    Awesome set up! I’ve just got a fluval m90 but I’m going to be using it as a freshwater tank,I’m kinda struggling with the sump part at the back,the guy I got it from said he’d upgraded the pump for a 2300LPH pump ,will this be too strong? Also could you recommend a good media set up because the compartments are HUGE lol I only have a bit of bio rings,about 1mtr of filter floss and about 1metre of phosphate floss type media,I really want to set it up right but sadly the tank came with nothing but the stand so I’m starting from scratch and have the urgency of my overstocked 2ft tank occupants needing to move into the M90 asap so any advice is greatly appreciated please bayles

    My lawnmower blenny was eating great, new fish, and then was hiding under rock, could not get it out from under the rock. Feared dead now, not the first fish I am afraid the clownfish attacked. Really like the clownfish, it is doing well. Wondering if just some interesting vertebrae should be added from hereon. Since I am not home all the time I can only assume the clown may have attacked this new fish because it was eating great the night before.

    Do you have to dose? I havnt checked levels yet because I just got my first 4 or 5 corals. I read that you should if they arent softies but my lfs said no. He said he did in have to dose until his corals got really big and he added an sps. do have 2 tiny sps. That i bought for 5 bucks on ebay, but plan on changing them

    • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Karen Nation no dosing at all. Just kept up with weekly water changes. Keeping a tank well maintained is far easier then adding chemicals, as far as hard corals go I haven’t had a great deal of experience keeping them. It’s mainly just being soft and stoney. Some hard corals will benefit from dosing calcium. It would be worth doing some research on the coral you intend to keep and see what would be best to dose if dosing becomes a requirement

    • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kamran Khan Hi there, as far as return pumps go I would recommend an adjustable one. I’m still running the stock pump that came with the aquarium but in my opinion it’s “under powered”. With an adjustable you can control the flow better depending on how much media your using, you don’t want the back of the aquarium filling with water before the pump can return it to the main display and vice versa. I would recommend getting a good quality adjustable and having a play with it until you get it right. In regards to wave makers please see my newer videos as I’m now running a Jebao cross flow and I would highly recommend it. There’s lots of info and links in some of my videos on with wave maker Thanks

    • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      paul deacon luckily mine has never dripped. The best bet would be to empty the chambers remove the tap and then just refit it again using PTFE tape on the threads to create a better water right seal. If it continues to drip then it could be the tap “shut off” itself, I’m which case you may need a new tap. If you’re like me and don’t use the tap then I would just put a blob of water safe silicon down the tap itself to seal it off completely

    • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the support Paul. The tap is just a basic screw fitting unless yours is different to mine? I used a little bit of PTFE tape on the thread as a precaution just to ensure it was a water tight fit. The tap will remain below the aquarium and the there is a smaller section that will sit inside the chamber. I have never used this feature if I’m honest.

      Hello again 😀 We turn the light on blues at around 9am for an hour. Then from 10am until 8pm the main lights are on. Then we have the blues on for an hour from 8pm - 9pm. Then in total darkness throughout the night Hopefully that makes sense? Basically 12hours of light and 12hours of darkness but the first and last hour are on blues. We tend to use full beams. Never really use the dimmer settings If you run a refugium light then just run it the other way round. If the aquarium lights are on then the ref light should be off and vice versa Hope this helps. Please note that this works for me fine and my corals seem to love it, but it may not be great for others. Everyone’s aquariums will be different. • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sammy Prince jr That’s great, glad I could help. If your aquarium is converting the ammonia into nitrate then I wouldn’t worry to much. To eliminate nitrate just do larger water changes or 2 a week instead of 1 I had the same issue in a smaller tank. I just added a water change into the routine mid week and it solved it.. I went from doing a small one once a week to doing 2 larger ones per week. With a marine aquarium you’re really looking after the water. If you can keep the water good then the rest will look after itself.

    • @sammyprincejr7866
      @sammyprincejr7866 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bayles90 never had ammonia or phos or nitrite issues just nitrate ! gonna start doing that on the water changes see if it helps with the nitrates thanks !

    • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sammy Prince jr Yea you won’t have high readings for ammonia or nitrite as it’s being converted into nitrate. The only way to remove nitrate is with water changes as it can’t convert any further. Nitrate is the end product of ammonia after the conversion process. Issues like high nitrate are usually caused from over stocking or not changing enough water Let me know how you get on

    • @bayles9031
      @bayles9031 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine pretty much does the same to be honest. The level stays ok for a day or two and then I loose around a quarter of my last chamber Ive always just assumed it’s general evaporation. I don’t use and auto top off system of any kind. I just keep a small 5L canister in the cupboard and manually top the last chamber up every day to avoid it getting to low and effecting the salinity

    Hi Bayles90, how about the noise that aquarium kit makes, is it quiet or loud?? I wanna buy that aquarium and I will place it just next to my night table. What do you think??

      Hi Jodi As far as aquariums go, they are all going to make noise. But luckily this one is on the quiet side in my opinion The return pump is a very low frequency and the wave maker is pretty much silent (even the original Fluval wave maker that I replaced was very quiet) Usually the loudest thing on any salt water aquarium is the skimmer, the Fluval skimmer that comes with the aquarium is quiet as far as skimmers go I wouldn’t see any issues in having it in a bed room. Plus if one component is louder then you want, it can always be replaced

    Thanks for your videos. I just purchased an M90 2nd as my first try with marine. Appreciate your videos. What happened the first 2 clowns?

    Great info. Is the light on your tank the 1st or 2nd version & how do you find it?

      Mine came with the aquarium and it’s the second version I’m pretty sure you cant purchase the first one any more The first has a magnetic slider and the second has a touch button, that’s the easiest way to tell them apart. You can get them separately from Fluval or some aquatic stores

    Very nice, wish mine turned out like that. Have a one year old aquaone mini reef 120 and i have no corraline algae and no coral. I set it all up perfect at the start with a phosphate reactor running rowaphos and water changes every week checked levels all pretty spot on but all the zoanthids i got shrunk away to nothing, then my two clowns died after a few months. My other fish lived a good 8 months but adventually died and now ive been left with just snails and crabs for last 3 or 4 months and lost interest, i also have thousands of spionid worms appearing every month, i try to remove them but its just impossible
