30oz? No, that's not less than half a quart. It looks to me like you added about 12 oz, which would be less than half a quart.
tires look good. where did u get the black door cup anti scratch accessories?
Hi Jay, I got all of these accessories from Amazon. The links are in the video description.
@dadsgarage.alwaysopen thank you!
The tires look great. I choose the same, but went up to the 235 size.
fun fact. you don't have to remove the filler neck. the top of it is a venting cap that also comes off and the opening is perfect size for a transmission funnel.
I appreciate the tip! Thanks for sharing!
Where did you get the container you measured the transmission fluid in?
Amazon. I added the links to the dispenser and tools in the description.
Wait, what's the verdict? So is it 4.5 quarts after running it to temp? Why in God's name is dealer telling you twice as much that came out?
Looks like 9 would be the dry fill capacity.
@dadsgarage.alwaysopen ok gotcha, thank you for the video!
Another great video! We are almost on the same PM schedule. Just did mine at 30k miles but with Valvoline ULV. Keep the videos coming!
Good video, but can’t hear over the hens when they’re squawking.😂
10:37 When my Maverick was around 5,000 miles, I decided to check the PTU and rear diff fluid level by adding the appropriate fluid. The PTU is 75w-140 and the rear diff is 80w-90 ....both were able to hold an additional 150ml of fluid. So the PTU had next to no fluid in it. What got me thinking of adding fluid to both was the fact that the factory had all 4 tires overinflated to 44psi ... that's the maximum pressure on the sidewall 😄. Luckily I caught these issues early. The overinflated tires I fixed within the first day or two after I took delivery from the Ford dealer.
This was so easy thank god.
Great video. About to do mine ✌️
would this be similar to a 2023 bronco sport big bend?
Pardon the late response. I’m not familiar with the bronco unfortunately, but I believe they do share similar powertrains.
Thanks for sharing. Helped a lot. Do u also have a vid of the trans fluid change?
I posted the video a couple of days ago.
I forget, when is Dad’s Garage open??? Thanks for the video!
The Transmission fluid change video is finally published.
4:35 😂😂😂 son takes his job very literally and seriously
Industry practice is to change ALL vehicle gear box lubes @ 30K. Transmission-Differential-Transfer case-PTU ect. !
NORMALLY, a shop will change the lube in ALL the gearboxes at the same time. 30,000mi is usually when. Front diff-rear diff-PTU & transmission filter & flush all done @ 30. Does your truck have limited slip? Those require special oil OR use standard gear oil & put in an limited slip additive. !
The reason it’s different on the Mac is that it doesn’t have full time AWD, the rear rarely has much power going to it. Only the tremor package has locking diffs. Because the front diff(ptu in ford terminology) sees 90% of the power and is right next to the exhaust the fluid degrades significantly faster. The front underplate even has an air scoop to pull cool air over the PTU to keep it cool.
Left after he/him😢
It was a joke. If you can take a joke like that, you should not be working on cars.
Where did you get the pump that fits the oil bottle?
Hi There. They sell those at any auto parts store, but I got it this particular one from Amazon. amzn.to/3JwnJ7j
thanks for sharing the vid. have u done the transmission yet?
I did post the Transmission video a couple of days ago
I will definitely change out these fluids at 20K for sure. Since the rear especially doesn't hold much, I think that is on purpose however because I believe it's for economy reasons. Testing has hound that having less fluid aids in less drag in the gears aiding in more efficiency of the axle. That's just my theory anyways.
Less fluid does equal less drag, 100%. It’s also not full time AWD, so the rear rarely sees any power going through it.
I’m gonna make a guess this will be exactly like a 2020+ Escape AWD. Let’s find out
How much did it take to fill it?
A tad more than half the bottle.
@dads is that a Ford Probe I see?? You really do keep your vehicle a long time 🎉
Hi RoverJedi. That is a 2018 Ford Focus and a 1986 Mazda RX7. Thanks for your message
Ah, The RX7 was my first guess but showing pic from video and talking with friends I changed guess...I should have stick with first instinct. Great info by the way. Thanks
They made it easy, I know some ptu like on police ford explorers the fill plug is in a gnarly place.
