as you have asked, I wouldn't mind owing JNJ around $140 for a long-term investment, unless the market conditions & the company fundamentals change. Again, this is not an investment advice, and please do your own research before investing.
