That's a great question! Social constructs exist - humans co-create knowledge to help understand the world and such views are imposed on us/we grow up to understand the world with these. As such, we use these views to view ourselves and others. I don't think there's a straightforward answer to this one. But, the concept of gender as a social construct doesn't contradict the experience of gender dysphoria. It can help us understand how deeply both social and personal identities are (e.g., how others perceive us and how we perceive ourselves). Gender dysphoria is the distress someone feels when their internal sense of gender (which can be understood as part of their identity and how they experience themselves) doesn't align with the gender roles or expectations imposed by society i/e., they don't fit typical man/woman gender roles. The fact that people experience gender dysphoria is a reflection of the tension between societal norms and personal identity, not a contradiction. I would also say that gender exists in the mind too - as it's both about internal and external experience of gender - how one feels and identifies.

Not sure where you got this idea of more than two sexes… that’s not supported by any literature. You misunderstand intersex, let alone the fact that intersex is not a sex. You misunderstand the nature of the surgeries, you think that it is sex reassignment, and your claim about intersex rates is completely wrong. I really think you should do some reading in intersex conditions as you believe they are neither sex or some other sex. Also not sure why you keep saying western society when this is agreed upon by biologists across the planet. Not sure you know what a spectrum is… two is not a spectrum. A spectrum would be infinite sexes

@@king_baallzz Obviously I watched the video, even though it's 100% predictable what she's about to say (and very hard to get through as it sounds like she's on the verge of crying the whole time, very revealing), and that's precisely what my comment is clearly responding to. "World view" is a phrase that applies to you and her, as it's a specific ideological perspective on reality, rather than just assessing reality itself.

And Im sure theres people out there who will disagree with me but sharing the knowledge you have on a public platform is one of the least pretentious thing you could do. Especially because in general university and higher education can be very exclusive and classist, to me its more commendable than only talking abt it with the people who have also completed the same studies as you. Im super interested in sociology & psychology but holding off on formal education until my adhd is medicated, to give me a better shot at succeeding. so youtube is where I can engage with these topics that make my brain tick without the insane price tag. I enjoyed the video and what you had to say 😁 And then I subbed once you started talking about gender, it is so refreshing to see a straight person talk about the deconstruction of the gender binary. @@alxxblu3 I absolutely agree, often universities (or the people at them) can often be quite elitist and classist but thankfully there are also a lot of people there who are also all about open education (i.e., free access to education/information), which is really important. I definitely want to keep sharing my knowledge with the world, so if this is a space I can do so, then I'm excited! I hope one day you can study psychology and sociology but I want to say I'm proud of you for putting your mental health first (something I should have done a long time ago). I did both of those in undergrad but was a lot better at sociology (psych had sooo much maths that I just couldn't deal with) hence why I continued with sociology into postgrad. And yep, I have heaps of student loans, it should be cheaper or scholarships more widely available OR free education for all. Thank you so much, I'm so glad I've created a safe space for you to share that with me (I will do more sociology topics soon I promise but I do enjoy the vlogs too). Absolutely agree and it sucks that other sex/genders like "intersex" aren't shown more in the media. This is exactly why I dislike the binary systems and how people are lumped into "two" categories of male/female and women/men, it really sucks because there's a lot more out there - it's a spectrum more than a binary. Sports is an interesting topic because it's something that will most likely never not have a binary system and perpetuates issues such as someone getting tested more for being "vaguely more masculine-looking". It's frustrating for sure. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

⁠@@asheycakes911you did an excellent job on this video! I have to agree with many points you made. I don't understand the tradwife trend. I personally enjoy making food from scratch occasionally but it is not in my daily routine and it's not so I can play into the gender role of it. It's almost like I wonder if they're doing it only for the views, I genuinely wonder if their lives are actually like this. The paper from scratch was cool but yes very unnecessary. It also didn't look practical? Like the kids were scribbling 😂😂 would have been a little more interesting if random items were brought together to show the children they could create something really cool with items laying around or items outside to glue together into a pattern.

@@KBTV444 Thank you so much! Me neither, I feel like my brain is WAYY too overactive to be someone who is submissive. I do also like making things from scratch like baking and making home cooked meals etc. but definitely wouldn't want to do it every single day and honestly, who has time? Rich people hahah. And I definitely don't think things like that should be gendered either. I agree, they're definitely doing it for the views because more engagement is good for them - i.e., more ways for monetisation, brand deals etc. That's a really good point you make about the paper, I didn't think of it at the time but it would be good to help with their development to do more making things themselves - or even if their mum taught them how to do it. I'm not a parent myself so I don't like to judge how someone parents their children, but I think it's okay to analyse and understand the why behind it (I hope this makes sense - it kinda just ended up being a brain dump in response to your comment).
