Shoreline Studio #97 - Dendritic Prints with Canvas Board & Gel Plate
Dendritic prints are on for today's session. These are prints produced when two wet painted surfaces are placed on each other and then pulled apart. The resulting effects are a little from each surface: in this case, the 8"x10" gel plate and a canvas board of the same size. We switch up the process by also printing the first results on paper and working back and forth: starting lighter and mostly finishing with darker marks to pull the compositions together. This form of printmaking produces unique prints with intriguing textures, marks and colour harmonies.

Shoreline Snippets #48 - Bubble Magic on the Gel Plate
มุมมอง 13014 วันที่ผ่านมา
Even adults love to blow bubbles. We demonstrate some bubble blowing tools from the dollar store, then settle on a straw as the most effective one. High pigmented or saturated colours added to the bubble medium, as well as iridescent paint, create an effective solution for blowing the best bubbles. We test both warm and cool colours on two gel plates, blowing a variety of sizes and types of bub...
Shoreline Studio #96 - Marbling with Green (and wax resist)
มุมมอง 118หลายเดือนก่อน
We start with a warm up marble print just to check if the temperature sensitive carrageenan medium is working in the tray. Switching over, we review a few prints then demonstrate how to clear the medium with newsprint. We start on wax resist imagery that will add interest to the backgrounds. We proceed with a variety of greens for all the tree imagery including cacti. One of the prints has stre...
Shoreline Studio #95 - Sepiatone Treatment of the Cabin at Farwell Canyon
มุมมอง 128หลายเดือนก่อน
Old faded photographs that became yellowed or sepia toned with age is this video's subject. We recreate this historical ambience from a photo of a historical log house. We mix a luminous sepia tone and print the base layer on bristol board paper using the 8"x10" gel plate. We then produce a transfer on the gel plate from a previously drawn charcoal sketch. We add matte medium to the plate, then...
Shoreline Snippets #47 - Rescuing Failed Marbling Pieces with the Gell Plate
มุมมอง 198หลายเดือนก่อน
Gel plate to the rescue. We struggled with some marble prints, as conditions were too cold for the acrylic paint and carrageenan medium to work properly. They became the background for some spontaneous mark making with a circle stencil which was also used as a mask. Layers were not cleared off in between printings and a ghost print helped with resolving a composition. 💰 DONATE:If you would like...

    Sad to say that the log house in Farwell Canyon was swept away in the flash flood from the slide further upstream in the Chilcotin River today Aug 5, 2924. The river is a raging muddy torrent not it's pristine turquoise. I'm so glad we were able to photograph and do artwork about this historic site. We will have another video on this subject soon.

    Wonderful demo… Is there a difference or an advantage in using a color image for transfer instead of black and white with high contrast? You seem to have chosen the original collage with the color palette that you want to use in the transfers? Could you please elaborate? Thank you. 🙏🏻

    • @sybillemuschik
      @sybillemuschik 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much. I think I mentioned that the black toner is some laser printers does not have high saturation so transfers may not work in b/w prints. By increasing the saturation and intensity of the other colours like magenta and cyan the prints will likely be more successful. Toner is very expensive so more reasonable brands may not produce the most saturated colour prints.

    Looking at that fiddly little pasta maker, I wonder if it might be easier to use a good rolling pin and really lean hard on it. Maybe one of those marble rollers that rotate around the handle. Very interesting - I shall find something at the supermarket in a tetrapak and have a go.

    • @sybillemuschik
      @sybillemuschik 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely try it, a rolling pin might work and hand printing requires a lot of muscle but is possible. The pasta maker actually works really well and saves a lot of time. You can adjust the pressure pretty well and doesn't take as long as doing it by hand. Thank you for your comment.

I make them to help simplify some of the artistic processes so everyone with interest in the subject can try them with minimal expense and everyday tools. Art making is meditative and healing. Having a laugh at some of the silly problems that come up is part of the process and we often show them in outtakes. As our channel grows, we will probably have some troll comments. If they teach us something, I will leave them. If they are just a mindless complaint, no point.
