Silent Hiking in LOS GLACIARES NATIONAL PARK | PATAGONIA | Argentina (El Chaltén & El Calafate)
🎥Don't miss Part I of our Patagonia adventure, the legendary O Circuit in Torres del Paine: th-cam.com/video/3ply2kPKf9A/w-d-xo.html 🏔️ 🌲
Join us as we continue our awe-inspiring journey through Patagonia. In this relaxing silent hiking video, we capture the stunning beauty of Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina. Immerse yourself in the pristine wilderness as we take you on amazing day hikes in El Chaltén. Here you will serene glacier lakes and the legendary jagged peak of Fitz Roy. Then witness the grandeur of the Perito Moreno Glacier near El Calafate. This no-talking video allows you to relax and be inspired by nature's raw, untamed beauty. The original ambient music compliments the breathtaking scenery, making this a truly immersive experience.
❅Itinerary & Highlights❅
🌞🌲🌼 Laguna Torre Hike | 19km 🌞🌲🌼
We left our accommodation in El Chaltén before sunrise and walked about 15 minutes to the trailhead on the edge of town. It's unreal how many amazing hikes are accessible from town. Getting an early start often means you have the trail to yourself. We were treated to a glorious sunrise that highlighted the famous peaks of this area: Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Once reaching the lake, we are treated to gorgeous views of Cerro Torre and Glacier Torre, which feeds the lake a variety of icebergs (and of course fresh water)!
💨🧊🌺 Laguna de los Tres Hike | 22km 💨🧊🌺
This is probably the most famous hike in El Chaltén, but another early start means we have the trail to ourselves. We were treated to a light snow throughout the hike, which added another layer of serenity and beauty. What a magical experience! Laguna de los Tres was frozen solid at this time, and Fitz Roy was mostly obscured by clouds, but this was an absolutely splendid hike nevertheless. On our way out, a trio of crazy Canadians decided to venture out onto the frozen lake. We're sure it was frozen solid, but it's worth noting we never saw them again! If you do this hike when Laguna de los Tres is still frozen and you are jonesing for liquid water, there are other nearby lakes (such as Laguna Sucio) that can be explored,
🦟🏔️⛺️ Loma del Pliegue Tumbado Hike & Mirador Los Cóndores | 21km🦟🏔️⛺️
This is a pleasant hike that offers a different view of the famous El Chaltén peaks. Being a bit less famous than the Laguna Torre & Laguna de los Tres hikes, it is a good option to escape the crowds (though as mentioned above, starting early allows you to beat the crowds, at least on the hike in). The weather turned about halfway through this hike, and our bodies were still feeling a bit beat up after the O Circuit trek in Torres del Paine, so we turned back before the final (obscured) viewpoint.
❅🏔️💨 Perito Moreno Glacier Day Trip | 17km❅🏔️💨
We could not leave Patagonia without a trip to El Calafate to visit this famous glacier, so we found a way to squeeze in a quick day trip. We only had one day in Calafate and we arrived too late to catch a bus or tour, so we pre-arranged private transportation and took a 3-hour self guided tour. If we had more time, we could have done a hike ON the glacier or taken a kayak for a spin, but we were more than happy to take an easy stroll along the boardwalk, which provide a variety of impressive views of the advancing glacier.

    I didn't observe any instances of "racism" or "cruelty" in this video, maybe its frustration on slowing the pack down.

      I guess I should not have cut the footage of the couple in question hiking in their white hoods and robes, or the scene where they flashed their Ku Klux Klan membership cards. 😛 In all seriousness, I guess in the subtitles I failed to adequately explain all that happened. I certainly left out a few details to keep the story moving along. Racist behavior is not always obvious to those committing it, or to those not on the receiving end. Maybe you just had to be there. Your theory provides me another opportunity to sing the praises of our wonderful support team at Quechuandes. We were always able (and encouraged) to move at our own pace, and it was never necessary to wait for anyone, so (fortunately) we did not have to hike together as a group unless we wanted to. And whenever necessary, there were enough members of the support team to hike with folks moving at different paces, as was the case when I was ill and hiked with the muleteer and/or cook. Thank you for taking the time to watch the entire video and follow along with the subtitles, and for taking the time to comment. It helps bring visibility to the story.

    It's amazing how you can show me sides and views of my own country that I never thought were possible. The cinematography is top notch and inspiring as a fellow creative soul. That said, I watched the video with a sense of impending doom because of the subject of racism, which is a problem I have experienced myself too when traveling abroad (particularly in Europe). I just hope the couple wasn't Peruvian, since that's the vibe I got from the initial presentation of the video/thumbnail.

      Thank you for watching and for your thoughtful words! We are sorry that you had to experience racism during your travels. It is such an ugly side of humans. Also, sorry for giving you a feeling of dread while watching the video. To be clear, the couple were not Peruvian (they were from my home country). @@MEOWnderlust Thank you for the clarification. It sounds shallow but it was a huge relief for me. We Peruvians don’t have a lot to offer so we pride our ourselves on our hospitality (and food!). 🙏 Thanks for watching! We’re glad you enjoyed it. Tough question. Our tripod is relatively light, and it seemed to do ok with the wind. We did a few time lapses in moderate wind that were stable. Also, our shots of Grey Glacier and pass were in very strong winds, and those shots turned out stable. In both cases, we kept the tripod low to the ground, and our GH6 kit is somewhat heavy, so that probably helped.

I'm planning to do this trek but wondering which months of the year you recommend it. Which month did you two do this trak? Also how can i find information about the guides and how am i able to book myself in? Do you recommend to find partners or can be done solo through those guides? (Since i don't have anyone in my team yet)

    • @MEOWnderlust
      @MEOWnderlust 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello from the Atacama Desert! 🙏🙏 Thank you so much for the kind words. It means a lot. We did this trek in July. The conditions were ideal. Generally, June to September is the best time to trek in the Andes. Other times of the year, you have a higher chance of rain and snow, and the passes can close when there is heavy snow. We booked this with Quechuandes. We highly recommend them, but they typically require a minimum of 4-5 people to form a group. They might be able to support a solo hiker, but you’d have to check with them. There are probably other agencies that can support a solo traveler, but you may need to give yourself a bit of time in Huaraz to check out the options. You’ll want to spend some time there to acclimatize anyway. We hope you have the chance to do this trek. It is truly amazing, dare we say a life-changing experience!😁

      Thanks! It was an amazing experience. The wind was crazy! We've never felt stronger wind, except for possibly in a typhoon💨. Kako and a few others started crouching to avoid falling over every time a huge gust came in. • @MEOWnderlust
      @MEOWnderlust 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's our favorite hiking companion! Thanks for watching until the end😁 We were pretty lucky with the weather, though it was certainly windy. Overall, it's not too difficult of a trek, but it is pretty long. Unlike other Andes hikes, it is not a high altitude trek, so that eliminates one of the usual challenges. The trails are well-marked, and the infrastructure is quite developed, so it's pretty comfortable. The biggest challenge for us was Gardner Pass because it was still covered in snow and exceptionally windy.
