I wonder what would happen if another elephant came from behind ? Are they , park rangers allowed to shoot in the air ?

While exciting, this video seems a bit anti-climatic after reading the experience described in "The Last Rhinos".

This thick north KZN bush and the narrow tracks with no possibility of turning around is not easy when faced by a big bull. I have concerns however that by backing out always as there is no real alternative, encourages vehicle pursuing behaviour by big bulls.I did not see any real aggression by Mabula, or charge mock or real. Is Mabula a trans-located animal? Or locally bred and born? that also makes a difference . So too the history of human interactions. Just do not know what to make of this whole encounter. Final analysis, You did well staff .

THAT was NOT a CHARGE, he simply said get lost.

I don't think Mabula was charging.

My Compliments to the lot of you - Driver for reversing at pace in tricky situation, Guide for retaining his sense of humour, calmness and seat, the Cameraman for holding the bloody camera steady and not losing the subject, and everybody else for not squealing etc. Result from a fabulous sighting - a tremendous sequence for us all to enjoy. After reading this account in 'The Last Rhinos', I searched for this video. My God! This was close!

I have just discovered the wonderful work of Lawrence Anthony and had to find this video. Brilliant
