Wrong venue

I was at The Whiskey in Hollywood the day Tim bought that SG at Guitar Center, down the street on Sunset. That was 1994. He told me before their soundcheck that day that he was going to put an extra Flying V neck on it that he had at home. And sho nuff, he did. It became an iconic Clutch guitar. Sadly, it was retired and is now in a Hard Rock Cafe somewhere.

That was my first Clutch show. Beale street hadn't even been realest yet. Killer show & set!! The Organ player was a pleasant surprise, he really filled the set out!

Neil’s vocals, along with his stage presence, were unmatched by any band’s frontman at this particular time. Seeing this band for pennies on the dollar in small clubs during the 90s felt like you were cheating at life.

Now this takes me back quite a few decades. Back then Clutch played mostly small clubs which I still are the best venues to see them. We always caught them at 328 performance hall in Nashville or the exit inn. Many shows in the mid 90's. Hard core crowds and neil amping them up to a mosh

A crowd of about three of us saw them in Tallahassee FL around this time and the rest of the very few people in the bar were just regulars looking annoyed by the noise. The live show took me from fan to super fan. I was amazed by how this small dude could have such a powerful voice. Best lyricist out there too. I’ve seen them many times since and they’re ALWAYS great. One of those bands that sounds even better than the recordings.

I think Rage Against the Machine got influenced musically by Clutch
