The World is More Colorful Than You Think
มุมมอง 3023 ปีที่แล้ว
Color is all around us, but do we really see it? Or do we overlook or oversimplify color and miss the depth of beauty around us? We often do this with everyday objects and with people too! Comment below to join the conversation, and please share this with a friend! For a beautiful visual exploration related to these ideas and how we see people, check out the Humanae project by photographer Angé...

    Well that was a total bust! The instructions were simple and it sounded like the perfect solution so there is no way I missed something. All I got was 2 hours of a white ball reflection that at peak dimmed a hair.

      You have to project it a distance away. I use it and me and my grandson watch the whole thing from a comfortable chair on my porch.

    The rhodes piano is just a celesta but amplified with added effects, really. Anyway, I do love the clear bell sound of this instrument and nice playing to utilize it.

    I don't think this is a celesta. I think it's a keyboard keyboard vibraphone

    It sounds like the interlude music on Radio Denmark in the 1970s. They had a fondness for celesta at that time and many of the program editors had a background in jazz.

    I don't think this is a celesta, by definition (in terms of lacking metal rods?), but DAMN is it good-sounding. A keyboard vibraphone is an amazing concept, I adore this. EDIT: I'm an idiot.

    Can we agree that all poisonous apples are red though? But seriously, you make a great point about over simplifying color. We've been taught to view ourselves as belonging to one of only a few starkly contrasting color categories rather than seeing ourselves as belonging to one category of colorful humanity. We need to see color more vividly.

    Does anyone have any recommendations on how to reflect this reality in our everyday language? It's hard to describe someone's skin color accurately in just a few syllables, but I think it's necessary if we're going to start recognizing the wide diversity of color in the world.

    • @JoseRodriguez-tb1js
      @JoseRodriguez-tb1js 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My opinion. This conversation about color should consider emphasis on intent rather than textual interpretation. Why should my color even matter? That is one reason that I do not appreciate forms that request me to fill race. When I first enrolled in college in America, that was 37 years ago. I scratch the multiple choices for race and wrote a note 'HUMAN'. I advocate to reduce race awareness from society and erode race identity.

      Sorry it didn't work for you. Try playing around with the size of the exposed portion of the mirror and the distance from the surface it is projected to. The closer the projection surface, the smaller the exposed mirror surface needs to be.

  • @patrickhowes6589
    @patrickhowes6589 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, so I tried this. I used a round mirror and got a round spot of light on my wall. I tried applying tape to make the mirror smaller, as shown in the video. What I got was a square spot of light. The video shows a small square mirror displaying a round image of the sun. So what am I doing wrong?

    • @roosdarren
      @roosdarren 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. My guess is that the primary problem here is the distance from the mirror to the wall. The more distance you have, the less the shape of the mirror will have a noticeable effect on the image you see. On the other hand, if you need to use a short distance, then making the exposed mirror even smaller (and possibly rounder) will be helpful. It's really a matter of proportion -- the proportion of exposed mirror size to projection distance. A smaller distance needs a smaller exposed mirror. A larger distance can use a larger exposed mirror. I'd say my mirror taped up was about the size of a quarter and was projecting about 80 feet or so. I hope that helps!