Most don't even have a real fill plug. All the ones in our fleet just have the sensor port under the heat shield. I just measure and push new fluid in through the drain and quickly plug it now.
I actually drilled and tapped a drain plug on the ptu in my explorer.
now you're going to have a leaky drain plug because you didn't reapply that thread sealant.
Yep. See FordTechMakuloco on the 2020 Escape.
Hello are you still going to do your transmission fluid change as you mentioned doing a video when the ptu and differential were done and that was 4 months ago. I do not see a transmission fluid change video. Thank you.
Yes very soon. I’m currently at 28k miles and almost ready to complete the transmission fluid change. I’ve just been very busy. Thanks for your message!
@dadsgarage.alwaysopen Thanks for the reply. I really liked your videos on the PTU and rear differential and getting ready to do both of those maybe a little early as I have about 12K miles but oil and my time is cheap. Heck I'm on my third oil change when I get it done here at 12K and figured while I have that big pan off its time to tackle the front PTU. Certainly not hard based on your videos. Again thank you.....
@dadsgarage.alwaysopen Did you ever do your maverick trans service yet? I haven't seen a video from you.
@@dadsgarage.alwaysopen I hope you’re doing well and love your videos, please post your Transmission fluid change video I’m getting close to doing mine
Hello couple of us asking when your doing the trans service??
I did my break in PTU fluid change at 6k miles. It already had light metal on drain plug. Ill be doing break in rear diff and transmission fluid change at 10k. Mine has the tow package. I do a little towing. Better to be safe imo. Thanks for the video.
why are you changing it so early?
Hi Victor, If your Mav or any new vehicle is a keeper, It’s best to replace fluids early on as it contains the most wear contaminants. I plan to stick with the 30k changes moving forward.
Your diff will definitely last longer with frequent fluid changes. Much cheaper and less inconvenient than a a diff rebuild or replacement
I’m guessing this works on the Bronco sport as well correct?
I’ve never worked on a Bronco so I can’t answer that. If I ever come across one I will surely post something about it. Good luck and congratulations on owning a Bronco!
@@dadsgarage.alwaysopen I’m talking about the bronco sport not the regular bronco. It’s built on the same frame as the maverick and escape
was this a hybrid
Hi Scooter. My Mav is not the hybrid. It’s the 2.0 turbo FX4 model.
No, the hybrid does not have a PTU or drive shaft
Lol😂

Thanks for the laughs and the vid.
Is the lift on pinch weld? Looks like inside of it on the square metal section. Can't tell. I wanted to lift on that section of metal also, and did. But people on forum said don't lift there do as manual says. What are your thoughts?
Hi Scooter. Thanks for reaching out. I’m using the reinforcement areas where the OEM jack would lift. I’m not aware of any issues.
Good video. I just did this in my '22 AWD Maverick. Waiting for the transmission fluid change when I get to 30k miles. What transmission fluid will you use? Mercon ULV? I see valvoline has a ULV that has more detergents.
Thanks for watching the video. I’m also getting ready to publish the Transmission Service video soon. I’m nearing 30 k also. I decided to go with the OEM Mercon ULV.
Thanks for sharing. You missed a perfect opportunity to check the fluid level with your finger or an allen key prior to draining. If so, what about comparing the quantity you drained out vs what it took to fill it to the proper level. This is a good reminder to other Maverick owners…..
Yes I did miss that opportunity. Thanks for the tip!
how did you decide on 20K?
It’s best to replace fluids early on as it contains the most wear contaminants. I plant to stick with the 30k changes moving forward.
Measure the amount of fluid you removed.
May want to consider a Fluid Film type product on the underside.
Thx for the suggestion
This one is easy also. Thanks for taking this video. I'm going to try it soon at home on the ramps 🙂
Thanks for sharing. Seems easy enough to do at home.
Right on!
