Sorry, but bollocks. This may be true for many, many people. But it is not true for everyone. A "self-sacrificing relationship" is an absolute thing of beauty I hope every gets to experience. There's just one caveat; your partner must feel the same way. That's not parasitic. It also doesn't make you equals by default. You can sacrifice for your loved one when they need you, but you must be able to fully trust they will do the same when you need them. I do agree you must look after yourself or you're no use to anyone, including yourself.
