Fambul Tik - Leading African Heritage Tours
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 พ.ย. 2019
Fambul Tik in Krio, the local 'lingua franca' of Sierra Leone, translates into Family Tree, in English. We lead African heritage tours to Sierra Leone, and to places, wherever descendants of Sierra Leoneans may be. Founded in 2006 as the Sierra Leone-Gullah Heritage Association to nurture the links between Sierra Leoneans and Gullah-Geechees, and now operating as Fambul Tik our culture and heritage organization has broadened her scope over the recent years. Through this channel, you will learn about why we do what we do and what we have done to date in terms of reconnecting with descendants of Sierra Leone.
A visit by a unique group of African Americans to Africa
Our Gullah-Geechee guests on this tour had a rare opportunity to experience Africa in a deep way on a histroical study tour of history and culture. Thy saw three aspects of slavery, resistance and abolition. The British slave castle at Bunce Island, Sierra Leone is responsible for sending thousands of African captives to South Carolina and Georgia. Some of the most fascinating illustrations that show connections between African Americans and Africans can be found in some of the family ties between Gullah-Geechees and Sierra Leoneans.

He was convinced by historical research presented by historians that there were important connections between Sierra Leoneans and the Gullah-Geechees and he wanted to see that for himself. Momoh was so impressed by the cultural and language simila...

With a family that has preserved a song for over 200 years in our midst, it is only fitting that we go to the place where this same was traced to in Sierra Leone. Imagine a song taken across the waters in the 1700s that was lost for a long time until one day in 1931, a linguist, Dr Lorenzo Dow Turner recorded a Geechee-Gullah woman, Amelia Dawley. sing a song in Mende. From a small village in B...

The Mayor of Freetown gives a big thanks to Fambul Tik for their efforts. She thanked the Gullah Traveling Theater for their performance from the previous night and gave some other remarks. But at this event, we were shown Creole culture. The Creoles of Sierra Leone have some connections to Gullahs and other African Americans who were Black Loyalists (not all Black Loyalists were Gullahs).
