Hope your school stuff goes well, glad to see Tenkaichi still and agreed that of all these series it's been one of the most consistent with no letdowns so far. I think I originally discovered it though this channel so thanks for that :) This is one of my favorite ongoing series right now. Every chapter is fire, always great writing and fight choreography, fantastic artwork, and a cast with plenty of batshit crazy characters like any good fighting manga should have. It's so peak

The reason just about every character went by a different name in the past is that back then getting a new name was basically tantamount to leveling up. Samurai loved giving themselves new names with every little accomplishment they got so you end up with mfs like Tokugawa Ieyasu who have like 10 different ones that are impossible to keep track of. There’s actually something interesting connected to this in the Manga. Hino’s Sponsor is named Hashiba Hideyoshi but in history they’re remembered by the name Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The reason the character doesn’t go by their more popular name is because historically Hideyoshi only got that name after the death of Oda Nobunaga, so obviously in Tenkaichi’s verse he just never got the name.

To answer the question (or the hypothetical question) there is an actual chance that the people here Haven't heard of Battojutsu or Iaijutsu yet as IRL Hayashizaki Jinsuke was the founder of one of the first Battojutsu schools (with the mythology of the man IRL claiming he learned how to do it via Divine Inspiration essentially). By this point IRL the school might not even have been founded (as far as I can find it was founded in the early 1600's). Meaning that for a lot of people there, it's not just someone doing Iaijutsu at a really high level, it's the first person to ever do it doing it in front of a large audience for (seemingly, so far) the first time.
